Yea, its kinda disappointing that a fight that iconic and memorable is one of the easiest in the game.

On NG+ and ++ though, he summoned actual players for me, that was cool as hell.
Yeah, fighting a real player would probably have made it a lot more challenging.

I purchased all 10 titanite shards from
Stone Trader Chloanne
. When does
her
supply of titanite become unlimited, or of greater quality? I can buy unlimited chunks of titanite from
McDuff
.

Damn,
Looking (Gl)ass Knight
down in first attempt. Too easy :(

It was fun though. I felt the same about
Velstadt
. I got hit a few times when i got greedy but it was at least a fun fight.

Disappointed with both of these bosses (on NG at least, haven't gone that far in NG+ yet). They both have potential to be some of the best bosses in the game for me. They're fun, but too easy.

This is accurate in my experience

He was much harder in the pre-release build. Kicked everyone's ass at Eurogamer Expo. Massive nerf. They even nerfed the corridor that takes you to him, there was a magic based enemy at the end firing from the second you stepped in and the red eye knights were harder.

Now that you said that, this trailer probably shows that missing enemy (I think its
the sub boss from Telsora?
)

So I kept invading this dude in the crypt. A guy with CMW and heavy defense. I was doing 0 fucking damage, but if I got hit twice I was dead. So I finally succumbed to the Dark side and respecced from a pure melee dex build into a resonant weapon katana build and now I'm destroying fucking everyone.

PvP feels a lot less interesting now :/ Two hits = You're dead isn't terribly fun.

Now that it's finally dawned on me that you don't need to be in the belfry for the Bell Keeper stuff, I'm enjoying this covenant this much more.

It's very anecdotal but in my experience, all the really bad PvP players seem to stick to heavy armor/weapons. Not that I'm too hot either but some people seem to have no idea what they're doing.

My main is basically a strength dex build and i only have two attument slots. First week or so Firestorm was just a panic button. A few days later i see a ton of dex builds with one or two really great spells. I'm still not sure how i feel about the pvp. There's already a ton of gimmick builds. Its just how it goes.

someone said that the bosses are hard for some people but easy to others, yet it seems that the most rage inducing boss is the
royal rat

so far, both
rats
have been the most annoying things I have faced, specially the one at
grave of saints
, then the 3 armored bastards at
Lost Bastille
, I know some people have trouble with the second boss at
Iron keep
too

still I think this game dosen't have a "ornstein & smough" caliber boss, imo

Ruin Sentinels
not Orny & Smoughy enough for you?
I think they're the closest to those 2 you can get.

The
Royal Rat bosses
are mainly frustrating because of the smaller mobs that can inflict nasty status ailments, doubly so for
Royal Rat Authority given how poison and toxic can fuck you up fast and the fact you need to deal with them while a giant boss jumps in on you.
Neither are all that bad without those adds though,
I was able to take down the Royal Rat Authority easily when I used Darkstorm to weed out those smaller guys instantly and thus safely focus purely on the boss.

People don't upgrade Vigor nearly as much as they should. They haven't wrapped their head around the meta yet.
It's like MW2 (closes comparison I could come up with), everything is OP.

I fucking love it when I invade someone good for a change and I get my ass kicked

LOVE IT

is there any real benefit to lighting torches? I haven't really used them at all I'm up to like an hour so far.

On about 3-5 areas, totally.
One boss even gets easier when you light these special things next to the boss fog.
Not gonna spoil it but there are useful uses for torches and lighting them.

Beat the first boss. I was expecting a lot worse. Died twice I think. I finally feel like I'm making progress. I have 4 uses on my flask now. SL 32 but I still have shit gear.

I think they relied a bit too much on ideas from the first game when it comes to bosses. I guess the
Ruin Sentinels
fight comes closest to O&S in terms of the tactics you use, it's just a downgraded version since they're all the same.
I still don't know if I should be glad about the almost exclusively straightforward fights in this game or not. On one hand it seemed to make the bosses very much alike, on the other you don't get gimmick fights like Dragon God or Bed of Chaos.

The only definitve negative thing I can say is that I absolutely hate that there are so many encounters and boss fights that just rely on throwing more enemies at you. Especially in NG+. Kinda cheapens the boss fights a bit.

I really don't see why they should fix it.
it's op as fuck but it doesn't affect pvp or anything like that, just don't use it if it feels like cheating.

Yeah, it's not bad at all. If anything they can increase the repair price, but it's balanced due to enemies despawning. A good mechanism in place, in my opinion.

Also, I'm on finally ready to go to NG+ and still OCD I might have missed something lol. What spell achievements can I complete first in NG+?

