Why doesn't Pac-Man fit? He fits in just fine in Mario Kart Arcade, after all.

Plus, he's all but confirmed along with Mii at this point.
 
Well, the Direct leaked early and I was able to watch it all. It's pretty surprising that they were able to fill all 30 minutes with a documentary on the process of bringing Samus' high-heeled shoes from Other M into Smash.

Yeah, the NL appearence did make Takamaru a more popular choice, I think. He was also brought up a lot during Brawl hype though. I think it's just that he has a sword and his game looks fun.

Another obscure, dead in the water retro character I'd like to see is Sukapon. It's the main character of Joy Mech Fight (Japan only), which to my knowledge is Nintendo's first fighting game? I remember seeing the name on some of the polls Sakurai shared results from previously.

The thing is I don't remember anyone really wanting Pac-Man in this game until he was brought up on that list of characters. I still can't tell if people really want him or just see him as a foregone conclusion at this point.
 
Hey, just became Namco is making the game doesn't mean any Namco characters are guaranteed to show up. Nintendo (Monolith Soft) developed Project X Zone, didn't they? Last I checked, there were no Nintendo characters in that game.

How is he all but confirmed? What evidence is there to surmise that Pac-Man is in other than Namco is helping with the game's development?
 
Crossin' my fingers so hard for Professor Layton, even though I know in my heart of hearts it's just a pipe dream.

I also support a smash bros with Pac-Man, the idea of a fight between Mario, Megaman, Sonic, and Pacman is some serious videogame history compreessed together in awesomeness

The latter for me. I'd sooner want Klonoa, Bomberman or Simon when I think of retro third party characters. (I know Klonoa isn't exactly retro but you get my point)

Still Pac-Man has certainly earned his legacy status so like, I get it.
 
I'm very indifferent on Pac-Man. I don't think I'd ever play him, but if other people want him in, then no big deal. Plus he's probably the best mascot Namco could contribute in terms of recognition.

During E3 last year a GAFer "predicted" that the newcomers for Smash would be Villager, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Little Mac, Mii and Pac-Man.

That's one hell of a prediction, wouldn't you say?

You've been in Smash threads long enough to know about the leak from last years E3 that called Wii Fit Trainer, Villager (the first two are the big ones) and Mega Man (as well as Little Mac) long before everyone else. Pac-Man and Mii more likely than not in. The sooner you accept it the faster the healing can begin.

Good points all-round. I can also imagine some of the Assistant Trophies that would be included, such as Dracula or the Grim Reaper being summoned.
 
Pac-Man is a good idea. He's an important, iconic video game character, not just on Nintendo consoles but in the history of games.

He represents Namco well. I can't even name other Namco characters beyond Pac-Man, Mr. Driller, Klonoa, and Galaga ship.
 
If a Namco character will be added it better fucking be Klonoa.

They should give the games a cool, original name, and just called the 3DS version what it is: the "3DS version".

Super Smash Bros. Rumble - 3DS Version
Super Smash Bros. Clash - 3DS Version
or even just Super Smash Bros. 4 - 3DS Version

The current name is just so plain and lazy. Imagine Microsoft keeping the current "Halo for Xbox One" placeholder. It's just as bad.

Edit : The Wii U version shouldn't say "Wii U Version". It should just be the main version without any extra explanation. The 3DS version is the secondary version. I know they probably want to shy away from people thinking that, but it's true, and I think people will be hyped to have a portable Smash regardless.

I find it kind of hard to believe that someone not only named all three correctly, plus a future character, but also that two of the characters were absolute long shots - Villager, who was specifically mentioned by Sakurai in a Brawl Iwata Asks as being the kind of character who couldn't work as a fighter, but also "Wii Fit Trainer," a character that nobody ever guessed and who I don't even think had an official name as "Wii Fit Trainer" before being announced for SSB4.

Here's what will happen:

Iwata will show up, welcome every viewer and talk a little bit about Nintendo. He'll show a pie chart of 3DS LTD sales vs Vita LTD sales in Japan, and after a few moments the pie chart surprisingly turns yellow and into a 3D model, slowly becoming Pac-Man

I would love Wonder-Red, but I would love if they found a way to I corporate the entire group of main people as 1 char ability-wise.

The final smash could be something amazing...

I'm expecting a newcomer and around 2~3 veterans, with some info on stages, mechanics, characters (plus veteran changes) and the development itself.

It's ok. When it happens we can declare blood feuds on pacman players and pour ourselves nice tall glasses of haterade to sip while targeting pacman exclusively during any match he participates in.
