Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

Unless a new Mario or Zelda rep is showing up anytime soon, we're maxing out at 5, which will be more than Brawl (which, if you count Trainer & Zelda/Sheik as 1 character, was 4 for Mario, Zelda & Pokemon).
However Sakurai has never counted Pokemon Trainer, Zelda/Sheik, and Samus/ZSS as one character, he has always counted them as seperate characters. So if he had a rep count that would mean Mario got 4 reps in Brawl, Zelda got 5 reps in Brawl and Pokemon got 6 reps in Brawl.

Character select screen says otherwise.

And maybe Olimar.

The Pikmin are such an insignificant model size that it was probably more balance than anything why Olimar only has three now.

PT needed to dynamically switch between 3 different full player models. Something that even hurt performance on the Wii, not even taking into account the somewhat weaker 3DS.

Actually I think the 3DS' limitations worked in this game's favor. Not having switching characters is actually a nice change.

I don't think its fair to lump Greninja in a generic Pokemon from Pokemon X/Y thing.

So, did someone catch the part where they showed Peach second jump briefly? It was so short though, maybe it wasnt there in the first place... Wonder if they added more vertical distance to that compared to Brawl.

Good point. Mega Y is dumb looking, imo, BUUUUUUUUUUT, fits better for mewtwo playable, to make him different and unique and not just 'fighting'. So far we have no type-crossovers for any pokemon. Water/Dark, Fire/Flying, Fighting/Steel, Lightning, and presumably Normal/Fairy (for jiggly). Making it mega X would be at conflict with lucario's fighting type.

I think typings only matter if they are strongly related to the "theme" of the pokemon, like charizard's fire type, greninja's water type and pikachu's electric type. So we shouldn't expect other fire, water or electric pokemon. When the type is more like a secondary characteristic, it should be fine, so It's plausible to expect other flying or dark pokemon for example.

Couldn't tell honestly since it went so fast. Peach didn't get as much gameplay as i'd hope...

Teased character like Palutena/Ridley might be secret ones.
If that's it then keeping my #TeamReal avatar until the 3DS version is released.

I liked switching characters :/

People predicted popular pokemon from pokemon X/Y. Prediction Contest's deadline is June 9 or so, and Pokemon X/Y's release date is Oct 2013.

During that time, Final evolution of starters haven't shown so it's fair enough but I agreed that it's too vague.

Yoooo I don't know how I missed this.

Fucking ace. The items this time around have me so excited, a lot more items from series source material rather than original creations.

Samus hasn't been killed multiple times, resuscitated as a cyborg and had a direct clone made out of her.

Keep in mind that in-universe Classic Ridley and Other M Ridley are identical, the change of look is purely because Other M as a whole adopts a different style, and it's clear that for smash 4 they're going to use Other M visual style (aside obviously character that are not in that game in any form to begin with, like Dark Samus).
Also, by your logic, meta ridley IS classic ridley as identity.

In addition, even ST Link and WW Link are not the same character, yet when Toon Link is on the train stage, the engine driver is Alfonzo.

But I feel that's unlikely to see Alfonzo flying around the Pyrosphere spouting fireballs when Ridley's on stage.

Also there's strong evidence that the ridley shown on the direct is a Stage Boss in the fact that was flying at constant height for too long to be a recovery or similar move.

The 3DS game. It's 60 FPS. In 3D. Holy god damn. It looks great too imo. Was sure everything would be 30, it's a fair tradeoff that assists and stuff are 30.

Based Sakurai.

Smash 3DS is probably the best looking game I've seen from a polygonal stand point on 3DS and it's also the most impressive technically. That game at 60 fps in 3D is going to be incredible.

I'm so excited :D

(Also: I saw the Franklin Badge and Mr. Saturn in the 3DS screens video. Niceeee)

Considering Sakamoto wanted to sweep the entire Prime series under the rug as some sort of outlier, Meta Ridley is pretty much non-canon. If they're taking that into consideration then it doesn't matter what "Ridley" iteration it will be at the stage because it will implicitly be the same original Ridley, clone or not.

