Guild Wars 2 - Spring 2014 Feature Update (April 15th)

Shame the transfer prices have increased for SBI, or we would help you guys with the transfer fee. That said, we might be able to bring one (or maybe even 2!) gaffer(s) over depending on how the funds work for us in the next days!

I've heard that transfers are free if you have no chars? If that's true that's probably better for me as to be honest I never really got that far on EU and don't mind starting afresh anyway. I haven't really played since launch.

Yes, if you delete all your characters you can transfer for free. Move any items you want to save to your bank and it'll be there when you create a new character. You'll only lose access to anything soulbound.

Lol @ the comic. Well done guys.

Transfers are indeed free if you have no characters.

What's with the obsesion people have with dyes?
Of all the updates, that seems to be that got the most attention.

Don't question my love of dyes.

Also, this is just a feature update. Sometime in the summer we'll get the start of the Living World Season 2, which will be a content update. And that will renew the cycle of new content every two weeks, which is pretty awesome.

Also if you haven't been in the game for a while, there's been a ton of other quality of life updates too.

Dye's are now account-bound.

Okay, I'm back.

That megaserver thing is great news. I'm always disappointed when I log in to play my lousy, low leveled characters but the zones are barren.

because its what i've wanted since day 1, its amazing when you have a lot (a lot) of alts (like really, so many) and dyes are fun to collect!

Haha wow, you guys did a great job with the comic.

As always, feel free to join us on in GAFGuild. We're on Stormbluff Isle (but you can play with us easily from any NA server) and do weekly guild missions and lotteries, scheduled events throughout the world, plenty of dungeon runs, world bosses, jumping puzzles and other shenanigans. We've even got a nice core of people running around WvW to fight for SBI these days. We don't require anything of our members in terms of attendance, activity, skill level, or playstyle (just don't be a jerk).

I hadn't seen it linked yet, but for anyone interested, here's a page of all the actual content stuff the game has seen since launch (to give you an idea of what will be around the corner when the LS season starts back up): https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/

OP forgot to mention a few things.
The mega servers will be available initially only on major cities and lvl1-15 zones to make sure the system works.
You will be able to respec anytime, anywer without the need to visit a trainer.
Trait points are now aplied in fives every five levels. applying them five times to unlock a trait was stupid!
The traits will be hidden around the world to be unlocked through exploration, or they can be bought from a trainer for gold if you are lazy.
Repairing your gear after death will now cost nothing.
Critical damage will now be called "Ferocity", It will no longer be a percentage, and it will be nerfed down 10% since it was OP and everyone and their mother were running Berserker Builds.
Guild Leaders will now be able to see the time since a member last logined, so they can kick ghost members.
Most World Bosses will now be on a fixed timer as the condition of the events of their map will be uncairtain with the megaservers.
In the future Guilds can initiate World boss battles any time they want as guild missions.
Heyyy good points.

Still no official controller support? Also hopefully they'll optimize the game more this update too?
I don't know if they have plans for official controller support but our solution is pretty great.
I have friends who insist on telling me this whole thing does little to bring new players and does nothing but pissing off veterans. I have no way to tell though.

What do you mean by this whole thing, are you talking about the video or is that an unrelated link?

I really think that Anet should've saved the sale for April 15th, when the 1-15 maps are working with Megaserver to provide a huge-population experience.

But maybe the sale will last that long too!

Yay! I like the mega server thing.

Felt like I was playing a large SP game that had a chat box most of the time when I played recently...

*No Friends McGee :(*

PS: Nice comic, OP

That doesn't look like much content when comparing it to paid expansions of say World of Warcraft but it's free so that's good I guess..

Yeah, but we've had feature and content updates nearly every two weeks. This is just one really big one.

I have friends who insist on telling me this whole thing does little to bring new players and does nothing but pissing off veterans. I have no way to tell though.

Everyone in the guild is pretty excited about the changes. Sure, there's some stuff we don't know how it will shake out, but there's really nothing in here that should piss off veterans. Almost all of these changes have come out of fan-feedback.

People are just afraid because it's something new and not what they're used to. We've been through this song and dance before. People freak out, but then once they see it in action and realize that the new feature opens up other possibilities, they get used to it and then start complaining about something else. This is how all MMO's and other constantly updated games work.

It goes up until the 13th, weirdly, but somebody must have a reasoning there..

That's cause it's not a content update. It's an update solely focused on adding or modifying game systems. We've had 29 content updates since launch with features sprinkled within. The way things work now are Content for a few releases, then Features, then back to content and so on. The list of stuff they've added since launch, both permanent and temporary, is large to say the least.

OP forgot to mention a few things.

Yeah, we didn't want to overload it too much. The idea for presenting it as a comic was to keep it light instead of an info-dump, and give room for some snark and guild personality to show through (one GAFer was banned for "proselytizing" in a gaming side thread, for example).

We knew some things needed larger explanations (Megaservers, PVP changes), while some things we could tuck into each other (account-wide dyes are in with wardrobe). We made a big list of all the features and whittled it down to the big ones.

Everything on your list could and rightfully should be in there, but in the interest of keeping it a little less wall-o-text-y we skimmed on the lighter features. I originally had a panel where the human was knocked out by a wall of text criting for 9999 damage though. Maybe I'll stick it back in and toss in the rest of your list. We mostly just wanted to get it up last night.

Account-wide dyes should have been there since Day 1.

Technically, they were there at Day -100 and change. Dyes were account-wide in the BWE, but instead of just clicking unidentified dyes to identify them, you found "Colorful Dye Seeds" that you then had to take to an NPC so they'd grow them. The whole process took 24 hours per dye, unless you bought Magic Plant Food from the gem store.

