Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

I feel like the final smash should be huge and happen not every game. The fact that it was possible to have a smash ball appear, you kill everyone, fight for another minute and then another one appears is what killed it for me in brawl. Hopefully they get those fixed, i think smashes should not be happening that often.

Yeah, it should feel special and rare and semi-difficult to achieve like a super move, since most are so devastating. Considering the name of the game is balance focus this time around and Namco is on board, I hope it means that item balance is a big consideration as well, especially since the game has always been balanced with 4 players, items, & stage hazards in mind. In Sakurai we trust.

It all really comes down to proportions. Bowser is thick and fat and easy to scale very small without losing details or looking ridiculous.

Ridley is very thin and might look incredibly awkward scaled down.

Using small characters to try and reverse the argument is really bad. It's entirely different scaling up than scaling down.

Someone with clout in the competitive community should start a #BattlefieldForGlory social media campaign and petition so that Sakurai and Nintendo get wind of it.

I don't have time, I don't play smash competitively, and I'm not well known on the internet, so I'm definitely not qualified to do any of it. I *DO* know that final destination favors certain fighters over others when smash is played competitively, so if someone *CAN* make #BattlefieldForGlory a real thing, sooner than later, that'd be nice.

I want Sakurai and team to realize people care about this *BEFORE* the Wii U version is out (and maybe it's too late!). A combination of fans demanding for it, and possibly a select handful of characters bubbling up to the top on 3DS, while other characters don't even come close might make them realize that adding battlefield can help balance.

A reminder that the Chorus Kids are adorable and worth including:

Thank you.

Still maintain that Glee Club would be much better as a final smash for a character with a more generally RH-oriented background like Marshal.

Smash Balls really were way too common, to the point where they were usually turned off whenever i'd play with items. They needed to be a lot more rare.

Item setting rates would be really cool. Even more so if we could set Pokeball and Assist Trophy rates (no more Goldeen! :D).

cant u do that in brawl.

To be honest here I think the Chorus Men would be cool but I still get the feeling like looking at them as a character I would so much rather have the 3 guys from Ouendan instead.

Ridley's tail has always been the biggest thing that I felt would screw him from being playable
That doesn't really screw him from being possible, that's just another thing you have to balance around.

Ridley's not that lanky; in Other M he practically looks like he's on steroids.

Seriously, a tiny Ridley was in the Melee opening and looked fine. Fuck up with the "he's too big" arguments and use a better one like "he doesn't really add anything interesting to the cast because we already have charizard."

And this is a model that was made to be a big boss, they could edit him to make him fit player size better.

You could set ALL items to low, but if you have smash balls and say, metamatoes, there was still like a 50% chance that the next item would be a smash ball.

It would be nice to say spawn smash balls 10% of the time, dragoons 10% of the time, and like... food 80% of the time.

Ridley's tail has always been the biggest thing that I felt would screw him from being playable

It can just not be a part of his hotbox. I saw someone mention it before but the ideal situation to me for a playable Ridley is to have him be hunched over with wings and tail retracted close to his body on the ground but when he takes to the air, his tail and wings unfurl and become part of his hitbox. I also imagine mechanically, Ridley being a mix between Peach and Metaknight/Pit in the air with sustained hovering, gliding and 5 jumps with his weakness being such a large hitbox provided by his tail and wings and general mass.

Yeah every example of Ridley modded into the game has looked awkward at best. If anybody can make Ridley work, it's the team making smash bros, but I think making him look right is a bigger challenge than people are willing to admit

Ah, exhibit A...

I like how the smash balls are

It let's people up their kill count by a few in one go

It being rare would just make that one dude playing wario go up by abunch and leave everyone else screwed

That's probably because the models used in mods were designed for giant bosses.

Even if it was a big challenge, that being the only excuse making him unplayable is something that just screams lazyness to me. Here's a character that a big portion of the fanbase has wanted for years to be playable, but he won't be because it'll be too much work to make him look right? Are you kidding me? Make him DLC then I don't care, just make him playable. Something like that is possible now if he won't be ready by the time the game launches.

Ridley's neck is way too skinny on the Smash model no matter what size he is.

Meta Ridley looks a hell of a lot nicer.

I see what you did there.

Now, seriously, as much as I'd like a playable Ridley, I've got to aggree that given its size/proportions, he would look awkward as playable. But still, I'd rather have an awkward looking Ridley, than no Ridley.

The thing is, Ridley's supposed to look like a bird of prey, to contrast to the chozo's sage-like builds and Samus as their warrior. He's always going to look like a creepy buzzard.

Until you realize it's the Steam logo.

Gordon Freeman and HL3 demo confirmed for Smash

His large Adams apple means he'll be a tag team character with Adam Malkovich!

yeah, you're totally right. It's just a more effective look when he's towering over you in the metroid games.

Jesus, the Ridley schtick is really fucking old, people. Can we just stop that shit?
I think the next Metroid game should have Ridley as the main villain. It's crazy how he always seems to be second banana. Other M would make you think he's the main bad guy, but no, it's some blonde bimbo who thinks she's Mother Brain.

I agree with this, Meta Ridley looks better.
or at least cooler than naked Ridley

His neck is stupid no matter his size.
Is there a workout you can do to grow your neck muscles?

I have actually never noticed that, holy crap.

This is what I hope for. For those that know about Pokemon X/Y stat tracking, is it possible that Sakurai and Namco could implement that to get real time feedback on how well characters do in For Glory/For Fun? Invisible developer leader board, per se?

That would be incredible and help them make decisions on whether to change or tweak the balance for the Wii U version and possibly inform them on balance patches that could be retroactively applied to Sm4sh 3DS

All this Ridley talk, but nobody every remembers Kraid. :( Shooting nail belly thingies > flames

Can I point you to my post 5 above you? I think Kraid would be awesome as a character or boss, if we want Metroid representation why haven't the other bosses from Super Metroid/Metroid 1 even been talked about?

I still contest that the hardest part about Ridley is simply his inhuman-ness. (Almost) all of the other characters are human, humanoid, or controlled by/avatars of a human (like the Pokemon Trainer). Jigglypuff never seemed weird because she's such a good fit with the Kirby style of characters, and the Kirby characters never felt weird because... I don't know, reasons. Even if their proportions are inhuman, their actions aren't. They have conversations and act with emotion and intelligence.

Yoshi's stance change (which just seems unnecessary to me) is just one example of the team wanting characters to be as close to human/humanoid in appearance as possible.

Ridley, however, in all the Metroid games has been portrayed as decidedly animalistic in his appearance and actions.

I know he and all the space pirates are supposed to be an intelligent space-faring species, but he's always seemed just driven by instinct, like an animal, and I think that would make him feel disjointed next to the rest of the Smash Cast.

Is the Dragoon confirmed to be returning? I was never really a fan of that item, since once one part spawned every other item became more rare.

The best Metroid boss of all time deserves to be a boss in Smash.
