Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

The affiliation thing for me seems weak to me at this point. He's already been in one Smash game so that alone in my book should give him the pass. Aside from that he has a great moveset and I know for me and many others he works great as the "outsider" character. It was because of Snake that I even got a Wii and actually finally got into smash. So aside from what games he's been in on what platform that fact alone means a lot to me.

Also just to randomly add something, that Debug WiiU Menu from ages ago listed Metal Gear and just about everything on that list has happened aside from that. So my last hope now is some sort of MGS game for WiiU at E3, which would be a perfect time to reveal that snake is back.

But at this point i'm kind of accepting he's not coming back and just sitting here wondering what character to pick up now.
I guess the fact that he was already in one is a valid argument, but it still feels to me as if he shouldn't have been in it.

Fox's laser traverses the entire map, Wolf's projectile has limited range.
Fox's laser deals no knockback (doesn't even flinch), Wolf's has knockback.
Fox's laser travels ridiculously fast, Wolf's is fairly slow.
Fox can fire 3 lasers in just a short hop (if you're skilled enough), Wolf only one.
Wolf's projectile deals more damage than Fox's laser.
And the most important difference is that Wolf's gun also deals damage in melee range (that knife isn't only for show).]

Thanks, considering the fact that my friends all play Falco/Fox I can imagine that those things actually make him really different, as the more I play the less similar I feel that Fox/Falco are.

I am pretty sure that the "multiple character" statement was in relation to the transformation characters, and not the Ice Climbers. That "like the Ice Climbers" line was added by IGN, not outright said by Sakurai.
The point was more the fact that those characters needed to have all of their movesets being loaded into the match before or while (that was how it was handled in Brawl) transforming.
Ice Climbers always have the same moveset and once they're loaded, they're loaded.

In terms of my predictions of who's getting the cut and who isn't;

Jiggs, Cap and Ness will probably be in since along with Luigi (who Sakurai gave recompense on account of Year of Luigi) they're the hidden four. I know a lot of people have said that another Pokemon character would be too much but theoretically, Brawl had six, so that would put the amount of Pokemon here to five, which even in roster terms means there's one more addition between Brawl and now.

Dr. Mario, Roy, Young Link and Pichu are practically guaranteed no-shows. That much should be obvious, and I don't expect Sakurai to bring back Mewtwo either despite hopes and the revived interest due to Project M.

Ice Climbers I see being in the "more than likely" camp because I just don't see much of a reason why they'd receive the cut, especially when Sakurai said "limitations haven't been a problem so far" for Smash characters. Mr. Game & Watch will probably also stay alive and I also expect Meta Knight. Wario is all but confirmed now that Ashley is an Assist Trophy and Waluigi/Ashley also confirming the "Wario" franchise rep logo. Ganondorf will probably be confirmed post-release assuming he isn't a Cap clone again.

Everyone else I'm really iffy about. R.O.B. is unique enough to continue as his own character but he really strikes me as a one-off in some aspects. Perhaps he'll continue by virtue of being one of the "unique" characters so I'd say his chances are 50/50 at best. Same goes for Lucas because despite a resurgence of Earthbound popularity I wonder where the precedence will be for another character who's of region exclusive origin, but he seems varied enough to stay in.

Ike doesn't really seem like he has much relevance in terms of Fire Emblem anymore, in some ways I feel if we're going to have Chrom in it, one of the sword dudes would have had to go, and if Marth is in then Ike is ripe for the picking. Even if all of the characters are sword-based combat-ready users, the Fire Emblem series never really seemed to spell out any explicit abilities that the Smash series shows. If Ike would be in the game I don't see where the dividing line would be between all Fire Emblem inclusions if Chrom is included, and this isn't even accounting for the fact that Shulk might be included as another sword user.

Snake I expect to get the cut unfortunately. Loved the man in Brawl but even assuming Kojima was coy about his knowledge of his inclusion, there seems to be a big lack of context surrounding justification for his inclusion this time around.

The Star Fox inclusions is where it gets tricky. Wolf is a lot more varied in terms of being a "clone", but Falco has more history with Smash Bros and is probably the second most popular main role here. Hopefully Sakurai manages to balance out their differences more this time around (i.e giving them different final smashes for one).

They didn't need to be heels to do that. In fact, purely from a propulsive point of view, heels are the worst design because they'd just tip her forward compared to a jet from the whole sole.

The heels make sense because they look like they are meant to act like springs that both help her jump higher and cushion her falls. If you watch her bounce around on them in the trailer they look pretty springy. They're like Chell's high fall boots from Portal.

However, Wolf was planned to be in Smash 64's roster, and again almost made the cut in Melee (he was considered for the Fox clone, but Falco was ultimately chosen for his visual differences to Fox), so while Falco has the seniority, Sakurai wanted to have Wolf since the very first game.

Actually Zelda did get the same upgrade. Seems like it happened across the board.

I mean, she's not ZSS levels, just that there was a noticeable change.

Wow, I hadn't even noticed as I was too irritated by Samus to examine Zelda's new design properly. They literally just up'd every female character's breast size. That's awful. :/

Anybody think that Olimar's new final smash is going to be related to throwing rock pikmin?

- Sakurai didn't specifically state that Squirtle and Ivysaur are gone.
- Squirtle and Ivysaur are unique and already designed.
- Pokémon is one of Nintendo's best-selling franchises and has 720+ characters -- might as well have eight reps.
I wish.
#TeamNoCuts

It was utterly worth it, after my test I'm gonna be spriting like a madman.
You're gonna need DAYS to sprite all the assist throphies.