I don't think you can complete any spell achievements without NG+. Actually, you could finish hex/sorc by using bonfire ascetics on the old ones. So, kind of none, kind of two.

No I know that. Maybe I phrased it wrong, but I meant to ask which ones can I complete in NG+?

yeah, that's why I mention them as hard too, but like TeddyShardik said, it only come to closest, since O&S where two different enemies where slight different tactics applied,
Ruin Sentinels
are the same enemy outnumbering you, indeed they are hard, but I think not at the same level... or epicness, but that is irrelevant :u...

on the other you don't get gimmick fights like Dragon God or Bed of Chaos.
and god, you're right, no bed of chaos-eske boss here, and that's for the better

why do you get invaded in areas where all bosses are defeated? I remember that being the "rule" for the past 2 games. Yet in this one it happens regardless?

Yes, I am not grinding those lol. What about pyromancy? Which covenant is that.

Blood Sentinels for the final Pyromancy.

edit: there was a typo in my last post. Sorc/hex are possible if you don't want to grind. Miracle/Pyro needs NG++ for nongrind.

Probably to prevent decreasing the number of players you can invade. In Dark Souls 1 for example Darkmoon Blades would have a really hard time finding the guilty to invade because Darkwraiths would just kill the boss and then invade safely without the risk of getting invaded themselves.

Okay thanks. Good enough for me. Finally, while on this subject any spells easily missable or hard to get like chaos storm?

50 vigor, third dragon ring, life ring +2, 2400 hp - still get two shot by any nuke. One if you get clipped by a wrath mid-animation. Spells do far too much damage, but melee can't keep up due to sluggish movement and the toning down of backstabs.

I do over 1k damage a hit with uchi 2hr1 but ok, people should just spec vigor until they have 3k hp I guess.

I just did 1.5k to some poor sap in the crypt.

Can low level players see high level player summon signs or is it restricted to those of similar level?

It's heavily restricted by soul memory, and probably soul level too. It was entirely based on SL in previous games but I'm pretty sure Soul Memory is a lot more important now. On NG+ it's a lot less restrictive, you can invade and coop with pretty much anyone as far as I know.

Welp, I finally finished the game. My current impression is that this game is another great addition to the already legendary Souls family. (I need to do more pvp but from what I have seen I doubt It will change my impression)

If I were to describe it, I would say that it is an interesting combination between DeS and DaS with more content and fantastic refinements to some of the mechanics BUT it lacks memorable areas, bosses and NPCs.

The bosses I raged the hardest were
the Ruin Sentinels and the Royal Rat
, fuck those guys.

The most Souls lost were 62k, in one of the most stupid ways ever: Hey I'm really close to my bloodstain, but I want to take down this fatty, that is not even in my way, with only melee because yeah!

Things left to do before moving to NG+:
- Defeat the ancient dragon (Not really interested, but I'll give it a try)
- Reach at least lvl2 Sunbro, something that should be easy but is becoming extremely difficult since I'm having some serious connection issues (Fails 3 out of 4 times to connect and I need to exit the game to place my summon mark again)

Yup, sounds familiar.
"Hmm...I really should take the safe way...naaah I can make that!" *dies horribly*

That especially applies to risky jumps in my case. :(

What the heck are you getting hit by. I've only died to like super slow hexes that I was dumb enough not dodge in 2 hits. And of course counter damage is huge, there HAS to be a punishment for casters.

Casters in general aren't too bad. I think he was more referring to Wrath of the gods. Still can't seem to roll through that.

Think I'll take a break now from Dark Souls II for a while. 2 chars through ng and one through ng+. Both sl 150. All extra bosses down and all gear I wear is on max level and owned plenty of people in duels.

WAIT

are you good? Duel me! INVADE me!

+10 dark uchi, 30 int 30 fth, resonant weapon. Great heal for invasions, resonant flesh when invaded.

I actually feel bad for invading dudes now because I just destroy everyone that isn't using a top tier build.

Ah - that sounds brutal. The uchi is also buffed by the int stat right?

Uh, good luck dodging every projectile with lag involved. Of course you can outplay or whatever, but the consequence of messing up once is wildly disproportionate than if they mess up against you.

The whole point of the post is that there isn't enough of a punishment for casters. It's a variety of factors - the nerf of backstabs, the devaluing of poise, the pointlessness of soul levels for matchmaking purposes letting casters stack vigor - which has led to this. Toss in the ability to buff elemental weapons and you have characters that melee and range better than the pure physical builds. DkS2 pvp is like a guidebook on how unintended consequences can go out of control.
