Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

This doesn't look slow at all. Maybe it was just early footage we saw making it appear "slower" than it actually is.

We have different standards for slow I guess.

Edit: Eh, it actually looks like a decent speed. Must be the footage.

To me it looks both slow and like it's running at a less-than-30 frame rate. And all the 3DS footage we have so far (first trailer and the Sakurai Direct deal) looks that way.

I imagine it's mostly due to lack of polish at that time, since the Wii-U version looks considerably faster and I can't imagine Nintendo or Sakurai letting SSB come out with a sub-30 frame rate.

The Wonderful 101 is my favorite game on Wii U, and my favorite game of 2013 overall, but it's a very niche sort of game. It's completely understandable that most people don't really enjoy it.

I still want Wonder Red in Smash though.

Yeah, despite not really wanting to play any more wonderful 101, I think the character is charming and want him to be in smash bros.

I think I find the shaking of the 3DS version to be obnoxiously bad. Like it shakes for every single little hit and makes it super exaggerated. Should have just put flash effects instead of causing the screen to shake like there is an earthquake. That's probably what makes it seem slow to me.
(and on the flip side, I tend to love controls with a lot of haters like Skyward Sword & Kid Icarus. Both of those played great.)
I know you're not saying they're comparable, but Skyward Sword and Kid Icarus is not really the same.

Skyward Sword gets hated because it uses motion controls.

Kid Icarus uses unoptimal controls that can cramp hands and they included a stand knowing that will be an issue. Still a good game, but it really was not made for the 3DS and it did start off as a Wii game I believe. I wish there was a pointer controls version.

Tbh I don't actually like any game with any form of dual analog controls.

(and on the flip side, I tend to love controls with a lot of haters like Skyward Sword & Kid Icarus. Both of those played great.)

Kid Icarus was wonderful to control. Skyward Sword as well except for swimming and bowling bombs. I hated that so much. In fact, swimming is one reason I haven't played it again. I dislike it that much.

DK dodging hurts my soul right there.

Why?

I'm more of a fan of Directional Dodging. Not even for wavedashing purposes though. I actually used it for recovery purposes and faking out enemies.

Remember Sakurai said that air dodge are subjected to be change over the time, so we don't know final version of air dodge. I really hope that they would talk about that in direct.

Considering the Brawl Air Dodge is still in as of Little Mac's trailer, I really doubt it's going to be changed to Melee's.

Still, as long as they put some effort into balancing it (say, only one dodge per period of time in the air) it wouldn't be too bad. Even if Melee's was pretty great...

Kid Icarus controls fine for me, did you try the pinky wrap solution/supporting it with your right hand?

If youre using the stand, you are creating a somewhat uncomfortable situation to play the game with. Supporting it with your right hand= extremely comfortable for me

Why do I get this bad feeling that Sakurai is going to resign from being the lead director of the game due to health or something? I mean, as much as I want the direct to be sunshine and megatons for 30 minutes, it seems like there has to be some bad news.

Crap, why'd you say that. Now that the idea is in my head is a constantly scaring me

I'm not saying that it will be melee's air dodge, but I'm saying that it might not be same as Brawl's Dodge. I would rather to not judge anything until it's final trailers.

I did suggested same thing in chatroom and few people don't think it would happens. I still think that Sakurai's injuries is very serious matters, so doctor could force to take him out (depend on country' policy)

Why would you think sakurai would say this in a direct

I dunno, that looks pretty slow to me. Especially compared to Melee. I know Sakurai said he would try to strike a balance between Brawl and Melee, but this doesn't seem like a good balance. However, this is only a small gif. I'll wait until the final build is shown off and make my decision then.

For some reason, the Wii U version seems far faster than the 3DS one to me.

I hope that's one thing they change. Actually, I'd love if you choose your dodge type when you're choosing characters.

Oh, totally forgot. Damn. Directional dodging was the bees knees.

:(

Nothing more slick than air dodging through a huge attempt at edge guarding.

Someone mentioned that in chatroom. Actually he said that he think that Wii U system would be more on competitive side, and 3DS system is more of casual (battle would be like Brawl) That's his speculation tho.

This is an unprecedented direct for many reasons. We've never had a Smash exclusive direct either.

I don't think it will happen, but I'm tempering my hype.

But the fun in it is letting the hype go wild. A good direct is AWESOME, but the journey and hypetrain ride is historically the best part

2x Pokemon Direct and 1 x Wonderful 101; nothing happens. However its safer to follow this quote, "Always expect the unexpected!"

I think we might get Mario Kart Direct next month as well.

That was me, and I was joking lol

lol

I do think however that if the 3DS version does end up being slower, it has more to do with the smaller screen size and amount of mayhem on it. Whereas the Wii U version has a whole HDTV for you to play around in and go incredibly fast without straining your eyes, the 3DS does not have that same pleasure.

The 3DS and Wii U versions are completely different games though. Of course there would be a difference. It's like comparing Aladdin on the SNES to Aladdin on the Genesis.

If Sakurai does end up stepping down, I don't think it'll affect SSB4. I could picture a scenario where they establish SSB4 as Sakurai's swan song to the series and have some emotional music (plus possible SSB4 cutscene reel?) backing it and establishing that SSB4 is the Smash Bros. game he's always wanted to make, and then noting that the franchise is in good hands for the future. I doubt they'd specify an actual successor at this point, but I have a feeling if this hypothetical happened it'd be a while before another Smash Bros. came out.

Gameplay is probably gonna be exactly the same.

Speed will be the same too. The only differences should be modes, control, stages and special functions.

This little clip is kinda proving the initial thought I had that air dodges can only be done once someone reaches the "tumbling" state in the air versus any time you're in the air a la Brawl. Still for all, I think everyone would appreciate the return of directional air dodges.

If they mean wavedashing, I dont really want them in. Nobody's hands should have to put so many inputs in at once at such speed. It does things like give handcramps and make it such that people who cant move their hands fast enough struggle tremendously

That's what I did and it was uncomfortable. Supporting the whole 3DS XL on my pinky like that. I have large hands/fingers so it was easy to do, but very uncomfortable

With the stand it was perfectly fine.

You can't use that .gif as proof of that, though. All trailers prior to Brawl's release never showed you could air dodge out of hitstun. The CPUs or humans in the videos didn't air dodge out of hitstun -- probably to make the game look good and flashy. It's why I'm very skeptical of this (air dodging out of hitstun) for Smash 4 to this day.

Maybe, try not using your pinky then. As long as I was supporting it with my right hand in the lower right corner, I was fine. You dont really need access to the R button anyways.

I don't see how you got that from this gif....
