I wonder what model they'll use, since he didn't appear in SS. A new model or a TP one.

Not even Link and Zelda got updated models, I don't see how that's even a question. It'll be TP Ganondorf again. Maybe Demise makes it in as a separate character with the sword based moveset that people asked for Ganondorf during ages, while Ganondorf remains the same.

I actually like the way Ganondorf plays in Melee and Project M so if they take him out I hope they give another character the same sort of slower but more powerful version of C. Falcon's moveset.

Ganondorf was the worst character in Brawl, though. Heavy and strong has never worked in Smash. They would have to give all of his moves additional effects to make it work.

The main issue is that the usable attacks of the "strong" characters in Smash are never actually that strong compared to the other characters'. So they end up just slow, but hitting basically as weakly as anyone else, or even weaker than average in some cases.

Nintendo have so few villains and ganondorf has been around for so long. There are so many cool things you can do with his moveset it just makes no sense for him to be a clone of falcon (whos moveset is just made up from scratch). Why not make him unique and give him some of the moves he uses in the zelda games?

I'm not a fan of Black Shadow (Captain Falcon's arch-nemesis -- I consider Goroh more of a "rival"), but boy he'd be perfect for Ganondorf's moveset.

Can I just ask SmashGAF something?

Why on earth would Sakurai ever, ever, ever make Ridley playable? I know its a running joke but...seriously. For anyone who has played the smash games since inception...you have to at least have an inkling that it doesn't make any sense. Its not a good character to put in smash because his moves would, in theory, be overwhelming in comparison to all other characters. And for every other reason under the sun. It literally doesn't make sense.

(I expect to eat crow eventually).

People just like cool looking characters without realizing that they make absolutely no sense in the scheme of things.

Samus is going to be fighting Villager and only have a 50% chance of winning (assuming the game is well-balanced). Olimar should fit in the palm of most characters' hand. Nothing in this game is meant to make sense.

Lots of characters "don't make sense". Snake, Game and Watch, Rob, the Ice Climbers, Falcon. None needed to make sense. Bowser, Ganondorf, and Mewtwo would all be overwhelming if they made sense. The idea is that the devs will make it work, like they have for so many characters previously.

People want him because he looks cool and he's a recurring/important boss in a major Nintendo series.

The bit in Melee's intro makes a playable Ridley look very feasible, imo.

I'm not one to always shit on who people want in the game. Pretty thankful to still see Sonic in there. But I also agree that Ridley is completely uninteresting, and that there are a ton of better character options.

In a traditional sense he wouldn't fit in at all. Which is why I want him in, plus him being one of the coolest villains in Ninty's history. SSB4 is looking to be much more varied in character styles and Ridley could have a very interesting play style. Like how they joked with Little Mac being bad off the ground, Ridley could be the opposite. Just imagining flying around with Ridley makes me a happy chozo.

Plus, as mentioned, most characters in smash don't fit in, which is a big part of the charm.

One part of it is folks feeling like Metroid is big enough (or treated with enough reverence) that it can stand to gain a new character. As most other villanous figures in the series are either gargantuan alien beings/constructs or humanoid but mostly unremarkable or indistinguishable from the previously established in Smash Samus, everyone's settled on Rids because he comes within a certain size (hurrhurr), or more appropriately, a more iconic and malleable form versus every other candidate.

Another reason is the idea that the Smash roster is woefully lacking in iconic Nintendo villains despite having three previous rosters to work in some more. Ridley represents the face of the most recurring villain forces in the Metroid series and as such does another service in showing up in the cast.

The final reason is simply the idea that people just want something crazy and overwhelming. People want retooled Ganondorf still after all. You're also not doing Sakurai any justice stating that because of how overwhelming a force Ridley is traditionally, he wouldn't be able to make something that works in a Smash type mold.

FWIW, I'm really not as invested in Ridley as a lot of other folks are, but I support the idea because I believe that Sakurai would do the idea justice if ever inspired to and also to have another wholly new style of character to play in game. Metroid getting another representative is also icing on the cake.

I was having a perfectly fine normal day where time was flowing well until I came back in this thread because it floated back to the first page again. Then my heart started racing and I got excited for Tuesday all over again. Damn it all. :(

I'm pretty indifferent about it.

Because SmashGAF would, at the end of the day, want a character roster that's 500 characters long. I saw someone ask for fucking WADDLE DEE once.

And they feel that Villager and Wii Fit Trainer inclusions make any of their weirdest fantasies more legitimate. Neglecting the fact that, aside from Bowser, Yoshi and the Pokemon characters, pretty much every inclusion in Smash has been close to or actually humanoid.

Don't bother making sense of it.

If I were able to make a fancy bingo card, mine would actually list roster CUTS more than additions. (speaking of which, someone care to help a fella out on that end?)

Cuz seriously, who out there is still jonesing to play as ROB?!

Ridley might seem strange at first but there are a lot of characters that also fit that criteria that are already in the game. I imagine he'd play like a heavier version of Charizard I guess, with obvious moveset differences. I'd say there's a decent amount of potential.

The biggest reason I think people want him in the game is that Metroid needs another rep. Which makes sense, I think. Samus + ZSS Transformation is not nearly enough representation for one of Nintendo's most loved series.

Also I like Therja as a character but she's not important enough in relation to the Fire Emblem series to act as the rep from that series, IMO.

The "what moves would Ridley even have" thing is a weird point to raise, when Smash Bros. once took the pilots from a racing game and space shooter and gave them magical flame kung fu.

Let's not forget the legless toy robot that had no rocket boosters or substantial articulation.
