Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

Do people really expect 50+ characters for this game?

I always assumed Snake, Meta Knight, and Wolf would be cut, perhaps along with a few others.

I remember reading last year that Sakurai wanted to keep the roster to around ~35 to ensure that each character was properly balanced.

Gadzooks where does this low roster stuff come from? I remember what Sakurai said it wasn't that. New characters are the big draw and Sakurai knows the veterans have their fans, this roster is going to be loaded.

Expecting Meta Knight to be cut is like expecting to find Godot.

My stance on what characters are less likely/not going to get cut, outside of obvious ones such as Mario or Link:

-If you were in the original Smash64. I think if you've been in every Smash game, you'll continue to be in every Smash game.
-If you are from a game that Sakurai has created. He's the say-how guy, and it's not a bad thing, but obviously he has love for characters he helped shape and create, like Kirby or now Pit. Why I also knew Dedede and certainly Meta Knight won't be cut.
-If you have a unique moveset that panders to unique and quirky. That's why I think characters like Game&Watch, Ice Climbers, and the like returned
-If you have the capacity to use a Landmaster..

Hey man you can't avatar quote yourself.
I'm sure that;s illegal on GAF.

As for that second-to-last point, that didn't save Mewtwo and likely won't save Squirtle and Ivysaur. =(

So what's the consensus on Smash dropping Falco, Wolf, Ganondorf, Jigglypuff, and Ice Climbers?

Personally, I think Dorf is the only one who is going to make it.

Only ones not coming back are squirtle and ivysaur imo.

The rest will probably return

Metaknight is not getting cut. Ever.

  • Metaknight is one of the three main Kirby characters and has the most playable appearances after Kirby himself. Not including him would be silly, especially since...
  • Dedede was already confirmed, and Metaknight is just as important.
  • Metaknight was the most popular tournament character in Brawl by a landslide. Most casual players love him too. No reason to drop him over less popular characters.
  • Kirby is one of Nintendo's most most widespread and profitable series, with 23 games and over 30 million sales. When people argue a series like fucking Star Fox deserves three characters, Kirby definitely does.
  • The Kirby franchise is Sakurai's baby. He's shown remarkable restraint with his creations in Smash, but anyone thinking he'll remove one of them is batshit.
And the joy of being the smallest and 3rd heaviest character in the game...and having surprisingly decent speed.
Snake's heavier than Ganondorf.

Kojima must be one hell of a bro.

You're crazy. Wolf is the only one of those characters with any chance of being cut.
Why do you think Wolf has a better chance of being cut than Falco?

They're both hilariously unimportant.

Nobody really expected more than 50 until the past Direct brought back both Sheik and Zero Suit Samus with the stipulation that any returning transformation/swap characters were getting split up. Since Brawl was looked at as a basis for the character roster of Smash 4, we thought 35 + 10 to 15 more characters was a good guesstimate. Since we have to bump up the number to count the individual characters (39) versus the unique "slots", 10 to 15 newcomers puts the game in the 49 - 54 range. Now, if you expect some ungodly amount of characters (55+), then I'd say you're believing in a far more unlikely situation.

Those characters listed are also questionable. Metaknight's a mainstay just because he's iconic within the Kirby universe and has a distinct play style. Wolf is a villain for one of the more popular franchises represented within Smash and also plays with a distinct feral style versus his contemporaries. Snake is the most questionable only because no one knows (or will know) what's up with him until launch day.

As for the "Sakurai wants around 35 tops" line, I'm very curious to see where that came from.

Did we play the same Brawl?

I also will add that Sakurai working on Kid Icarus is one of the reasons I think there will be a second Kid Icarus representative. Palutena is the most obvious choice, but I'm almost certain there's going to be a second Kid Icarus representative since they had a new game, Sakurai was heavily involved in it, and it was received well. Honestly, if Sakurai wasn't involved I'd have bigger doubts.

But I think Jigglypuff and Captain Falcon are in, even if they haven't been relevent for a while because they've been in every Smash game since the original. (Personal believer that all who were in Smash64 will be in every Smash game)

Everyone thinks everyone will be cut

When the 3DS version comes out, people will start thinking characters will be cut from the Wii U version
Nah. It will be all about the rumored exclusive characters even though Sakurai said it won't happen.

I think that if Sakurai does things right, he will add 4 or so more between the versions. Free on Wii U, $3 per character on 3DS. :)

Because Falco will never be cut from Smash Bros. He is far too popular as a fighter, and if he was ever going to be cut, he would have been cut from Brawl.

Chrom's gimmick to differentiate himself will be the ability to woo any of the female fighters, which will then unlock Lucina, who's appearance and moveset will change based on the mother.

So...it'll be Dog?

look at that diversity of Fire Emblem reps :P

Pretty much one of the biggest reasons why I feel nothing but dread for a Chrom inclusion (sorry fans). That and in every scenario I can think of that leads to him getting in, either Ike gets robbed, cool females from the FE series get robbed, or anyone without blue hair and a sword from FE gets robbed.

:P

Is there any way to make those collision bubbles for painful for my eyes? :/ I'm having aneurysms here.

Well, I should have said "remarkable restraint with character choices".

Fuck Metaknight.

I understand he's popular and unlikely to be cut.

I don't understand why people think Wolf is more likely.

Anyways, my mains in Brawl are already confirmed, so I'm more interested to see what the roster might be and secretly hoping for a 48-50 character roster (We're at 29 right now, it could happen!).

But I still am far more interested at this point in stages. We've had a lot of items revealed, a lot of characters, but actually very few stages. There are far more items than there were Brawl that are already confirmed, looks like there will definitely be more characters, but stages we know dreadfully little on.

Brawl had over 40 stages, and right now we know 15 stages for the 3DS version, and 14 for the WiiU version (and these two numbers include Battlefield and Final Destination). Outside of music, it's the thing they've been the most hush-hush on.
