Nintendo Downloads - April 2014

Golden Sun for a Wii U and SMB 3 for 3DS for me this week.

I have way too many other things to play to justify jumping into Golden Sun at the moment, but I want to support VC. Positive reinforcement.

I got Mario 3 and Golden Sun on Wii U/3DS as well.

I was playing Atelier Escha and Lodgy and enjoying that, but once I turned on Golden Sun to see how it looked on Wii U... I couldn't stop playing. I'm going to finish that game for the billionth time first and then go back to Atelier after. lol

When the fuck is Shin'en going to show off their car game?

They tweeted about it months ago and everyone expected it during the Direct that was happening the day after or whatever.

Not a peep since :(

The definitely shouldn't show it now. MK8 is going to take all the "racing" spotlight even if it's a different style.

So why don't we have SNES games on the 3ds? Resolution? Not enough processor speed to emulate games like how they don't wanna emulate GBA games?

Is it bad that I'm considering buying a 3DS now more than ever just to have SMB3 on the go?

Personally I couldn't stand the god awful controls. No way of swapping A/B made it unplayable for me, classic Mario button layouts are too rooted with me I guess.

They are releasing Art of Balance 1st.

Knowing Shin'en being a big indie for Nintendo it wouldn't surprise me if this was one of Nintendo's big indie titles for E3!

Anyways nothing for me this week though I just picked up Fusion a few days ago.

Accurate emulation of the snes requires a beefy cpu, something the 3ds doesn't have
I do wonder if being Nintendo they could create something more effective than a fan made effort would've been. I kind of expect the Wii's emulator could beat the crap out of most similarly powered computers.

Still, at this point it seems more a hope for the next Nintendo handheld, however that turns out.

When it comes to doing emulation the Wii cpu is apparently a bit of a beast

Was browsing around 3DS eShop looking for Flowerworks before realizing that it's on the WiiU. Decided to see what this game (Smash Cat Heroes) is about. Noticed that it only has 1 review for 1 star. Not too good, I guess.

I haven't played it, but the game is made by Tom Create--they do pretty decent work.

Escape from Zombie City, Portable Shrine Wars, Undead Storm and 10 Second Run are all really fun games. Incredibly simple, five-minute time wasters, but they've always been pretty darn good in the past.

You're the first person I see that likes GP Legend more than Maximum Velocity, or even at all. Personally, I didn't like it at all and dropped it very fast. I was surprised to hear the sequel was supposedly good.

Didn't play Maximum Velocity, but I did enjoy GP Legend quite a bit.

I also got it on clearance at a Walmart for like $10, so that was a factor.

If by accurate you mean BSNES-accurate, than probably neither the Xbone nor the PS4. But it doesn't need to be accurate, just like the Wii VC isn't 100% accurate: it's just accurate enough to fool most people.

Now, I'm not saying the 3DS could easily emulate the SNES: it probably takes more work than Nintendo is willing to put on it. Their VC SNES emulators are probably filled to the brim with low level PowerPC code and would probably require major rewrites for the 3DS ARM CPUs.

There might be other Nintendo-style reasons behind it too, like keeping some Wii U exclusive content to incentive people to buy both systems or something silly like that. I mean, they have GBA games running on the 3DS and decided to release them on Wii U instead.

I was able to pick up Dr. Luigi yesterday, and considering it's my first "Dr. Mario-type game," it's a lot of fun. It's a shame that there aren't a lot of people playing the online mode. In two hours of playing, I've only played against one guy, and he bailed when he was losing.

All Nintendo has to do is call up Namco and work out a deal to use the SNES emulator that Namco built for the Jump Legend Biography Collection and Shin Chan preorder bonus SNES game on the 3DS. Boom, instant profit for all parties involved.

Must be something about PowerPC. Admittedly ARM processors aren't really known for being beastly CPUs either.

I could be remembering slightly wrong but I believe it was from someone coding emulators that we found out the wii's 729mhz cpu could perform 80% as well (at General purpose code) as the 4 and a half times faster x360 cpu

Cave Story+ also coming to Japan (Summer) as well as Dress to Play: Magic Bubbles (30 April), Darts Up 3D (30 April), Soccer Up 3D (28 May) and Governor of Poker (soon). The middle three are renamed as Star Series.

Mario Golf WT demo is fantastic. Game lends itself very well to the 3DS, I like the course designs, animations, menu design (which reminded me of P4, haha) - can't wait for the full game.

Not sure if this was already mentioned, but its eShop page confirms that the European price for NES Remix 2 will be 9.99€, same as the first game.

9,99€ is about $15.20 (I guess you mean Canadian dollar), so the difference is not as big as it seems (though that's including taxes for Europe). Given that we almost always pay a lot more, give us this one case.

Looks like Circle Entertainment is working on a patch for Swords and Soldiers 3D that'll massively improve the frame rate and add in the sausagefest DLC.

I bought it for $3 a couple months ago and found it to be unplayable due to the frame rate. If this actually fixes this issue, I'm pretty excited!

I'm not thrilled that NES Remix 2 will cost me an extra $1.50, but it's the same price Americans pay when you factor the exchange. Yes, I know they probably wouldn't change it if the situation reversed, but it also doesn't seem entirely unfair to me.

Oh my God, if Snes VC comes to the 3ds , SNES rpgs , mario world, yoshis island , super metroid on the go , fuck, now this needs to happen

I always felt the lower price was simply due to the fact NES did not sell well in Europe so there is less nostalgia for it making it a harder sell so the price was lowered to help ease this. Kind of like how the Mega Drive games were 600 points on the Japanese VC.

Speaking of wich: When's Nintendo gonna start beating the Gameboy horse? It's the 25th birthday of the brick and was probably the first absolutely worldwide dominant Nintendo device.

Hmmm good point, though I guess outside of VC releases its a dead brand so maybe that's why we're not hearing anything

It sold about the same as the SNES. Though NES nostalgia is often a bit overshadowed by the home computers of the era like the C64, at least here in Germany.
But going by that logic we should have a lower NES VC price as well.

Pretty sure it's not that simple. It all comes down to accuracy. An emulator may appear accurate, but is far from it. Look for posts from byuu.

Nintendo probably has an emulator just as accurate as Namco's if not more, but either feels it isn't accurate enough or SNES games on 3DS don't fit their current sales strategy. They might feel that SNES games help sell the Wii U or that SNES games might help sell the 3DS's successor for all we know.

Dead brand? Bah. I've seen more people with an OG Gameboy shell for their iPhone than I've ever seen people playing the real thing out in the streets back in the day. If Nintendo doesn't want that money so be it.

Whenever people talk about how Nintendo strives for accurate emulation I just remember that they had no problem releasing Super Metroid on PAL VC even though the emulation introduced control, display and sound issues. So much for accuracy.
