room in Iron Keep is kicking my ass. Is he physically tougher the second time or is it just the lack of ballistas?

Not sure what type of character you are playing but he can be super easy. If melee, just strafe towards his shield, when he does his sheild slam back up a few steps, then punish his combos.

With a decent shield any attacks that do connect will deal negligible stam drain. I destroyed him w/this strat.

I feel like I need to increase my stamina some more. With 20 Endurance and Third Dragon Ring, I feel like I am stun locked way too often from weapons in PVP. It's at 135 right now.

Could anyone tell me what that crystal thats growing out of
the Soul of that big dead Dragon
is about after revisiting the place where you fought
The Dukes Dear, Freja
?

Alright I need some help.
I'm at Drangleic Castle, got past the two Dragonrider Bosses. Heading down the stairs, beat the 2 rows of soldiers. Keep going beat the mastodons etc. I see a 2 doors. One won't open the other does.

I head into that one and see a lever. It won't let me pull it. I'm assuming this opens the other door. So....what do I need to do to get it to be able to be pulled?

Pay a visit AFTER talking with
the ancient dragon.

And boy, I was hugely surprised when I found out that you can change sex in the game.

Beat one of the Stone Soldiers near the Titan to activate the Lift where that lever is.
:)

Thanks Tafer, I'll try that!

Anyone here use axes? I have a friend who wants to know a good axe to use on a STR/Faith build. I'm not too familiar with the weapon set, but I don't think axes are a good fit for them. Lightning scales with faith, right? What are some weapons people with str/faith builds here, use?
Use a lightning infused greatsword (the ultra greatsword) At 50 strength and 8 faith I'm one shotting literally everything. Works wonders on PvP too. But some other good strength weapons are the Gyrm Axe and the Great Hammer both have nice scaling and a decent moveset.

I might even go as far to say the Gyrm great axe if they don't mind the moveset of it wrecks shop too.

Ghazi did you figure out what that other armor set is yet? I can''t find anything on it at all.

So wait, sorry... lucatiel just died on the rotton fight, and I ended up winning.

Am I screwed now?

So, there were some switches in Earthen Peak, I didn't really understand the point of. There were some that lowered or raised a vessel with poison liquid. What is the point of this? Anyone managed to crash them into enemies' heads or what?`And then there was a lever that closed a door. Seemed rather pointless. Anyone know what these were for?

After you burn the windmill,
it turns into a healing pool
. Still not a great use of a lockstone.

Ok, it is kinda close to the boss door, so I can see it being useful to heal up before the boss after clearing the nearby enemies, without wasting any healing resources. But after burning the windmill, the boss is so easy that you don't really need it. So it really feels like a waste, considering the fact that I could use one of the lockstones to get something really great like a Titanite Slab in another area.

Gavlan sells it whenever he pops up. You should be able to find him in a cave in Harvest Valley if you haven't already.
However, the more efficient way to get them is definitely to farm them in Huntsman's Copse.

Hm, I haven't met any Gavlan. There was an area close to the start of the level where I saw messages saying there would be a merchant nearby, but I never found any. Guess I should just get to the Copse and get it over with.

You found the Rat Covenant area. One of From's more clever covenant ideas. People get summoned into their world. If they kill you they get a rat tail to rank up the covenant. There are also lots of Pharros doors that unlock traps that a host can use to their advantage. There are 2 areas in the game for the Rat Covenant so you will likely see them again.

Sounds really cool! I think I'm gonna join that covenant later. Only thing I'm worried about is that unlocking traps would be a bit of a waste of Pharros stones. Heh, I feel a bit bad that I ruined his fun by finding him and attacking him. He probably wanted me to go through his obstacle course rather than fight him.

I would say it's their worst covenant idea. The encounters just take so long in Doors of Pharos. The rat bros just sit at the top of the level, and it takes forever to get to them if they have all the enemy doors unlocked. If I am just trying to go buy something from Gavlaan and I get summoned as a grey spirit it is really annoying, since I know the game is going to waste a bunch of my time forcing me to go through the tedious PvE section.

Yup, it's terribly frustrating when you're just trying to move through the area. At least you don't have to go to any of the Belfry areas if you don't want to.

