Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

I appreciate your posts like this.

But also, I felt it needed to be pointed out: Diddy's rocket barrels don't seem to launch off into random directions -- the barrels stick together on the backpack and it just flies off as one whole hitbox instead of two barrels flying off in two directions. Much better design, in terms of a recovery. Less chance of getting hit by the a lone barrel, at least, and also less randomness (which is seemingly a trend in some of Sakurai's changes to characters that had random elements).

RIP stitchfaces

:P

He's most likely dashing along the platform as it flies above Skyloft and tilts to give an aerial view of the island.

And speaking of Pit, and by extension Kid Icarus, I am SO PUMPED and SO READY to see Palutena in action. The constant leaks and contextual clues, along with her credentials, make it painful that she hasn't been revealed yet.

Yeah, it is becoming so obvious that she's going to be playable character, so I really hope that she would be one of starter newcomer, so it might give me a very small hope for third uprising representative (more likely to be clone) but I seriously doubt we would. I would be pleased with only Palutena.

Random suggestion for an Assist Trophy: Eggplant Wizard, or better yet, Tempura Wizard. The latter turning you into tempura, of course, and then chasing you around trying to eat you. :-)

Many people have been clamoring for that, so I think it's possible tho.

This is something that I put together.

These are stages that I'd like to see in SSB Wii U and 3DS (not counting the confirmed Halberd and Jungle Japes). The Wii U get's 12 past stages, and the 3DS gets 9 past stages.

They are my personal choices, which ones would you like to see return?

I'm trying to figure out which stage would greatly represented F-Zero, Big Blue or Mute City. Also I would like Sakurai to take a second attempt to Brinstar Depth concept for a new stage.

Does anybody know if the stage builder will return? I've noticed with the little bit of attention I've been paying to Smash that it hasn't been mentioned yet :( That was one of my favorite parts of Brawl and it added greatly to the multiplayer re-playability for me and my pals. I would like to see it improved, but they could just leave it as it was (perhaps with an improved hosting system for stage designs).

When this image was posted, there was some speculation that it was a stage that had been modified in the stage builder. That's all I know.

What's the name of the Fire Emblem song in the Direct, that plays when the Tiki trophy is revealed? It plays right before the FE theme, and it's not Tiki's theme, so I'm just curious because it sounds good.

Also, I'm hyped, and this is my 3rd time watching the Direct lol. Beats watching TV for me lol.

That's confirmed to be part of Palutena's Temple so no it's not a stage builder stage (the two items there are in the stage by default). They were lazy and chose to use the spring model from the stage builder for that particular stage.

So as of now stage builder is still MIA.

I thought your speculation was spot on until I noticed that Mario's slide seems to go on way farther than previous games. It's like a grounded Sex Kick.

It seems to me like Pit's new Down Special works like Olimar's whistle in that he can take a hit upon activation and not be sent flying. It's a pure reflector with no stand alone damage output.
It does look like it goes a bit further.

Thanks. I noticed that as well before but didn't realize I didn't mention it. Will add it to the post.

And yea, it does seem like Sakurai is reducing the randomness and reworking or taking out things that aren't reliable.

Nitpicking:
  • She's the namesake of perhaps the largest stage between the two versions, Palutena's Temple, and the stage even sports a statue bearing her image
The stage is called "Angel Land" in Japan and "Skyworld" in Europe. And the Skyworld stage in Brawl had a Palutena statue as well.

You forgot to mention that Pit no longer uses Palutena's shield.
Pit has never used Palutena's shield, the Mirror Shield and the shield Palutena holds are two different shields. And Pit still uses the Mirror Shield in his final smash.

I am a firm believer in Palutena's chances, but both listed above are erroneous.

And a random aside:

Random suggestion for an Assist Trophy: Eggplant Wizard, or better yet, Tempura Wizard. The latter turning you into tempura, of course, and then chasing you around trying to eat you. :-)
If the Tempura Wizard gets in before Eggplant Wizard I am revolting. Fuck that copycat. OG or no one.

The final chapter theme from Awakening.

Boy, I'm really looking forward to Charizard as his own character. Unlike most heavies, he was always really fun to play. Sucked that I always had to deal with squirtle and ivysaur in order to get to him.

The selling points are that I can play it at 4x the rez of the 3ds version on a bigass tv with my friends.
"Sakurai : Oh, I said no SSE 2? It's releasing 4 months after the 3DS version for a reason!"

I'm fine with a Melee-like adventure mode btw.

No more constant switching because of the stamina will be so good.

Thanks! Been a while since I've played that game lol.

Also.

The online portion of the Direct reminded me. For those hoping to play online a lot and don't have one of these yet, I HIGHLY recommend this Ethernet Adapter. Works really well and I have zero issues with it.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00484IEJS/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1Y0LG95MT30C8&coliid=IT3TUA61Q4C3G

As far as Ethernet Cables go, I have an incredibly long one lol. I don't remember where I got it, but I'm gonna guess I just took from my parents when I moved out. Finding a long one shouldn't be hard at all though, Amazon seems to have plenty.
I know this is a bit premature, but there's nothing wrong with preparing your bodies early.

