Mad Men returns to AMC on Sunday, April 13th at 10pm. The final season will be split into two parts with 7 episodes airing this Spring and the last 7 airing in Spring 2015. (Please address all hate mail to Charlie Collier c/o AMC Network.) It's been a long 9-month wait since the last season, so let's strap in and enjoy the beginning of the end.

Set in 1960s New York, the sexy, stylized and provocative AMC drama Mad Men follows the lives of the ruthlessly competitive men and women of Madison Avenue advertising, an ego-driven world where key players make an art of the sell.

AMCís award-winning drama Mad Men made history as the first basic cable series ever to win the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series in four consecutive years. Created by Emmy and Golden Globe-winning executive producer Matthew Weiner and produced by Lionsgate, Mad Men has riveted audiences with the seductive and intriguing world of Sterling Cooper & Partners. This season, the seriesí breakout ensemble cast continues to captivate as they grapple with an uncertain new reality.

Created by Emmy and Golden Globe winning executive producer Matthew Weiner, Mad Men is anchored by an award-winning ensemble cast, including Jon Hamm, January Jones, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, Jessica ParÈ, Rich Sommer, Aaron Staton, Robert Morse, Kiernan Shipka, Jay Ferguson, and Christopher Stanley.

The Premise: The series revolves around the conflicted world of Don Draper (Hamm), the biggest ad man (and ladies man) in the business, and his colleagues at the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce Advertising Agency. As Don makes the plays in the boardroom and the bedroom, he struggles to stay a step ahead of the rapidly changing times and the young executives nipping at his heels. The series also depicts authentically the roles of men and women in this era while exploring the true human nature beneath the guise of 1960s traditional family values.

Mad Men returns for the first seven episodes of its 14 episode, split-season run with a fantastic first episode chock filled with hints about the paths our favorite characters may take.

The premiere is as buoyant as it is deep, light as it is layered. It is many things at once, including absolutely fantastic. Grade: A

you speak so well
I wish AMC didn't split up the final season. Can't wait though, I'm going to be sad to see this show go.

omg....the hype is too high for me. Going into this season I think I like every character which is different from the past. Excited to see where they all end up when it's over :(

Used to be a huge fan of mad men. I will watch it to its conclusion. My interest has declined over the seasons.

It's no HoC, The Wire, or Breaking Bad. It's up there though.

The Psychedelic Journey trailer is A+++.

HoC is the same sentence as those other 3? Nah.

I don't want to derail this thread but HoC shouldn't be named in one go with giants like Breaking Bad and The Wire.

But I'm surely on board with Mad Men being in that top tier category :D

This show is third on my all time list in front of The Sopranos, but behind The Shield and The Wire. I can't wait to see how this concludes. And I actually like the 8 and 8 split.

yay

really looking forward to seeing how they approach starting to tie up these characters' stories (though obviously it's mad men so it won't be a perfect neat bow)

Wasn't a huge fan of the fifth or sixth seasons (not that they were bad, but I adored the first four and extremely enjoyed the seventh, and, to me, those two didn't match them) but I'm very excited to see how they conclude this. I must admit I am annoyed that AMC decided to split the season; I was considering just waiting until sometime next year and watching the episodes week by week so that it leads seemlessly the premier episode of the final season but I don't think it'll be plausable to last so long without being spoiled so, begrudgingly, I'll be watching this. I very much enjoyed the Psychedelic Journey trailer.

EDIT: Sizeable apologies, I seem to have considered the fifth season as two full seasons as opposed to one. Clearly a rewatch is in order.

By its third and fourth seasons, this was definitely the best show on TV but I think its been spinning its wheels a lot for the last year or so. Hopefully being the final season gives this show a shot in the arm.

Are they all going to LA? I thought it was just Ted and Pete?

Yeah it's just supposed to be Pete and Ted moving out there for Sunkist. It was Stan's job originay but he fucked up and revealed his plans to try and parlay that one account into an entire west coast branch, which made others see the greater oppurtunity. So who knows, maybe SC&P West is starting to take shape and beef up under Ted. A bi-coastal Mad Men would be great.

Megan too.

After the hype the split seasons of BB and TWD received, I'm not surprised they went with this strategy.

As a viewer, this is my reaction to splitting seasons.

Hyped for the return but only 7 episodes this year, eh. Sucks.

I'm sorry, my counting is clearly terrible. For some reason I was thinking of the fifth as two parts and this as the eighth (which is quite a terrible oversight given that this is the seventh obviously). I enjoyed the sixth, disliked the fifth (relative to the others).

I'm sure this half-season will be wonderful though

But season 5 was a looot better than season 6 :|

I disagree. S6 was fantastic. Parts of it are Hamm at his very finest. Draper's rivalry with Ted, and how it went from a figment of Ted's imagination, born of insecurity, to the real deal once Draper actually began to feel challenged and eventually threatened by him, was extremely well done.

Granted, Don's addiction and depression fueled deterioration with the backdrop of one of the worst years in the country's history wasn't always the most fun watch, but it was some outstanding storytelling. S3 & S4 are untouchable, but S6 might just be my favorite of the remaing seasons .

So as some of you might know Mad Men is one of my all time favorite shows, but this 7 episode - year long pause - 7 episode bullshit is fucking bullshit.

So I've decided to wait until it it's all over and just binge the last season.

So long brethren, have fun. See you in 2015
god dammit amc
