Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

Ugh. As soon as I realized that I turned it off. The Wii U classic controller is probably my least used Nintendo controller ever. It is ok for NES and SNES games but doesn't work at all as an N64 controller. I guess I'll just wait until they finally (read never) bring Wii U support to N64 games.

I bought one for Brawl. I thought it was just okay.

Hopefully the Wii U Pro controller feels better to me.

It looks like I overestimated the perversity of the Pokemon fanbase.

The best thing that the Smash Bros team could do for Glory Mode would be to have a toggle in the settings that would allow choosing how many platforms you have on the stage.

Being able to choose between having none, one, two, or three platforms arranged appropriately on For Glory would alleviate alot of concerns people are having with that mode. Then you could have your Battlefield and your Final Destination and anything in between.

I really hope they consider doing this.

Odds are most tournaments held online will be done in the For Fun option with the items turned off and with standard stage selection rules.

Well of course they will. For Glory isn't available to organize a tournament in, it's solely for online random battles. To that end, tournaments won't use For Fun either, since it's ALSO solely for online random battles. These are just game modes within game modes within game modes. They're coin battles and point battles. For all the jimmies they're rustling, they have virtually nothing to do with how any non-anonymous non-online battles will play out.

Man this thread can be weird sometimes :P

Also can we get DaBoss a tag or something for his work? His posts have been the best posts in this thread by far :)

Seriously

I've never used Pokemon-Amie. Is there an online component through which Nintendo can track stats? Was there some sort of online poll through which Greninja won? I don't doubt the results, I'm just curious how they were generated. Where did you see them?

Three random players you passby, or friends, have their Pokémon come onto yours. If you have a PokéPuff, they'll all eat it and you'll get a decoration.

The statistics are also sent via GameSync, just like everything else. X & Y track literally everything you do. Good way to track down hacks, if you have something that doesn't match the log.

Did anyone else like Spear Pillar as much as I did? I was playing Brawl yesterday because the Direct has hyped me up so much and this stage clicks with me so well.

I highly doubt we'll see it return though since I've never heard anyone say they care for it. So that brings me to a question. Do you think we'll get a stage builder that's competent enough to recreate a stage like this? As in breaking platforms, stage hazards, etc.

I love that stage so much since it was fun to playing with friends. I never had any problem with backward or upside down since I guess I'm pretty used to it.

Yeah, the upside down thing is what annoyed me. Kind of sad to see that this effect returns with both Pokémon and assist trophies.

Would be nice if we could choose which appear (minus the rare ones like Mew).

Yep, best stage in Brawl.

I liked the stage too, but doubt we'll see it again, as the Pokemon that feature in Spear Pillar (too out of the loop with Pokemon to know their names) were seen in the newest trailer to be able to come out of Pokeballs.

I'm hoping for an expansion on the Stage Builder honestly, but no idea what they will choose to add to it. My biggest hope really is to be able to play stage builder stages online with friends.

I think the best thing would be to have every "Final Destination" version be different with a different platforms, stage boundaries, etc, and just change the name. Everyone is happy.

I didn't hate Spear Pillar as much as most. It was fun trying to figure out the controls before other people did when it flipped. I don't think it'll come back as one of the Pokemon is confirmed to be coming from a Pokeball. Unless Alfonzo steps in.

You meant like Item Toggle? I wish we had it in Brawl so I could turn Bonsly, Gulpin and Munchlax off.

I'm sure this topic has been well discussed in the past, but to what extent are you all worried about the size of the characters on the 3DS screen? Today's picture provides a good measuring stick:

To me this is about as zoomed out as I would ever want the action to get, and yet this merely represents a normal scenario of two players on opposite sides of final destination (you know what I mean). With 4-players going at it, this would be a totally normal camera perspective on this level.

Obviously we aren't going to see any Hyrule Temple style levels on the 3DS version but, to me, the image above indicates that the levels are all going to skew very small.

You seem to be assuming that the game will be balanced in the same way as the previous ones, which isn't necessarily the case. If they actually balanced the characters for the Glory mode, rather than just slapping it on at some point of the development, that wouldn't be a problem.

"actually balanced"
That would be a first.

Greninja was probably chosen for the roster and finalized as a character before X/Y even came out. I don't think his popularity in Amie has anything to do with it. :-)

Loved that stage

I don't even want that stage back exactly, but some sort of double decker stage would be so great

Exactly my thoughts. Palkia is shown to flip the stage upside down. I personally just hope if there is a stage builder, it is better than Brawls. The beams of energy were good stage hazards for Spear Pillar, imo, because they gave you ample time to dodge/block them. The flipping upside down part never pissed me off that much, but I understand why it might for some people. The time slow was also pretty cool but I suspect Dialga will do this when coming out of a pokeball/masterball, plus that watch item may also return.

Also I agree that the double decker aspect is something I really enjoy about the stage.

Nothing more irritating than broad statements, that are stated as some kind of fact, then a quick "... it's my opinion, though" statement after someone says something about it, to you.

I never stated anything as any kind of fact. You're just sore that someone has a different opinion about something (a video game, no less!) than you do. It's a big, wide world out there, dude. That's going to happen a lot. Best get used to it now so you can bray less about it the next time it does!

If it helps, here: you have my blessing to go on enjoying Project M's stages all you want. My opinion that they and tournament "legal" (ahaha) stages are deliriously boring and dull in no way invalidates your opinion that they're the bee's knees. Conflicting opinions can coexist!

Feeling less stressed out about our differing viewpoints now?

I did. It was one of my favorite stages. The hazards weren't so bad either since they were easy to overcome. My only issue was the screen flipping and slow motion were annoying at times, but I'd be lying if I said the stage wasn't a blast for those reasons. As much as I'd love to see it return, I doubt it. I wouldn't mind another double decker stage in it's place.

My friends and I adore Spear Pillar! One of our favorite stages in Brawl, to be sure. The upside down/inverted hazards are really fun to play with once you know how to deal with them. It's really funny playing against people who don't, too. I'd love to see it return, though I'm fairly sure it won't. :(

I didn't like Palkia. Other than that the stage was fine. If Palkia showed up we usually just left.

There are two additions I'd like to see in the Stage Editor that should be relatively simple:

The option to feature 'running off' type edges, rather than always the platform ones. Also, stages ending right in the custom stage bounds, without extra space bellow.

Also, more background options. It was really odd in Brawl how the custom backgrounds were only 2d pictures, and yet they only gave the player 3 options, rather than making every generic 2d background in the game available there at least. They also easily could have added 2d pictures of 3d backgrounds too. I guess part of it is that the piece's "style" was automatically associated with the background - so, 3 themes, 3 backgrounds. But, if the background is just going to be a 2d picture, it seems kind of silly to do that.

Of course, more hazards, unique types of pieces and other things would be welcome too, but those two things seem to be relatively simple and could add a lot more personality to some custom stages, so their absence is annoying.

To me this is about as zoomed out as I would ever want the action to get, and yet this merely represents a normal scenario of two players on opposite sides of final destination (you know what I mean). With 4-players going at it, this would be a totally normal camera perspective on this level.

Isn't that camera more zoomed out than it'd actually be if two players stood at that distance though? But, yeah, it's an obvious issue with the 3ds version, and likely one of the reasons each version has exclusive stages, since the 3ds ones need to be smaller.
