So Vita is the home of JRPGS?

Its really not. I dont get why people say that when all the jrpgs it has is Persona 4, FFX, and Atelier.

It doesnt have a single Vita-made jrpg. Well i guess Conception 2 is one.

The first exclusive jrpg its getting is Oreshika which is still a ways away

D3 Publisher's SIMPLE Series is finally coming to Vita as download-only titles. Both of them look like remakes of their original titles on PS2 and PSP.

Download-only is expected, but still disappointing. I miss the glory days of Simple 2000 games being released at retail. :( Surprised they've gotten HuneX to come back for the Mahjong remake; their character models are still pretty shit all these years later. You can barely even tell this is the same Riho from Dream Club. The original game on PSP was still pretty fun though~

That Tousou Highway remake looks great. Massive improvement over the PS2 game.

I know this is a bit late but, just picked up Muramasa Rebirth. This game runs so freaking smoothly and like the usual Vanalliaware game it looks pretty also.

better check that list again.

I have always been mildly interested in this game, but I always here about the back tracking.

Thats the problem with the jrpg definition.

I take it to mean traditional turn-based, party-based game with free exploration, defined characters, dramatical story, etc.

Demon Gaze and Sorcery Saga are dungeon crawlers, i wouldnt consider them jrpg, but thats me.

Fair enough. I think the term is a bit more malleable than what you stated, but like you said, that's the problem with defining a game as a JRPG.

Yes Ys Celceta does exist and is imo the best Vita game, but i'd define it as an action rpg.

Ugh, this just seems so silly, lets just call all rpgs made in japan jrpgs, who cares what subgenre they are in.

Exactly. It's an Action RPG made in Japan. An action RPG is still an RPG and it's made in Japan so it's a JRPG. Simple.

In the March NPD thread, Vita is barely existing at this point.

I'm just going to have to get Playstation Plus and get as many games as possible before they discontinue it.

I'm really pissed off. It's a great system with great games and I just freaking got this thing...

It's been like that forever. Just enjoy the continued Japanese and indie support.

I wouldn't take the discontinuation talk too seriously if I were you. It's mostly just NPD hysteria setting everyone off. They're launching the 2000 model in a few weeks, like 5 games just got announced for localization, and it's getting plenty of titles announced in Japan every week. It won't be discontinued any time soon.

I just hope Sony relaxes some of Vita's piracy measures (Online only CMA, memory card tied to account) and maybe reduce MC prices before they discontinue support.

Would love to drag n drop files, switch accounts effortlessly, and have cfw so i can play my Valkyie Profile Lenneth while not worrying about having to upgrade firmware

I love the support it's getting. (Love indies and JRPGs) that NPD thread has me worried ;__;

I am enjoying it very much

If you have different definitions from other people, maybe you shouldn't use it when, you know, you are talking to other people.

In Doran's defense, the definition JRPG is something people like to debate. Everyone has a different way of interpreting it.

Edit: Although as I stated earlier, I pretty much take ramyeon's stance on the whole thing.

They don't know that the Playstation brand is stronger than the Xbox, Nintendo, and Sega units combined.

As explicitly shown here.

It is weird because you can't get any more literal than Japanese RPG. I mean, it's an RPG that's Japanese.

Yeah thats true. Its just people have come to give it different meanings and definitions since the term is so broad and encompasses a whole range of games from all sorts of subgenres.

But in the end if its an rpg made in japan, the jrpg term applies to it.

For parity, I will say that I tend to agree with Doran -- JRPGs are games like Final Fantasy, Lost Odyssey, Chrono Trigger, etc. I wouldn't consider the a rogue-like (Sorcery Saga) or a dungeon crawler (demon gaze) JRPGs.

Much the same way I'd label Skyrim/Fallout as WRPGs but I wouldn't call either of them Action RPGs.

How I define JRPG:
Is the MC a teen or in early 20s?
Do they have anime eyes or hair or weird color?
Will there be a female teenager in your party?
Do characters wear outrageous/stylish or even cute clothing?
Big sword? Reallly big sword+flashy moves?

Yeah, JRPG.

I agree with this too. JRPG=Japanese RPG.
Pretty simple to me.

I mean defining JRPG as having a traditional turn based is so outdated. And also free exploration? With that limitation, I probably played less JRPG than I actually thought I played.
Probably need to throw away my Milia statue as well. It is a burden on my JRPG collection seeing her near the JRPG classics on my shelves.

Funniest thing is that JRPGs aren't even real rpgs as they are lacking the choice&consequence mechanisms.

I'm sure Demon Gaze and Conception II are good games in their own right but I'll never find out because stupid shit like this makes me not want to bother with any of that.
If you took away the perverted jokes and sexual innuendo from Conception II there'd be nothing left.

Everyone has a different definition of a JRPG and that's okay for me but if you define the genre that strictly it's not surprising that you think that the Vita doesn't have so many JRPGs.
In fact you could say that about any console after the PS2. Just take the 3DS for example which would have only 2 JRPGs (Bravely Default and DQVII) according to your definition (Etrian Odyssey = Dungeon Crawler, SMT 4 and SH = Dungeon Crawlers (?), Tales of the Abyss = Action RPG, KH 3D = Action RPG, Fire Emblem = SRPG)

For that reason it seems stupid to me that they're making the game a sequel.

Call me shallow but I'm not going to back the game for that reason only. >_>

Flying Hamster 2 just comes across as stupid, like some sort of cheap arse mobile game.

Wait, you're not backing a game because of its name?

Yeah, that about fits the bill for "shallow" as far as I'm concerned... :P

The 24 hour trophy is the last one I need in Break Quest, would occasionally knocking the Vita out of standby on a 30 minute timer be (close to) safe from burn in? On a boss level where the background changes color every 10 seconds.
