Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Hmm, that is true. What about the compression, though?

Basically these:

Wouldn't a direct, photoshopped image, have tons of artifacts, but a screenshot of a photoshop image NOT have the artifacts?

He could load the "new" image on the 3ds and take a picture of it and it would have no artifacts right?

A low res off-screen shot is going to have fewer artifacts because you don't have to tamper with an image of a screen that you've loaded a fake image on, as long as it's a lower quality shot.

I'm not saying that this is a direct confirmation or denial of anything, just that none of that is damning.

Also, I feel like we're reenacting the plot of Sonic Adventure 2 through these images.

Corrected my previous statements after looking at it some more.

  • New shot is direct shot, not off-screen
  • Mario's head, and only his head, is in a slightly different position
  • Mario's head model is actually different. Lighting on the hat is off, mustache is off.
  • Palutena's orb is a different color (size?)
  • Palutena's outline on the staff changes from picture to picture.

Possibilities:
  • This proves it's fake, as this is a screenshot taken seconds after/before the other one
  • This guy tried to make a fake shot of the previous shot to try to prove the previous shot fake, even though it's real. (lol)
  • Guy made a fake shot based off the old fake shot. (lol)

Conclusion:
Can't tell if original palutena leak is fake or real yet.
Palutena is still probably in smash, for more reasons than the 'leak.'

Either way, losing or winning this one is whatever given that she'll be in Smash 4 anyway barring some supreme level of getting SAKURAIIIII'd that we mortals have yet to experience.

Now how about a Takamaru leak?

Not gonna get a convincing one for someone who won't be playable in the end!

there was a topic on /v/ where someone admitted it was staged using project M and photoshop.

...You don't use Project M for something like this lol. Project M is a complete mod of Brawl both for gameplay, stages, characters, and so on. I think you meant to say Brawlbox, which is the modding tool/software people use to make/port character models, stages, change hitboxes, textures, etc.

So with E3 coming up....I figure we'll get one more veteran (probably Ice Climbers since they've never been a secret character) between now and then. Then at E3 we'll get Pac-Man and Mii, and that'll be it until the 3DS version launches in the summer because Sakurai will have revealed all the starting roster characters. Then the rest will be secret unlockable characters, some of which may be revealed between the 3DS and Wii U releases.

I wonder if we'll still get daily screenshots after the 3DS version comes out, though.

Project M does have the unlocked camera and asset swap codes already enabled, so using it might make things easier to stage.

But yeah, having not seen the original post it would make sense.

So while you guys await the daily image (even though one image with information attached to it still kinda pales to ~120 images without context), here's something to argue about:

Well?

Bulbasar is the first in the pokedex
Rhydon is the first developed

Now the arceus dilemma confuses me
Areus is said to have created the both sinnoh trios, lake and creation.
Possibly created the word
Did Mew exist without a world?
Is there some way to be related genetically outside of through siblings and father/mother

Did Mew/Arceus inject each others DNA into each other

Its all very confusing

That's also a good point. No need to use project M, just use regular character model edits/hacks.

Y'know what'd be persuasive evidence someone faked that Palutena leak?

An actual different pose/image/angle of that Palutena model provided by the leaker.
I have no idea how people are persuaded by some airbrushing & mario getting a new head.

Who are the real monsters? Aren't we the ones who capture these creatures, force them to live in confined spaces, and brainwash then into attacking other creatures, all for our own profit?

The true original monster is E: the human race.

Well, there is that pokemon=humans theory, and there are even the psychics and sinnoh lore books to back that up

Yeah, right now my stance is that this is a fake of the previous shot in an attempt to make teamFake win. If he could show more from palutena, different angles, etc, and it looked identical, then maybe i'd buy it. If he could show video of his 'project M' edit, then maybe i'd buy the fake. As it is, it's a fake of a fake (or real!).

Next veteran predictions:

Captain Falcon: Kriken
Ice Climbers: Beelzebufo, Gallantioh, Hyperactivity, Kjellson, munchie64, theprodigy, Troubled Bat, Zeer0id
Ike: Mr Buddy
Lucas: backlot
Meta Knight: BassForever, Hehateme, MaverickHunterAsh, tonyh24613
Ness: ArchedThunder, Linkhero1, Majukun, Scooter155, Qurupeke
Snake: Jawmuncher
Wario: Caladrius, Gonzo The Great, PorygonVandal, SaintMadeOfPlaster, Toxi, Zalman

Will keep this post updated.

I'll say Falco! After Peach, Toon Link, Sonic, Lucario, I've learned to predict the unpredictable. Maybe.

I agree, but in all fairness, the links you posted might not be the best defense of the photos legitimacy.

It seems logical that the leak, which is a photo taken of a picture being displayed on a 3DS screen, wouldn't be as easy to detect edits in as the original "clean" image would be. People's arguments that it MIGHT be possible that the "clean" image is a WIP version of the final "leak", but the high compression alone makes me doubt it - if it was a WIP photoshop file they could have and would (should) have saved it out in a much higher quality...

Palutena's orb being different seems like a weird detail to "fake", as well as the head.

I still think the original Palutena leak is fake so if this is new leak is a legitimate recreation then hat's off.

Yup, video would be conclusive, and it would be very simple to do if you really had created the fake.

well whattya know, the Palutena leak was fake.

It really wouldn't surprise me if the pic was fake, but I'm with Heath, Palutena will be in the game someway or another
Besides the statue

Oh yeah, I only did that to point out the clear difference between the two shots; not to prove the initial leak. The "New" shot has tons of weird artifacts going on (method's not even that necessary, you can see a lot of it with the bare eye)

My Smash Sense is tingling, so I think it's trying to tell me that Zozark is more likely to be Wii U exclusive pokeball pokemon.

wut. Heath pliss, don't make me set you up with Smash 64 and slap you around with Ness, Jiggly and Captain Falcon.

Cap Falcon and Ness are 100% in. Jigglypuff is one of last 3 characters that were added in the game.

If i took the new leak w/ all of its artifacts, saved it as an image on my XL, then took a picture of the XL with the same new picture, would the artifacts remain or disappear?

since the image is the native resolution of a 3DS they would remain. The original leak's shots are too clear to hide compression.

Not convinced that the new pic is actually the original but I don't think it's impossible - could just be a work-in-progress before touchups and sending over to the 3DS.

Of course, the original is also fake.
But Palutena is in the game anyways.

This is the most damning part to me. No one posts jpegs at that level of compression in this day and age unless they're incompetent, trying to save on bandwidth, or trying to obscure evidence of tampering.

4chan stuff doesn't last long before getting wiped

How old is this image though and what board was it posted on? 4chan posts don't disappear instantaneously and I would think this post would have been popular enough to stick around for a bit. Did nobody even get a screen cap of the original thread?

Also, where did you find this image, JazzmanZ? Did you see the original thread on 4chan? Did the OP make any other posts in the thread?
