NeoGAF, welcome to .webm - the FUTURE (of burning out your CPU)

Someone with JavaScript skills is needed, because I can't do it on my own. Turning off autoplay locks me on a still of the first frame.

They're not embedded because he saved them into .mp4 format instead of .webm.

Ah, the MP4/WEBM difference. That was a result of me forgetting to save changes to my recording settings. They're embedded for me but that's probably because of a codec I have and it went unnoticed as I thought my settings saved.

Time to test again, as converting them would likely result in compression.

Seriously. My CPU usage is at 100% too on the first page, and the files run slower.

The quality still curbstomps GIFs, though, and they work fine when popped into another tab separately.

Maybe I have a magic CPU? My i5 2500k at 5GHz never goes higher than 64% utilization and ive switched to every page multiple times.

Another Greasemonkey script from Delusibeta. It's even better now.

I've bashed together a non-autoplaying version of aforementioned Greasemonkey script. For this inital version, right click > Play starts the show. I want to get the controls showing by default (to distinguish WebMs from standard still pictures), but for a quick and dirty script at half three in the morning, it's not bad.

Here's half a meg of Kill la Kill, to demonstrate.

Works like a dream in Firefox! Thanks for linking to this and thanks to Delusibeta for their work!

I downloaded the FireFox greasemonkey script. It's kind of incredible. Saves my CPU and the Webms look incredible.

This is a new era my internet friends. I'm glad that I was here for the first moments.

But how do we make one?

There's ANOTHER change, albeit a small, but convenient, one.

Version 2 of my non-autoplaying Greasemonkey script is live. Turns out my first guess was on the money. :v

Now, all WebMs have big stinkin' play buttons on them, so you can't miss them. Also, that simplifies the playing procedure to "left click on them". Much better!

Source code should be on the site, if anyone wants a mirror I'll happily post it here.

Bless Andrex and Delusibeta.

Is there a WebM hosting site that I can actually keep track of stuff I uploaded? Pomf doesn't seem to have an account system in place.

Yea CPU usage jumped to 100 for me on the first page. Will wait for the update that doesnt auto start it and adds the interface... CANTWAIT.webm

There is a script that allows you to "play" them instead of auto-start:

[Edit] Everyone's already worked out the change. :v

I think it's because everybody is linking webm's with very high resolutions. Hopefully we go back to gif-sized resolutions once we get past the excitement. We surely don't need 1080p reaction webm's. :p

It doesn't work on mobile. So... it's useless?

Am I missing something here?

Welcome your desktop/laptop overlords. It's nice to check in on a phone, but .gifs take ages to load on a phone anyways. You cannot get the full Neogaf experience on a mobile device... not quite yet.

The revolution burns on from 4ch to here, shitting all over your chest in HD. Any chance of a FireFox extension? I use Chrome only sparingly.

I recommend using the Firefox extension through Greasemonkey that was just posted. It makes them not autoplay, and it will spare your CPU.
