I think we'll get some veteran reveals for E3, for sure, especially if the newcomers belong to existing franchises where not all the veterans have been revealed yet.

I'm ok w/ captain falcon, jiggly, and ness remaining secret, assuming luigi was only revealed for 'year of luigi.' I'd bet luigi is still unlockable in-game, too, albeit early on.
The remaining veterans, however, might be revealed at E3, especially if they've had drastic moveset changes (like wario getting his charge attack as his side-b, for example)

Wasn't Wario's charge one of his smash attacks? I hope he doesn't give up his bike for that.

It was more like a shoulder tackle than his charge. It moved like an inch. Not a huge fan of the bike, personally. I didn't play him too much, but I felt like his moveset left a lot to be desired. Especially his extremely situational down B, which could only be used every now and then at full effect.

Alright, let's go with this. Bubblegum gun allows for projectiles that in addition to doing damage, could stick the character in place, allowing for Dixie to close in at high speeds from a safe distance, something that would make no sense for a peanut gun. Her hair, in addition to just whipping it around, and being used to carry things and grab people, can be used like a helicopter for a slow gentle descent, completely different from Diddy's rocket pack which is fast and explosive. There, that was like, a minute of thought on the subject.

I don't even know where to start on how wrong you are about Birdo.

I should point out that I would LOVE K.Rool to be playable, but if I were a betting man, I'd say Dixie gets a spot before him. Villains need more representation, but so do NIntendo's female characters, so that argument is kind of a wash to me.

That's the main thing that sets her apart from, say, birdo (lol). She's been the main story catalyst for 2 mario games, as well as playable in mario 3d world. Birdo is an enemy in some mario games, and playable in some mario spin-off games. The same could be said for most mario desired newcomers. Hammer bro, Boo, shyguy, all enemies, not pivotal to the story(lol) (like bowser, wario, etc). Even Waluigi hasn't been in a mainline mario game (right?), which is likely why he's just an assist trophy. Rosalina is a perfectly valid newcomer. The only one as worthy as rosalina, for mainly the same reason (playable in mainly mario, though not pivotal to the story), is Toad, but he's already a peach move.

Not that I think it was real, but for the sake of verification. Someone did this during the pokemon X/Y leaks IIRC. Somebody claimed they faked it and it turned out to be real.

I never thought about it, but there have been very few playable protagonists in mainline Mario games, haven't there? Off the top of my head it's just

Luigi
Toad
Peach
Rosalina
Yoshi - Gray Area, but Yoshi's Island 1 was Super Mario World 2, so I think it counts.

Any I missed?

Also, I haven't unlocked Rosalina in 3DW yet, but I'm almost to Bowser's castle in world 8, am I close?

Yeah seriously, for as many people that will come in and state how the Mario franchise has too many characters in spin offs, seeing her get promoted to a mainstay in a mainline game was the moment that should have let everyone know that she was a much bigger deal than the Daisies and Wa-whatevers.

Then there's also the kinda overlooked fact that she represents one of the most pivotal moments in both the Mario series and Nintendo development as a whole by being the one that wholly represents the Galaxy games.