EDIT: I really hope that song is in the game.

I need to ask why is Hyrule from Melee so loved? My friends request to play on that stage so much and I always loathe it. It's just such an odd stage in my opinion.

It's good for having fun because it's so big and varied. The scenarios that play out can be pretty crazy. People jumping off sides of the stage to join the bottom battle. Item wars. People surviving to really high HP. It's the sand box style, fuck-it-all stage. My favorite stage in the franchise. I hope we see it coming back and more stages like it.

With randomization being reduced, what do you think are the chances of Peach and DDD still being able to throw out items?

Also, if it's back would you like it as is (about 1/300 chance of picking a bob-omb), or would you like some other method of pulling it out (Say, a just frame input that pulls it out but has an extra long tugging animation).

All my friends who care about Smash own a 3DS, and we'll have been playing online for months by the time the Wii U version comes out.

I think that was confirmed to be a kid icarus stage in the direct.

Hmm, yeah that does look extremely basic, as though it were designed in the stage builder. Note especially the lack of any place-relevant shading on the spring and the spike ball thing. Hope is still alive!

Yeah, my memory is bad. Ctrl+F "Revven".

It's basic because it has to be; the level's huuuge, so each area has to be simple geometry wise

No predictions, but if Nintendo is smart they will not have a Smash section. Instead, Smash trailers of new characters should intermittantly interrupt the presentation. Just spread the love throughout. It will keep the audience hype and guessing. At least 4 trailers, but preferably 8.
Haha, I had a dream last night and that is how to it went down.

One started with a camera panning up Captain Falcon's body revealing him, he then jumped into the Blue Falcon and shooted off with a remix of Big Blue playing. He then crashed into Pac-Man and started shouting "Show your moves" and Pac-Man showed what moves he had.

Take that with a grain of salt though.

I don't think you have to tell us to take your dreams with a grain of salt.
...I mean, someone will take it as a hint, but I hope most of us won't.

Wait, the Blue Falcon is blue...what if Pac-Man mistook him for a ghost?!

nah, Falcon reveal tonight!

j/k

Ha, I was reading this post just as Gamexplain was talking about it in their new discussion.

I feel like she's almost 100% a sure-thing. It makes way too much sense
I agree with their assessments except for Mewtwo and ROB.

For Mewtwo, their opinions on his chances are based on the incorrect assumption that he was replaced by Lucario. As we all know, he was intended to be in Brawl, but due to the last minute work that Sonic needed to be in the game, he was cut for time constraints. Knowing this, there is NO WAY he isn't in Smash 4. Sakurai will not cut a character he intended to have in Brawl.

As for ROB, I need everyone to state the single example so far of a completely unique character being cut. That's right, there is only one, Mewtwo, due to the aformentioned time constraints surrounding Sonic's inclusion. All other characters who were cut between Melee and Brawl were clones. ROB will be in the game, guaranteed.

Isn't Mother's Day in Japan just a commercial holiday?

Which is even more fitting!

Well there's only 3 Smash Bros games, and only 1 of which that cut anything, so it's really not enough to draw any solid conclusions from imo. Plus Brawl was really the only time they even had the opportunity to cut characters, since the core cast are all basically essential.

With that said, I do hope Rob returns.

I'd love to see Shulk period. Anyone else is just icing on the cake

Same here, I'd be happy with anybody, but I feel Xenoblade really deserves to become a widely recognized Nintendo franchise via Smash just like Earthbound and Fire Emblem before it. I'm just worried NOA won't bother reaching across the pond to get the same VA.

  • The Pseudo-Palutena trophy fake-out in the Direct was clearly meant to lure us into thinking, "Oh, she'll just be a trophy," only to surprise us with her demented doppelganger
  • She's the namesake of perhaps the largest stage between the two versions, Palutena's Temple, and the stage even sports a statue bearing her image
  • Pit had his Final Smash changed from Palutena and the Centurions to the Three Sacred Treasures, freeing up Palutena to be a playable character
  • The screenshots leaked of her character in the 3DS version have still not been debunked, and remain just as convincing now as they were before
  • She's listed on the second Gematsu list, from the same leaker who leaked Villager, Wii Fit Trainer and Mega Man right before E3 (as well as confirming Little Mac, and a Pokémon from XY that turned out to be Greninja; also on the list: Mii, Pac-Man, Shulk, Chrom, and Chorus Men)
  • She is super-qualified, being the namesake of the series in Japan (effectively the "Zelda" to Pit's "Link"), and she played a huge role all throughout Uprising, had an entire move-set to herself (and could wield other powers, like summoning Centurions and conjuring up grind-rails), and she was a huge part of Uprising's marketing presence, appearing in the game's interior case art, in its anime shorts that promoted its release, and even in a massive parade float they rolled out in Japan

The other peculiar thing being that in all the new assist trophies shown, we haven't gotten a single KI one yet. He's being very coy about it for sure!
