Third party characters should be something special, not something that's cool but run of the mill
That's why Sonic and Mega Man are the perfect choices. They're iconic characters from the classic era. They're not just third party characters that have had a couple of recent hit games.
It would take away the charm and the purpose of the franchise. We don't?
With the exception of the HD trilogy remake & UMvC3, every game Wright was in was on a Nintendo system.Phoenix Wright would be amazing, and he's also heavily Nintendo based. I don't want that many third parties, but he'd be a good fit. Only other one I really want to see is Simon Belmont.

I said IF we got another Capcom character. Likewise, if we got another Sega character, I'd rather it be Bayonetta or Eggman, but that won't happen, either. As great as Phoenix is, he already got into a fighting game. And recently, too!
I'm pretty strongly of the opinion that it should be one character per third party company - any more would be pushing the bounds of the guest character definition. So no Amaterasu, no Phoenix Wright, no Viewtiful Joe, no Ryu, no Shadow, no Tails, no Eggman, no Simon Belmont. They can show up as third party Assist Trophies, but nothing more. Because I SAID SO.
Professor Layton for third party rep please Sakurai
Come to think of it, Bayonetta could be a neat Assist Trophy depending on how far they take the "third party assists" concept...I said IF we got another Capcom character. Likewise, if we got another Sega character, I'd rather it be Bayonetta or Eggman, but that won't happen, either.

Pyrosphere and extra background Ridley included.
As a Firebrand main, his Marvel incarnation is wholly underwhelming.Better than Ridley.
A lot of folks suggested Anna for having character and being a mainstay. I would take that over Chrom or Lucina. If we went for character, from FE:A we would get characters like Henry, Owain, Morgan, Nah, Cynthia, etc.
Okay, IF I get rid of playable boss character condition, and keep first condition; would you be okay with that?
Someone please save this and then force Terrell to change his avatar in 15 years when Sakurai finally shrinks Ridley down and makes him playable for Smash 8.
I feel this is the reason why Rayman isn't in Smash despite Ubisoft wanting him in.
So I was re-watching the Direct and I noticed something strange. It looks like Extremespeed is doing damage. I know I'm probably wrong though so I thought I'd verify with you guys.

Not me. I like Phoenix Wright, but unless the 3rd party character is a huge old school icon highly linked to Nintendo, I'd rather not have the character in Smash. We don't?
The charm of the franchise is that it's fun and silly. The original Smash 64 tv commercial with the happy music and the mascots beating each other up epitomizes it for me. I don't think just throwing in any character will work, but there are plenty of 3rd party characters who are iconic enough in their own right to fit in.
I'm looovin' Bowser's revamped move-set. He looks faster! Dunno about you guys, but it seems like a lot of his moves maybe were changed so a newcomer could have them? Hmm... Maybe not.
Its charming with Nintendo characters. The third party stuff is nice, but it is a Nintendo game, and I think there are very few third party characters that A. Have no "allegiance" to another system, B. Haven't been in another fighting game, and C. Would fit perfectly well in the Smash cast and with the Smash moveset.

I've theorized Ridley will be inheriting some of his old assets.
Yet Snake got in despite all three![]()
What other fighting game has Snake been in?
Just curious.
And regardless, I was absolutely stunned when they unveiled him for Brawl. The only way I could justify it was as sort of a favor to Kojima, since he and Sakuri are friends.
third party characters that deserve to be in:
megaman
sonic
james bond
pac-man
goku
snake
simon belmont
how about Naruto and/or Sasuke.
goku
Do we think Layton is going to be in the game?
Or is there some complicated rights situation with Level-5?

It's cute that you think that. Ha ha ha.
Obviously Wright won't get in, what with Mega Man, but I would've loved to see him in Smash.
There's a greater 3rd party presence in SSB4 than there is in the rest of the Wii U.

Cynthia is my favorite character in FE:A, but Lucina has her charm of having a completely single-minded focus that is easily distracted in arbitrary support convos.
Anyway, Lucy actually has somewhat of a shot and Cynthia doesn't. So I'll cross my fingers for Lucina. It's sure better than the cipher choice of Robin.

Fire Emblem is probably the only series left that I still cannot confidently pick that one character I expect or even want to see in. I feel Lucina's chances are as good as any other FE character. Her following is there ( I think lol) and her role and actions in Awakening basically ties everything together when you think about. I also agree that she does have charm and a confidence about her maybe more so than Chrom lol.
Gameplay-wise she would probably be heavily based off of Marth but there are many different ways they could implement her including a tag team with Chrom like some have mentioned. I have an idea where she/ (or even Chrom) would be able to switch between their Falcion and a Lance in battle. Each weapon having their own strengths and weaknesses. That would be pretty neat.
If anything Having Marth's Alt costume be Lucina and Ikes Alt Be Chrom is what I think is most likely at this point.
But wouldn't that require doing more voices? Which isn't impossible I guess...If anything Having Marth's Alt costume be Lucina and Ikes Alt Be Chrom is what I think is most likely at this point.
Alt costumes that actually change the character themselves are not my cup of tea, personally. If anything Having Marth's Alt costume be Lucina and Ikes Alt Be Chrom is what I think is most likely at this point.
Well, Ike+Chrom+Marth is a lot of blue haired sword boys.I think my favorite idea is the one you mentioned about tag teaming with Chrom. Not only does that rep Lucina, but it really epitomizes what makes Awakening stand out among other Fire Emblem games.
My fear is that Chrom will just get Ike's moveset, and they'll swap.
Man....having Simon Belmont Final smash be summoning all the Belmonts/playable characters from the past to attack would be amazing.
But wouldn't that require doing more voices? Which isn't impossible I guess...
I don't think WFT will talk so changing sex might not matter.