I don't know, for me it was really fun. And a Pharros stone is a really nice reward. But if you are summoned over and over again, I guess I can see how it gets old after a while.

Finally beat all the bosses!
Ancient Dragon
almost drove me crazy! What an horrible boss, one-hit kill and an absurd range. In this fight they forgot the principles of the Souls games, that it is "challenging but fair", and "you die but you learn". From probably knew it was broken, then decided to use it as an optional boss.

At first i decided it was my character fault, then i used a soul vessel to build a pure mage (with no health, strenght, etc), and it was even worse because of the range of the spells... then i decided to use another Soul Vessel and made a Strenght based built (for the Large Club and Dragonrider Bow). I died another dozens of times with help (!!!), and decided to fight the boss alone, since it was taking too longo to go to Amana, revive, go back, summon, etc. And it didnt help that the majority of players dont have a clue what to do there also.

I went to fight with just the +10 Large Club, with no armor, Cloranty +1, Blades +1, that Dragon ring that raises a lot of things, and that other ring that raises your physical damage when you are low on health... this time i had 60 in strenght, and was 125SL. I was doing 500 damage regularly, so i tought i was on the right path.

Decided to try the strategy to stay under the boss, always "touching" one of his back legs from the "inside"... usually he tried to smash on one side, i rolled to the other, attacked, he changed the side of the stomp, i rolled to the other, and then he tried to shot fire under him, and this was really easy to evade. Since it didnt use the flying fire attack (that is a pain to understand and evade), it was just a matter of time to FINALLY beat him.

Now i will start planning the NG+. Upgrading what i may use, getting the armor and items that i didnt get, etc. In this topic, i would like to ask a question: Are the players separated between NG+? I mean, can i summon or fight with people in their NG++ while i am in the NG+ (imagine both have the same level and soul memory)?

Once in NG+, the game seems to open up to all soul levels and all additional NG. Only the first NG is excluded.

Btw, A.Dragon drove you crazy?
Dark Lurker
with strength build felt impossible to me. First and last boss I had to re-spec for (went full pyro).

Santier's Spear:
Oh man I thought I had the most genius idea: break the spear in the corrosive acid pool in Aldia Keep. It's so brilliant.... but it doesn't work.

Only getting 1 point per level seems like a waste of a level though.

It's worth it if you keep getting stunlocked.

I have 38 End and with Third Dragon Ring I have 155 stamina, which is just right, as often I can get low on stamina but I rarely get stunned with how much stamina I have (I also use a greatshield and I think greatshields lower stamina consumption when getting hit).

For me, the enemies before the
Dark Lurker
were worse! Against the boss, in my first attempt, i manage to got him under 50%, but then,
he created a copy of himself and destroyed me with that hex that explodes
. It was difficult, but at least i could breath, i could drink an Estus, i could see what was coming, things i couldnt do with the
A.Dragon
. The second time i tried, i saved my Flame Swathe, and used right when he did that.

Btw, when i read people talking apout Dark Lurker, i imagined a monster similar to the FlameLurker :P It was a surprise when i actually saw the boss, totally different from what i was expecting.

Oh, and thanks for the answer!

Is that just the armor, or is your guy a bit.... umm...... hefty?

Looks awesome either way. XD

Haha, yes he is at maximum heft. But the armour seems to compliment it quite nicely. Thanks!

Looks like how I'd imagine Barristan Selmy. Very cool.

Thanks for replying! I'm not much of a GoT boff, but the similarities are striking.
So glad that the character creation is miles better this time around. I'm sure you could make a much better likeness (of anyone for that matter).

Raising the vessel allows you to get it out of the way while fighting, so you don't accidentally break it with your sword. I think you can also break it over enemies' heads if it's raised. I don't remember a lever that closed a door, sorry!

Hm, I haven't met any Gavlan. There was an area close to the start of the level where I saw messages saying there would be a merchant nearby, but I never found any. Guess I should just get to the Copse and get it over with.

Ah, so if you've never met him, he won't show up there. You need to
go and meet him for the first time in No-man's Wharf. He's in the upper story of a building with a bunch of dark stalker monsters. When you get close to the building, you'll hear him gulping down his drink and see him through a hole in the second-floor wall.
Once you meet him, he'll pop up at various points in the game — quite useful.

