Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

Do people honestly think Ridley will return when he was announced as a stage Hazard on the Metroid level?

Technically, he never said ridley was a stage hazard. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Sakurai pulled another troll. Though, his shadow did look... well... too big for a playable character (albeit easily explained if he took the video while ridley was under a super mushroom effect)

There's a bit of hope since there 3(?) ridleys sakurai can use. One as a stage hazard and one as an character. Also....He didn't outright crush peoples dreams lol.

Wanna bet?

If Ridley actually was a stage-hazard boss, Sakurai would have shown it, but he just teased it with a shadow. I wasn't confident that Ridley was making it in before this direct, but now I'm positive he will be.

There are tons of reasons he didn't show it. I think it's a bit self-centered to think that it's to 'tease people who want ridley playable.'

It could be akin to the 'guess the trophy', where casual people might say 'oh man, i wonder who that is!?' because they honestly don't know, and then fans will be like 'oh my god it's ridley, how cool!' -- This is what i'm honestly guessing his intent was. The shadow was a 'tease' of ridley being a stage boss, and nothing more

It could also be to hide 'which version' of ridley it is. "Is it the prime version, the super metroid version, the other M version!? You'll have to wait and see!"

I honestly think he had no ill intent, and it's nothing more than just a 'tee hee, you know who it is!' and nothing more. Everyone here is looking at it from the perspective that ridley should be playable, which is why everyone is assuming it's a tease of his character reveal later.

Yeah, this is definitely the counterpoint to my argument and is why I'm not getting my hopes up for Ridley at this point. It's a shame that we probably won't see a Metroid newcomer at all, though, what with Ridley as a boss and Dark Samus as an Assist Trophy.

All I can hope now is that PM puts Ridley in as one of their newcomers, haha.

It doesn't really change anything though. Not getting an outright admittance as a hazard is odd, especially considering where in the direct he was shown, but teasing him like that isn't something he's done before.

It's unlikely but doesn't seem like it's outright confirmed just yet.

With no gliding mechanic/nerfing fliers, and the fact that Ridley was clearly air based in that scene, I think it's safe to say that he isn't playable. Unless you believe in that "He'll use a different Ridley!!!" bullshit.

We are talking about the guy who posted Ganondorf's taunt on the Brawl site to rub salt in the wounds of the fact that he was not only still mostly a clone, but an even shittier fighter than he was in Melee. You guys supporting Ridley seriously look like you are out of your damn minds. It makes me feel sad, not something to mock at this stage.

Also, did anyone notice the major clipping issues in some of the scenes? For the love of god take as much time as you need to fix that stuff Sakurai. Have no idea why it's still this bad at this stage unless there are a crap ton of characters to balance.

Sceptile does actually seem like the natural choice. He's one of only two bipedal grass-type starters, and it'd be odd but not impossible for Gen 6 to get two starter reps.

We already had one quadruped. Dont see why it needs to be bipedal

So, just to be nitpicky though - Sakurai never said that Ridley was a Boss/Stage Hazard like the Yellow Devil.

He said something like "Boss characters will appear in other levels" while they showed an image of Ridley's shadow in the Metroid stage.

While it's a very fair and likely assumption that this means Ridley is a boss on Pyrosphere (is that the right name?) - it is still only an assumption on our part.

The only thing that makes me think Ridley might still be in was his very similar troll move with the Psuedo Palutena trophy - for a second I'm sure everyone thought it really was Palutena and that she was de-confirmed as a playable character - but then it turned out it wasn't her and Sakurai still has us guessing about her inclusion (which seems pretty likely to me now).

I just checked the Direct back and noticed Saki Amemiya has a regular Smash icon. :( I guess I can cross Isa Jo off the list too.
Speaking of, I think Isaac's a really good bet now since his AT wasn't shown off and he's pretty much the last Brawl AT that could be playable.
Him and Tingle, in any case...

Pseudo Palutena, "Zero Suit Samus has been cut.
Not
".

He's a troll. Ridley's in. I'm more convinced now than before the direct.

I think this mode would just be "I'm at 80%? Better kill myself."
If SSB4 handles SD's like Brawl did it will be pretty much impossible to SD after you were hit even ONCE in that entire stock. Even if you jumped off the stage several seconds after being hit the opponent would still get the kill in SSBB, so I don't think you'd be able to game the mode via SD.

Last character hitting you before you jump off nets the kill.

I decided to take a shot at creating a roster. The first random spot is for the chorus kids/Marshall, and the second one is the actual random space.

I put Metal Mario on there, as Nintendo seems to have a weird fascination with him lately. In this roster Ganondorf has a sword, and Black Shadow gets his old moveset (With some tweaks).

He was a teaser shown with "other boss character appearances" as a caption after the Yellow Devil segment. Ridley being a playable character is about as likely as the Yellow Devil being
playable.

Metal item is confirmed.

The green Metal box from Mario 64 is in as an item, so Metal Mario's unlikely except possibly as an alt.

That part is for later :P

The rage that would be unleashed...

Metal mario would be hilarious...But he has been in smash before as an character lol.

Hey, if ridley is in, i'm all fine with that, but I honestly think that he's just a stage boss, nothing more, and everyone is overthinking the tease last night. I'll be happy to be proven wrong, but if i were forced to bet on one or the other, i'd bet on him not being in, unfortunately.

You're going straight into my "soon to eat crow list".

Yeah, he's almost definitely just a Boss Character, but it hasn't been "confirmed" yet, so there's still a very slim chance.

My guesses are Ice Climbers, Snake, Ike, Squirtle and Ivysaur not coming back.

Around 44ish characters, among the new ones yet to be announced, either Wonder Red or Bayo, Dixie Kong, Shulk, and Chrom or Lucina

None of the unlockable ATs from Brawl were shown.
True, but most of the unlockable Assist Trophies in Brawl are 3rd Party characters. Sakurai seemed to be trying to quash the possibility of a few characters being upgraded from AT to playable - namely Saki and Waluigi, which is another reason I don't think he'd do the tease with Ridley's shadow if he actually was a boss.

Not showing Issac isn't confirmation, but at least I still have hope!

Clipping probably isn't ever going to go away from smash bros, certainly not this time, so don't get your hopes up.

I know people kept saying that Latias is confirmed so they assumed that Latios would be in as well.

but I found an image evidence that Latios is in the game, but not that I doubt that she wouldn't be in.

Rewatching the Direct because I'm an obsessed fool, and I just realized swimming is gone from Jungle Japes.

Also I'm guessing everyone knows this already, but Marth's default Neutral-B is back to its Melee variation (a large arcing slash) rather than its Brawl version (a stab).
EDIT: This is incorrect, apologies for any confusion.