They cut the cash-shop option out really quick, but obviously there was room somewhere between the two. It's unfortunate it took a year and a half, but it's almost here.

I wonder if they will ever work on an expansion and introduce a new class or two. I'm waiting on and awesome update like that, I also really with mesmer was like it was in GW1 :/.

They seem content to stick with the professions they have now, but they've said nothing is off to table for future Feature Updates. We're more likely to see the existing professions get new weapon choices first, then new weapon types overall (which, because of the way weapons work, would be like adding a new playstyle to them), then probably new classes last.

As for Mesmers, one of their new Grandmaster traits is generating a lot of buzz because it specifically has shades of the GW1-style mesmer; "Power Block: Interrupted skills now have a cooldown of 10s (default is only ~4s)."

Get new friends

. A lot of GAFers (myself included) have been playing since the first Beta Weekend, which is about as 'veteran' as you can get without having played it at Gamescom. The response has generally been positive, so no, not all of the veterans are pissed off.

The video you linked makes the same mistake that plexcide does above; this is a feature update, meant to give players a lots of new mechanics, quality-of-life improvements and balance changes. It has never been advertised as a content patch, that's always been part of the Living Story. Someone who plays as much as Nike knows this, he's just dragging out the old "rawr, no end game" argument for... whatever reason compels people to do that. When he starts talking about "Endgame", "Speed Clear Records", etc. I start to feel a tad queasy. I also disagree with his statement that the feature patch doesn't add any replayability; it absolutely does, just not the kind he wants. For example, traveling all over the game looking for new skins to add to the wardrobe is going to add a shitload of hours to the game for a lot of people.

Death and Taxes is just waaaaaaaay too serious for this game's open-ended playstyle, I would take anything they have to say about Guild Wars 2's design with a bucket of salt. I mean, let's be completely fair and honest; Guild Wars 2 is a pretty laid-back, casual MMO, and there's nothing necessarily wrong with that. But it's never going to be the kind of game those kind of players want, and that's a good thing, because there's already too many of them out there now (and more coming soon). GW2 is different, and this video strikes me as the proverbial square peg bitching that the round hole should just change already.

But maybe the sale will last that long too!

Ends April 13th. Doesn't make much sense to me either, but if people want to pick it up now while the iron is eating up, that's the lowest damn price I've ever seen it.

$25 is fucking ludicrous, honestly. If you have the tiniest interest in this game, the extent to which you'd have to hate everything about it to not find twenty-five dollars' worth of value within is quite extreme. I've (*checks*) played over 3000 hours at this point... oh wow

I always wanted to enter the gaf guild, but unfortunatly i play on Aurora Glade (EU) and now I already have a guild with pals.
Once the mega servers get implimented on the rest of the world, being on a deferent server wont be a problem.
However now I have good friends in Dragon Seasson (current guild) and i obviously dont want to leave them.

Do you people mind if gaf is my secondary guild?

You can be in 5 guilds at once. Post your account.#### here and we'll throw you an invite.

Awesome comic and while I haven't played in months I can confirm that GW2 GAF is officially the best.

Need to hop back in when the patch roles out, sounds great.

May have to jump back in...been too absorbed by d3 and FFXIV....GUARDIANS FOR LYFE
Damn son. I still have a level 60 Ascalonian Catacombs chestguard (an item which no longer exists in-game) from all those early runs with you and Achtius...

It has been a while.....I rememeber running the Catacombs like crazy back then...

Good to see that they cut down all the offensive and stupid crap they decided to put into the game. I will just assume someone at the top got fired or left. One or two more updates like this and I may consider revisiting the game.

I assume you haven't paid any attention to the game in some time and are unaware of the sheer volume of things added since launch? No one got fired or left, these decisions were all made due to a collaborative development initiative (CDI) between the playerbase and the devs. The same team who made the original game all made these decisions. This is just what happens when a development team actually plays their game and listens to what their community wants.

lol at the comic. Love the new account changes . Now I just need to open all those saved pvp chest *.* there are so many awesome skins( wow I didn't know you could also get Luck from salvaging pvp items).

Can someone explain to me what this person is talking about. I've been here since launch and can't think of anything that would fall under the categories stupid and offensive.

I can even meet them halfway, maybe there's something they think is stupid, but offensive? Maybe if somebody has a problem with gay relationships, but that's a fairly recent development and handled exceptionally well.

It's a real head-scratcher, that's for sure.

Free respec and repair is nice.

I need to get back into but every time I login I get a bunch of rewards and no inventory space to put them in. :lol

Is it a pop-up menu? If it's been a while, you may have missed the change to Account-wide Magic Find and it's trying to get you to pick a new stat set for your old Magic Find gear.

If not, Magic Find may be the solution anyways; salvage your greens and blues to get Essences of Luck, which you use to boost your magic find stat.

Sadly, people who left after launch have probably missed a lot of changes in the game.
Fractals and ascended gear for example...

Yep. Guild Wars 2 threads tend to accumulate a lot of "I got to 80 the first week and quit cuz I was bored" comments, and it's obvious they've never bothered to come back since they whole Living Story thing started. Whether the writing was bad or good is irrelevant; it was something new and different every two weeks, and that's anything but boring.

Oh, by the way, we updated the comic last night to include more stuff on your list and slip in both a Final Fantasy reference AND a TLDR jab.

As someone who played the game for about a month or two after release and then stopped playing again until March when the LS began, it definitely is a different game. And even then, I don't think I joined GAF guild until around May which made an even bigger difference from the guild I was in that rarely had more than 3 people online at a time. People may still complain that this game is nothing more than farming for cosmetics but I login and rarely do the same thing week in and week out.

Honestly, the break was good for me because I came into GW2 wanting a direct sequel to GW1 which this game is not.