Santier's Spear:
Oh man I thought I had the most genius idea: break the spear in the corrosive acid pool in Aldia Keep. It's so brilliant.... but it doesn't work.

lol, too bad acid doesn't affect weapons. ;)

Try hitting a wall or a boulder. After some swing, the spear should be broken. If you need a living sandbag, attack Sweet Shalquoir until the weapon breaks. She's invincible anyway.

Only getting 1 point per level seems like a waste of a level though.
Yeah, which is why I'm not sure.

It's worth it if you keep getting stunlocked. Though I'm often stunlocked, even in normal game due to rolls and heavy magic spells.

I have 38 End and with Third Dragon Ring I have 155 stamina, which is just right, as often I can get low on stamina but I rarely get stunned with how much stamina I have (I also use a greatshield and I think greatshields lower stamina consumption when getting hit).

Good point. I often get stunlocked in PVP close attacks, so maybe I'll add at least 10 or 20 levels into Endurance. Esp if some of my spells end up using a lot of stamina it seems.

For an extra 10 levels, that's like 3,000,000 souls now. :lol
But, getting a bunch from co-oping or esp from invasions can get you a lot.

Maybe I'll respec my stats a little to give me a heads start and just lower my Faith stat, which is like 75 right now.

I love the series but think it's sort of funny how the mantra of fans is that the game is tough but fair and when you die it's your fault. Unless a button press doesn't register, or doesn't queue, or is delayed, or the camera clips into walls or an enemy, or the hit box is bizarre. Or my recent favorite, you drop a prism stone into a hole to see if you can drop down without dying, it lands visibly so you decide to drop down and it turns out to be a bottomless pit. But otherwise, it's always your fault.

This always drove me crazy too. The Souls series is really fun but it's super janky a lot of the time and it's pretty much ignored. I remember when I played dark souls for the first time and all I heard was people spouting that nonsense. I was floored by how often an enemy would tag me right through a fucking wall.

Omg, yeah,
that stupid hex! it always tries to get behind you.
I found the Dragon to be much easier (
which was basically "bait fire breath and react" - if it flaps its wings, run far away but never in front of it. If it doesn't flap, run close and hit it two times (dual greatsword)
).
As for the look, something like a Flame Lurker would have been awesome. What I didn't expect was
a four-armed spirit healer (World of Warcraft).
:D

Man, mages are disappointing. The low HP and low attack power makes it difficult. Everything kills me in 1-2 hits, and theres too many enemies so I run out of uses for my magic. I get poisoned and I'm fucked, I get hit I'm fucked, all my attacks are slow and barely hurt the enemy. I just got to Earthen peak, and I'm ready to call it quits.

People say mages are fun, well, I doubt that. I felt strong on my warrior. Unless I abuse pyromancy, mages are super weak, or am I doing something wrong?

So Dark Souls II allows you to get invaded while hollowed? I got a regular invader in Huntsman's Copse while hollowed. It was my first regular invader during the 30+ hours of gameplay lol.

I got invaded for the first time today, after 60 hours of playtime. Hahaha.

I kinda wonder why invasions are so rare, especially since they happen pretty much all the time in Luna Belfry, but it certainly must have something to do with the supply of red orbs being limited. I like the way it works in Demon's Souls: everybody has a red orb with unlimited uses and invasions are much more frequent. Have no idea why they decided to change it for the Dark series, it worked so well.

Invasions being rare prob deals with the formula of who the game picks to be invaded. It seems like Sinners are invaded more often than non-sinners. Once I became a sinner, I started to get a boat load of red invasions. So I bet that unfortunately drives down the invasions for regulars. Even more so as there doesn't appear to be any wait time between invasions unlike regulars.

Red Cracked Eye Orbs can be bought in NG+ btw. Though do cost a hefty 10,000 souls. I wished they dropped more often. I've gotten so many Blue cracked eye orbs, it's not even funny.

Mostly because of Soul Memory limit in NG, I've gotten many more invasions since moving to NG+. They did it on purpose so you could enjoy your first playthrough without too many low-level griefers, then the real game starts at NG+ and only Level limitations matter, opening the summon limit a lot more.

