One step closer to a new Phantom Dust?
The controls have apparently been streamlined (from their Gundam origins), but there's still a variety of options available to players on the battlefield. Characters jump/boost into the air and battle from above, there's ranged attacks, melee attacks, transformative moves that change your approach. Different characters will have different strengths. We sampled three of the four, and they all felt sufficiently different even though we only had limited time with them. That said, the movement and the attacks of each seems to have retained the mechanical feel of the genre's origins. It's more than a simple reskin of Gundam, but they'll have to do more if they're to really differentiate it from its source material.
Achieving the sweet taste of victory is fairly straight forward. You get a shared pool of lives (five for each team) and your own set of hit points that last as long as you can keep them. The winning team is the first that can whittle down their enemy's health bars five times, so even if you're super skilled, you are only as strong as your weakest leak. The devs stress that there's deeper tactics in 2vs2, more so than when larger groups scrap it out in other games, and we can see potential in players balancing their play, protecting each other, and targeting enemies for deadly flanking attacks. Even if you're not very good, they say, if you've got a capable partner then you may still have a chance of success.
There's work to be done for sure, but the concept and its early execution has us intrigued. We weren't sold on some of the decisions made around character design, and the combat - the crux of the matter - lacked a touch of heft that perhaps might have made it more satisfying, especially in the melee. It's inescapably the spiritual successor to Gundam, and that's reflected in the way characters move about the arenas. It's too early to tell whether that's going to be a help or a hinderance. We also need to know more about how the free-to-play is going to be implemented. Having said all that, when it comes to the action, there's loads going on and it's frantic, explosive and engaging. We enjoyed the handful of rounds that we played, and that's a good start.
Were the controls kinda sorta like this then (just assume the PS3 controller is a 360 one)? Of course I wouldn't expect it to be exact.

Basically confirms this is Baba's game and is Namco Bandai's play to bring the EXVS system to the west with hopes for a wider audience than Gundam would draw.
Apologies if this was posted already, I didn't see it.
(Reading how the GI guy acted like a normal EXVS hamlord-noob when he played warmed my heart.)
Kinda... but not exactly like this. I'm trying to see if I can get a video still from the panel which had the controls scheme. I've filmed it, but can't get a focused still, but I'm trying
It will be easier for you to see how the controls are like this way. Will post here as soon as I can grab this right.
I've uploaded a new gameplay video we filmed there (and some footage we got from the devs):

Just finished uploading so quality should improve soon.
Why would you not make this a mech game?! You could ride off the titanfall hype and PC gamers do like their mech games.
Still pretty interested, but that's a pretty unappealing art style.
True, but wouldn't Mecha Heihachi be so much better? Now it's easier for Heihachi to make a cameo appearance! :O

Extreme VS in a different skin. Makes sense. As much as I prefer them just giving the series a shot here RoI seems to be the balance of getting what you really want in a package that others may be able to access a bit more.
No BR Zundas no saleThanks for the upload. Yup, definitely a spawn of Gundam EXVS gameplay. There's the boost gauge, ammo counters on the bottom right, radar on the top right, health on the bottom left, team gauge on the top left, etc.

I'm sure once Gundam VS vets get their hands on it, the gameplay will start looking like it's intended. I saw some boost dash cancelling later on in that vid with the pink lady, so at least that's in. Gotta open up dem combos.
Still don't see how making a character fighter has a broader appeal. It's pretty clear design wise it's pretty much a mech game.Probably in development way before Titanfall was a "sure thing" to them and the Gundam franchise being poor managed (in general) to west markets before.
Hey it's all good to me.Fixed. Why waste ideas that were already executed once?

I think the main thing is that Bamco really doesn't trust Gundam in the West (for whatever reason), which is why we only get the likes of the DW:G games over here.
If such were otherwise, we likely would've gotten a F2P version of Gundam Vs. by now, just like we did with Tekken and Soulcalibur.
I really don't think this style makes them stand out though. It really doesn't look particularly good, it's a major reason why I'd rather have mech designs. It's kind of a toss up but making it a mech game limits them design wise. This at least stands out a little more and they could include some robot characters if they want.
Why not make it a Gundam game? Despite the name recognition, I think Gundam at this point is automatically associated with the animu stereotype and, more importantly, crappy licensed games. I think they would definitely have an audience and Gundam games would succeed here, but they're trying to broaden the audience beyond that niche. Whether this is the right way to go about that, I don't know. But I see the logic in what they're thinking.

I was saying mech game, not necessarily a gundam game. I'm personally not really a fan of gundam designs.

And F2P Gundam VS is too good for us. If that was the case the series would've already taken that path already in Japan with the money potential being so crazy. On top of such is that the arcade to console hustle, approach to DLC and adding suits with each iteration is working fine so why even rock that boat.
As my time with Rise of Incarnates came to a close, I was also promised that the game doesnt use a pay-to-win model. In regards to monetization, the only things youll have to spend cash on are cosmetic changes to your characters, so at least the barrier for entry for your wallet is low. Whether or not thatll be enough to rope westerners into this very Japanese concept, however, is yet to be seen.
Literally Anarchy Reigns
I'm thinking it probably means more like League of Legends model where you can earn characters via currency earned from matches but the only things you can't earn in-game and have to pay for are cosmetics.
Should have lost faith long before this.Should I lose faith on a new full-fledged Tekken/SoulCalibur game for PS4/XB1 in the next couple of years?
Not surprising, they made the damn franchise utterly irrelevant through poor programming choices, screwing over western partners, and not putting out good games to maintain the fanbase. You'd need a double punch of Gundam Build Fighters doing well on Cartoon Network and an older skewing Gundam show like 00 doing great on Toonami to possibly revive interest in Gundam.I think the main thing is that Bamco really doesn't trust Gundam in the West (for whatever reason), which is why we only get the likes of the DW:G games over here.

I see boost dashing, Last Shooting, and GEROBIS