Sakurai just indisputably hinted that Ridley is both a boss AND a stage hazard.

But you must recover!

It's cute how some people still think Ridley has a chance.
After E3 there's going to be some crow to eat.

I wouldn't say "awful". It's just a thing that happened.

Oh c'mon, it's barely noticeable. And when the game is zoomed out, you won't see crap.

It's like "congratulation, you went from a size A to AA".

You're all crazy.
Not really but...
Zelda's change was almost unnoticeable and Samus is supposed to be the sexy female Nintendo rep after Other M and Zero Mission, so it's obvious she's given more evident feminine characteristics.

I think this proves even more so that they are in.

Also, the aforementioned Rosalina & Luma, who have far more complex buddy mechanics.

I think the technical challenges refer to the 3DS's power and not the complexity of the character's mechanics. The 3DS has plenty of buttons to do whatever you could with a GC controller. Maybe having 8 characters plus items was too much for the 3DS. Luma and the Pikmin are not comparable to real fighters they probably have the polygon count of items or assist trophies.

I hope (well, I reckon they are) they're still working on the character models for the assist trophies. Some of those shots make 'em look pretty bad... Lyn in particular looks terrrrrribleeeeeeeee

Well hello there, you got some very evident feminine characteristics there *tips fedora*
Sorry it just sounded to good.

Its not that bad I guess you wont notice it in the game I guess. Unless Sakurai added boob-physics :D Tripping is out but now the male fighters will get stunned by bouncing boobs

He got Rosalina and Pikmin running just fine.

Can Olimar really be an example of running fine?

He cut Olimar down to 3 Pikmin and re-tooled some of his fighting style because of it. If he had left Olimar with 5 Pikmin then that would have been a total of 24 characters in the event of a 4 man FFA with Olimar.

Here's how I'd want the Zero Suit to look ignoring her current design's materials and silhouette (also anatomy):

Also Greninja is definitely my favorite newcomer so far.
If only we got Blaziken instead of Charizard :(

Now jiggle physics would be out of place, in SSB. Much more than than a cup size upgrade for Samus/Zelda, which in normal gameplay you are never gonna notice anyway.

Looks like they pulled her straight out of Brawl. Same goes for Knuckle Joe.

We've seen the two Earthbound items from Brawl already though. So it doesn't seem likely they're dropping Earthbound. I guess Ness might be getting tweaked, like Yoshi. They seem to be simplifying all "special" recovery moves, so maybe Ness' special attacks are getting revamped due to that.

Oh hell no! He was fine for the last three games and Lucas even upped him without a problem. It is no problem to have a character that takes time to learn - especially in a line-up of about 50.

Also - which are the ones being simplified?

You know i was joking right?

By the way, do we know anything about gamepad-use? Not really or did I miss something?

If you have big boobs it means you're just an object.

Ah yes, I forgot, Zelda is now nought but a floating pair of C cups now. It's the tragedy that befalls all that dare to step beyond the realm of the A or Bs.

You know i was joking right?

I know. But I've seen people ask for such physics before.
I would only incorporate them into one character:
Wario
. Classic Sakurai.

Magenta/Pink.
I actually think yellow works pretty well, but I don't like that she already has glowing things in a different color.

One other thing I don't get: Why the hell is her hair band red?

Well, the boots aren't part of her Zero Suit, so it's okay they can be a different color. They're like some upgrade she strapped to her suit.

I'm going through the Direct, looking for new arrangements of themes from Nintendo games. Here's what I've got:

Tortimer Island Minigame (Animal Crossing: New Leaf)
Ballad of the Goddess (Skyward Sword)
Rocketbarrel Theme (Donkey Kong Country Returns)
Area 6 (Star Fox 64) (This one sounds different from the Brawl version to me, though again, not 100% sure)
Fairy Fountain Theme (Zelda series)
Gerudo Valley (Ocarina of Time)
Green Greens (Kirby series)
World Map (Pikmin 2)
Flower Garden (Yoshi's Island)
Comet Observatory (Super Mario Galaxy)
Main Theme (Punch-Out series)
Kapp'n's Song (Animal Crossing: New Leaf)
Spark Man's Theme (Mega Man 3)
Training Menu (Wii Fit)
Opening/Character Select (Super Smash Bros.)
Trainer Battle (Pokemon X & Y)

a) they got larger (somehow), b) you're assuming I liked the Other M redesign (I didn't).

This is Samus:

Samus_Aran_Varia_suit_Super_Metroid_Player's_Guide_1994.jpg

Tall, muscular, of moderate bust size. In general, built like the bounty hunter she is. Not what we're getting from Smash: a 5'9'' swimwear model.

That's one interpretation, one I like and I think she works better with Amazon proportions, but from DAY ONE Samus has always been a super model underneath the suit, let's not all pretend otherwise. Other M was ASS because it had shit writing and botched Samus' personality/character not because she shrank several inches.

Wow, I hadn't even noticed as I was too irritated by Samus to examine Zelda's new design properly. They literally just up'd every female character's breast size. That's awful. :/

If you couldn't notice it without someone posting a bunch of zoomed in stills (and I'm still not convinced there is actually a change in proportions) then its actually a complete non-issue.

I do think the yellow is a bit garish, though. Which do you prefer?

The Neon Blue works MUCH better than the bright yellow they were going for.

Feminists maybe.

Don't do this