No hitting the cat. D:

Go to the first bonfire in Shaded Woods, hit the switch, kill the mobs that pop as close together as you can, spam R2 on their bodies, profit.

So i summoned Lucatiel for the third boss fight i needed for the trophy, it was the smelter demon but she didn't actually enter the arena. Does it still count for the trophy?

Think that as well as increasing my stamina, I might reduce my Faith little more and increase my Str/Dex little more to up my weapon choice to do more damage/stun block them some bit more. Say this, as I've occasionally come up against builds that literally do no damage. Esp if they have a 100% magic/etc reduction shield up at all times.

Use a lightning infused greatsword (the ultra greatsword) At 50 strength and 8 faith I'm one shotting literally everything. Works wonders on PvP too. But some other good strength weapons are the Gyrm Axe and the Great Hammer both have nice scaling and a decent moveset.

I actually did recommend the Great Sword to him, as that's what I'm currently using, except I have it Fire infused and I'm using the Pyromancy Fire Weapon to make it even stronger. I'll let him know about the Gyrm Axe and Great Hammer, as well, though.

Haven't been able to find on Creighton's other armor either, I'm beginning to think it may have been a glitch.

So i summoned Lucatiel for the third boss fight i needed for the trophy, it was the smelter demon but she didn't actually enter the arena. Does it still count for the trophy?

This happened to me yesterday, for Smelter Demon too, and it didn't give me the achievement when I beat him and he was my third one. So, maybe not?

you need to talk to her at the bonfire outside
Aldia
to get the trophy after she gives you the equipment, i think.

hey anyone got tips for maximizing my hex mage? I feel uber weak. I barely scratch the triple threat triad. Running a +7 Archdrake Staff, and +5 arch chime.

To the Sunbro who helped me kill
the Smelter Demon with Lucatiel on NG+
and was stun-locking him with a twinblade: you earned your Sun medal. Praise the Sun! in short, Praise the Sun!

losing 100k souls is not a good feeling.

Try 450k :)

I've given up on NG+ for the meantime and have started a freshie. I just wasn't in the right frame of mind to be tackling it; the game really does not fuck around.

Opinions on the Drangleic Sword as an 'entire play-through weapon'?

I actually found that standing by his leg makes it harder. I baited him into using his up in the air fire while running far away, then when he landed I was in front of him and just baited his ground fire breath and moving to the side, this way I could get in two heavy attacks while he was breathing fire. I found the foot trick to not work because his feet hitboxes are all messed up. Also another quick tip when you fight him next time when he goes into the air run in the direction of his tail, so do not lock on to him the whole fight either, it makes it a lot harder to evade his air fire attack. Don't get hit by the tail on his way down either.

Well in dark souls they did have the dark wraiths for the unlimited invasion stone. Do the blood bros not have that in this game? I assumed they did.

Sorry for the double :/

Holy shit, all these invasions by Blue Sentinels are starting to piss me off. I'm in NG+++ right now, collecting the last missing achievements which can't be done offline. But since I've killed all the NPC before I started NG+, my sin level must have grown very high. No matter how many invaders I kill, I just can't get rid of my sinner status. Please don't tell me I need to die to these invaders. My ego can't handle losing on purpose.
Worst thing: I'm trying to farm sunlight medals by helping other players with some bosses. But every time I get invaded, the game erases my summoning sign. Which happens about every 30 seconds when I'm online.
At least invasions are not a surprise to me anymore. Everytime the game erases my summoning sign, it takes about 15 seconds until the invasion message pops up and the invader spawns. Enough time for some buffs and to position myself right behind the invader (after a while, you'll learn all the invasion spawn points).

Sinner gotta pay, you filthy sinning bastard

Okay, I freed rosabeth, how do i survive this onslaught as a mage? 4 goblins, and they all basically 1 shot me. I can't kill them fast enough, it's just not possible. I've tried sniping them, but, for some reason I either hit the wall or it clips through them without damage. So, I can't lure them out I have to fight all 4, but, it's too difficult when I die in 1 hit. I don't understand how, or why From fixed it so you can't hit them anymore to lure them out.
