Actually, according to the US Patent and Trademark Office, The Tetris Company owns the trademark for Korobeiniki when used digitally in a video game. Therefore Nintendo did require legal permission to use the song.

From what I read in other forums is that he was attention-seeker but who know? One of Brawl leaker were obsessed Peach fanboy, and no one believe him because of his attention seeking behavior, along with his obsession with Peach's butt. When he posted the spoilers, and no one believe him until people realized that he was telling the truth. That's what I heard. I do remembered his antic with peach but him being attention seeker, not really.

When given numbers, people will try to fit characters into those numbers. You won't be able to reasonably assume anything.

Then there are even more numbers which are the 4 characters are cut thing. Sakurai probably won't be able to tell until the last stages of development.

Well, I don't think he's making up the rumor (or his source is.)

There are two red flags in his comments. He said that the number could change, which is an easy way out if final number isn't 48. Also he said 4 cuts; usually the cut wouldn't happens until end of the development which is in few months depend on release date.

I'm pretty sure that most of us already see 48 numbers being final number coming from few miles away.

If I had to pick 4 characters as seeming likely, I'd guess PT, Snake, Lucas, and one star fox guy.

Lucas was my main and would break my heart.

Choosing not to believe this rumor because I strongly dislike the idea of pacman in smash. All of his personified versions are hideous. Somehow any mention of pacman in smash feels more out-of-place to me than including snake did. I know that makes no sense at all.


edit: Mind blown wrt "sakurai counts transformations as separate." I had forgotten. Makes sense.... the only shared "asset" between the 3 pokemon forms is the down-b move + fatigue timer.

My guess (& I feel sorry for Sakurai) is that Nintendo will want to with or without him and he will fold because he will want it to be done right.

Good for us, bad for poor Sakurai, since he doesn't like revisiting things and Iwata basically has him by the balls. Sucks to be a tortured creative genius.

Link, Zelda are definitely TP. Shiek just has her design when she was considered for Twilight Princess before being cut from said game.

I'm pretty sure Ganondorf will remain TP, said design is just too badass. I just hope he gets a new moveset.

I see this written everywhere and while I agree with you for this iteration of smash, as time progresses Jigglypuff's relevancy to the franchise continues to wane. Ive never seen or heard any special rule regarding the original Smash 64 characters that they will never be cut.

I know that it's probably fake, but for the sake of this scenario I was assuming the latest Gematsu leak contained all of the remaining newcomers. Mewtwo's a veteran, so he'd fit into that last spot.

Hmmm I think I see what they are getting at here.

Look at the image in the clouds. The first obvious choice would be to say "Pac-Man", but that is only what Sakurai WANTS you to think. In reality, its a clever misdirection that hints at the true next character that will be revealed.

So what else is that shape? Pie Charts. And where are pie charts used frequently? In business meetings. Now based on the structure of the pie chart, we can determine one area has a lot of something, and the other has a little. Obviously, this is referring to the sales of something, and the excessive area indicates it was expected to be big, but did not meet expectations due to the smaller part. So Nintendo usually has special Nintendo Directs for certain games they predict to be at least big enough, so what games got a Direct and didn't sell well? Obviously, its the Wonderful 101. Therefore, we know that this image for a fact confirms, that Wonder Red, is indeed in the game.
