Yeah. It definitley looked that way to me. I would almost not be surprised if Squirtle and Ivysaur were also playable just because those assets are readily available.
Well, Mother 3 did come out in 2006 so I'd say that it's fairly recent. The franchise is pretty unique and a key to Nintendo's history so I don't think we'll see him removed. I'd say there's a higher chance of getting an additional rep rather than minus one.
How was he the cloniest? I've played both Ness and Lucas and they almost play nothing alike.

BUUUUUUUT.... Lucas and Ness actually play really differently, as do Link and Toon Link. I'd hazard a guess you don't play as either character very often. Toon Link and Lucas are two of my go tos, and Ness and Link I don't really enjoy playing as much.
Like I said earlier, I do understand the logic behind cutting him, but I feel there are an equal number of reasons to keep him, not the least of which is that a lot of the work is already done if they used Brawl as a starting point.
As to your last two points :
- Lucas is boring to you, I love him. Personal preference.

So the leaked roster includes the Choir Men from Rhythm Heaven. Today's Miiverse comment is a direct line from what the Choir Men say in the DS game, yet no one is talking about it? D:

I have full faith in the leak, of course if its fake then fine, besides Palutena, Choir Men, and Mii I'd rather have other characters. But it just seems likely to me. Of course, I still expect it to not be the whole roster, after all the trolling, I expect Ridley to be in and one more DK/Wario/Yoshi character to make 50 characters and have the roster menu line up like in Brawl.

Charizard appears to literally have exactly the same model as from Brawl, with just a cleaner texture.

Not really. Geno is in sticky situation with being third-party character, and Takamaru isn't. Lately they have been putting him into three recently games.

Yeah, I've been hoping that all the Brawl veterans return, but I don't know if I really believe that given a significant number were cut in the Melee-Brawl transition... anyone know how many from Melee failed to appear in Brawl, off the top of their heads? If not, I can just look it up...

Because people seem to be hung up on 48 characters 4 cuts rumor lately so I guess they are trying to figure out who are the 4 cuts other than Ivysaur and Squirtle.

I'm fine with Smash 5 re-using every single model with some touch-ups. There's no reason to arbitrarily change models when you can boost the roster further instead.

Sorry, but you can't have that be compared. Mewtwo and Lucario don't share anything besides a similiar looking projectile.
Wolf has the B specials moves the same as of Fox/Falco, just work differently. Just as it was said before with Shotos. They're basically that.

All the conductor says in Rhythm Heaven is "together now." I think the comment is actually a direct line from Wii Fit.

All of their specials are near identical in appearance. Their jumps have the same animation. Their forward smash is the same animation. Lucas is Ness with blonde hair. Their voices are very similar. Everything about him reminded me more of Roy or Ganondorf and not Falco or Luigi as far as cloneiness goes.
They may work very different mechanics wise, but to the onlooker or casual player, they are basically the same character.
Lucas' situation reminds me a lot of Melee->Brawl cut characters. Generally they weren't popular, or they weren't visually different enough or popular enough to really stand out. Had Falco not been as popular as he was in Melee, I almost guarantee he would have been cut.

Nearly year ago, someone spotted that Takamaru's game got review and rated by Australian Classification Board.
I guess they are waiting for right time to reveal Takamaru's new game to be ready for the announcement then they would release Virtual Console version for people in western to warming up to the game.
Maybe we will hear something about the game at E3.

Seems like a guess since Ivysaur and Squirtle weren't shown in the Pokemon trailer as playable characters and it's more than likely Snake isn't returning.
The point is that Lucario is called a Mewtwo clone for sharing two moves (forward smash I also very similar) and Wolf is called a Fox clone for sharing four.
Pokemon fans often have terrible taste. I'm just glad the most popular one this time isn't a blue Goku wolf.
I wonder why Sakurai didn't just announce cuts during the direct? I guess there is a small chance that the game can be delayed to add them, but the Pokemon trailer indicates Squirtle and Ivysaur are out cause I can't see him doing another Pokemon announcement after that blowout trailer. Which why there was no veteran Pokemon reveal possibly.
It's not a direct quote, but it's pretty close to "Now, let's do it together." I'd guess that he was quoting the Japanese version of Wii Fit and the translator didn't catch that.
It's not a direct quote from the conductor in Glee Club, anyway.

Binacle and by extension its evolution are absolutely inspired designs, perfect in their strangeness considering their real life inspiration. One of the only 'Multiple of one Pokemon' type designs that I actually like in the entire series, with an extremely creative end-point in Barbaracle who isn't even a hivemind like many of these Pokemon but just a bunch of Binacle goofily trying to cooperate.

Hopefully we do see a new Takamaru game and he does get in Smash. I think the character is unlikely, but he seems like he could have a lot of personality and his game music is DIVINE.

They are okay, ugly as shit though. Its not the concept though that people look at. Its how they actually LOOK.
Marshal and Chorus Men are not the same characters. In fact a Chorus Man appears in another Beat the Beat game.
One of the best things about Binacle/Barbacle is that Nintendo got their style of fighting perfect. Barnacles in real life have incredibly sharp shells.
Hoping we get another barnacle Pokemon. Maybe a Steel/Water whale covered in barnacle armor, since acorn barnacles often attach to whales (although in real life the whales don't appreciate then).

Lucas better not be cut. You can't just go and cut one of the two individually unique MOTHER characters when Star Fox of all franchises gets three characters.
I'm still of the opinion that the only cuts we'll see are Ivysaur and Squirtle (and maaaayyyybe Snake) anyway. If Toon Link is staying I can't see Sakurai cutting any characters from Brawl unless he has to.

There's ugly animals in real life. In Pokemon as of late there's mostly just adorable little shitheads, craggly stoic veteran warrior creatures, and things I either own or don't want to own, but with faces. That Binacle retains its inspiration's ugliness is a profound boon in my book over the legion of cute little giant eyed line mouth creatures that infest the series post Gen-IV/Sugimori's apprentices

I have to agree. Lucas and Ness play pretty differently, in my opinion. They share a similar style, sure, there are both kids and they are both psychics, but there movesets are very different.
I think Lucas is going to stay, I just think he'll be one of the last to be revealed.