When did Sakamoto do that? The Prime series is prettily self-contained to begin with

There's a giant R.O.B Statue in Port Town in Brawl.

Good point. Palutena triple confirmed. I have no negatives now other than 'Sakurai didn't want to include her' which could literally be used for every character ever that is not included. I'm gonna go w/ 98% chance now.

I'm not really convinced that Squirtle and Ivysaur will be cut. I guess I can kind of see the "too many Pokémon angle" (even though I don't accept the premise, personally), but honestly, how many Mario characters are there? Pokémon is a bigger series than Mario at this point, why the hell shouldn't it be the most highly represented? There are 720 Pokémon, that's a lot to choose from.

That's not how I see it.
You're viewpoint doesn't matter if the game's director says otherwise.

Give me a quote where he specifically says this.

Considering just how packed the finished Brawl has turned out to be, it's obvious that the next Super Smash Bros. game will need to be something really very special and Sakurai's involvement hinges on just how different it'll end up being.

"There are 39 characters in the game this time around," he says, "and just adding a few more wouldn't be enough to justify another game in my opinion; I'd have to draw a line in the sand and have a new approach to the game to make it worthwhile. As long as the fans enjoy it though, that's what matters and in the distant future, I guess that might be something I'll have to consider."

Charizard + Ivysaur + Squirtle + ZSS + Sheik

35, 36, 37, 38, 39.

I agree. I keep seeing people saying they should cut Pokémon, and that it doesn't matter that it's a big franchise. Seeing people say things like "Pokémon should stick to its own series" and that they shouldn't be in it because it's "not a Nintendo franchise".

I honestly don't get people. They don't check facts and I honestly don't get the hate for Pokémon in this.

Has someone put a side by side comparison of the leak Palutena and the trophy one?

Yes. Main differences I saw were the inner circle of the halo differed in proportion to the outer circle and the staffs look different.

But obviously people will point out one is a model rip whereas the other would be in theory an original model.

I agree. I mean Pokemon is just as important to Smash as Mario. Look at the original, which series got more than 1 rep? Mario and Pokemon.

Is there actually a chance Cap Falcon and Ness won't be in this game? I mean there's a chance, but do we think it will actually come to pass?

we will know the full roster in the summer when the 3ds release

so the summer release June , July or August

all bets are on August late August

I'll take you up on that bet.

That makes you, IntelliHeath, and Axass. I look forward to enjoying a nice cold Slurpee of your bitter tears :)

I think we'll have another Pokemon surprise, but Ivysaur is probably done. Squirtle still has a decent shot though, even though Greninja hurts.

SmashGAF is just cut happy in general. Sheik, Lucario, Sonic, Toon Link and Marth were all considered cut by a lot of people at some point before they're announcements.

I didn't sleep well tonight thinking Ness & Lucas might not have made the cut. I think I might have to seek professional help if both my mains are removed from the game :(

People are using the Pokémon via PokéBalls as evidence of over exposure. They're just extensions of an item. You don't see them complaining about Mario or Zelda items being too plentiful. Pokémon has one item in the game (now two but they do the same thing).

The whole thing is ridiculous. Pokémon is Nintendo's 2nd most popular franchise. Hell, it's the world's 2nd most popular franchise.

It's not just here, it's elsewhere. Saw one person say they should cut all Pokémon and PokéBall items, and just have one representation; a trainer with Pikachu, but one of the specials is throwing PokéBalls as support which then release the Pokémon like the item.

So from the direct, the customization include
Mario
Fireball- Slow big fireball similar to ones from Mario Bros
-quick straight shot
Super Jump-fire effect added
Pit
Arrow- goes in a circle
Donkey Kong
Headbutt-superarmor but slower
Marth
Shieldbreaker- launches him horizontally with release
Kirby
Swallow- Freeze instead of swallowing them

So from this we can gather
These are only changes to special moves
We are probably going to get a few per each move
I'm going to guess a lot are going to be added effect (like fire, electricity, freeze, darkness, stick-in-ground,etc.)
