Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

Phoenix Wright would be amazing, and he's also heavily Nintendo based. I don't want that many third parties, but he'd be a good fit. Only other one I really want to see is Simon Belmont.

Third party characters should be something special, not something that's cool but run of the mill

That's why Sonic and Mega Man are the perfect choices. They're iconic characters from the classic era. They're not just third party characters that have had a couple of recent hit games.

I agree with Joe. It makes perfect sense for Smash to have iconic third parties and not just someone random.

With the exception of the HD trilogy remake & UMvC3, every game Wright was in was on a Nintendo system.

Though yeah, Mega Man is more iconic, even though Capcom essentially switched him out for Ryu as their mascot.

As great as Phoenix is, he already got into a fighting game. And recently, too!

I'm pretty strongly of the opinion that it should be one character per third party company - any more would be pushing the bounds of the guest character definition. So no Amaterasu, no Phoenix Wright, no Viewtiful Joe, no Ryu, no Shadow, no Tails, no Eggman, no Simon Belmont. They can show up as third party Assist Trophies, but nothing more. Because I SAID SO.

Professor Layton for third party rep please Sakurai

I feel this is the reason why Rayman isn't in Smash despite Ubisoft wanting him in.

I said IF we got another Capcom character. Likewise, if we got another Sega character, I'd rather it be Bayonetta or Eggman, but that won't happen, either.

Come to think of it, Bayonetta could be a neat Assist Trophy depending on how far they take the "third party assists" concept...

Would go especially well with a playable Wonder Red, hmmmm?

Pyrosphere and extra background Ridley included.
Great stuff.

Better than Ridley.
As a Firebrand main, his Marvel incarnation is wholly underwhelming.

If we went for character, from FE:A we would get characters like Henry, Owain, Morgan, Nah, Cynthia, etc.
A lot of folks suggested Anna for having character and being a mainstay. I would take that over Chrom or Lucina.

Okay, IF I get rid of playable boss character condition, and keep first condition; would you be okay with that?

Agreed. I will accept whatever variation of Ridley you suggest, but must hit the roster. Someone just needs to officiate, I guess?

Someone please save this and then force Terrell to change his avatar in 15 years when Sakurai finally shrinks Ridley down and makes him playable for Smash 8.

Nah, people will be too busy still crying about how Snake was cut to take me to task for it.

It would take away the charm and the purpose of the franchise.

This is coming from arguably the biggest Phoenix Wright fan on this site, by the way. :)

The charm of the franchise is that it's fun and silly. The original Smash 64 tv commercial with the happy music and the mascots beating each other up epitomizes it for me. I don't think just throwing in any character will work, but there are plenty of 3rd party characters who are iconic enough in their own right to fit in.

Its charming with Nintendo characters. The third party stuff is nice, but it is a Nintendo game, and I think there are very few third party characters that A. Have no "allegiance" to another system, B. Haven't been in another fighting game, and C. Would fit perfectly well in the Smash cast and with the Smash moveset.

Yet Snake got in despite all three :p

What other fighting game has Snake been in?

Just curious.

And regardless, I was absolutely stunned when they unveiled him for Brawl. The only way I could justify it was as sort of a favor to Kojima, since he and Sakuri are friends.

Yeah, I was surprised too. Snake just didn't fit whatsoever.

Snake was in DreamMix TV World Fighters alongside characters like Bomberman, Simon Belmont and Optimus Prime.

See, things like that are what happen when you just throw characters together :p

It feels like Namco is likely to get a character to me. Because of the items and other references.

Also, rewatched the inital reveal. Link still had his old Dash attack in that, so it's cool that it's been changed since then.

Do we think Layton is going to be in the game?

Or is there some complicated rights situation with Level-5?

Rights. Layton is technically a third party character, hence Layton Brothers on mobile and the upcoming Layton 7 on 3DS, iOS & Android (and possibly Wii U).

It's very unlikely he'll be in it. At most, he'll be an Assist Trophy.

nicee one prod

Cynthia is my favorite character in FE:A, but Lucina has her charm of having a completely single-minded focus that is easily distracted in arbitrary support convos.

Anyway, Lucy actually has somewhat of a shot and Cynthia doesn't. So I'll cross my fingers for Lucina. It's sure better than the cipher choice of Robin.

Fire Emblem is probably the only series left that I still cannot confidently pick that one character I expect or even want to see in. I feel Lucina's chances are as good as any other FE character. Her following is there ( I think lol) and her role and actions in Awakening basically ties everything together when you think about. I also agree that she does have charm and a confidence about her maybe more so than Chrom lol.

Gameplay-wise she would probably be heavily based off of Marth but there are many different ways they could implement her including a tag team with Chrom like some have mentioned. I have an idea where she/ (or even Chrom) would be able to switch between their Falcion and a Lance in battle. Each weapon having their own strengths and weaknesses. That would be pretty neat.

I think my favorite idea is the one you mentioned about tag teaming with Chrom. Not only does that rep Lucina, but it really epitomizes what makes Awakening stand out among other Fire Emblem games.

My fear is that Chrom will just get Ike's moveset, and they'll swap.

If anything Having Marth's Alt costume be Lucina and Ikes Alt Be Chrom is what I think is most likely at this point.

If Marth's Alt was Lucina
with the mask
, I think I'd still be okay with that because
when the announcer says "Marth", he kinda wouldn't be lying since she refers to herself as that while wearing the mask.

Well, Ike+Chrom+Marth is a lot of blue haired sword boys.
