Rise of Incarnates by Namco's Tekken/SoulCaliber/GundamEx staff [PC exclusive?]

Game plays a bit weird in its current state, but it has potential.

The most bizarre thing about it, though, is the fact that Bamco doesn't plan on releasing it in Japan. They're completely focused on the West.

Well there's already Gundam, Gunslinger Stratos, and Dragon Ball Zenkai being the most popular games in Japanese arcades at the moment. Japanese fans of this kind of game are already taken care of.

And on the other hand, I'm hoping that maybe if this does become somewhat successful, it may push SE to take a chance with Gunslinger Stratos someday in the near future in the West.

They tried 00 on Syfy, nope. At least it did well enough to finish its run.
00 had zero advertising for itself (just shitty AniMonday stuff) and was cut up to hell. I don't think anyone who wasn't on a forum or looking at anime news sites knew that show existed.

Then the thing would just be about NOT screwing us out of the likes of Gundam X and Turn A and giving them a shot on Toonami. Why Bandai had such a problem with Gundam X is still beyond me...
They think that the west's taste = Japan's taste, which has been demonstrated to be untrue in a lot of cases. X bombed hard in Japan because it was the third iteration in a row within a few years, which burned fans out and is why Bandai Japan refused to consider letting it get on Toonami's first run.

That said, I doubt we'd see them because anything pre-2000 has a bias against it from a decent amount of TV viewers, plus Bandai wants an absurd amount of money for the Gundam license. Even if someone like Funimation got the rights to it all, they probably would skip dubbing X and Turn A to save money for future products.

Looks interesting, but PC exclusive. :( Appearance-wise, it looks like they had PC/Western gamers in mind with the designs. Hopefully it's good, but I wonder how far they will go with the F2P.

All it says is that it is coming to PC towards the end of 2014. Other consoles or an exclusive deal with one of the consoles is a possibility as always. It wouldn't surprise me to see a trend of free 2 play games being "money hatted" on the consoles. PC on the other hand seems to be the most successful opportunity for free 2 play games lately so announcing it for the PC at this point is not such a shock as it is hard to turn away from it

I feel that character design is a big thing you want to get right in these kinds of games.

After seeing that first guy's face close up, it suddenly reminded me of the kind of thing you see in a college/university student's portfolio. That is, something that probably took a good deal of effort and skill to create, but doesn't really have the refinement that you'd expect to see in a professionally made product.
I appreciate them trying to get this kind of gameplay style out to a wider audience, it's just that the character design rubs me the wrong way.

Since it's free I don't have an issue with trying it out though.

It looks like it controls similar to the PS2 Mobile Suit Gundam games (and EXVS too I guess) so it should be fairly easy to get into.

Luckily I was able to see some of this title beforehand and I really have to say it is shaping up rather well! The team is very passionate and have a clear goal. Obviously there will be doubts from many, especially with some of the recent F2P models Bandai Namco has employed, but rest assured they have learned and I have full faith in the team to make this (RoI) work.

Now just playing Devil's Advocate...

I'm just thinking about the future. If you're familiar with Namco/Bandai fighters, they often have cool things like crossovers or guest appearances from their other franchises or even from other IP owners. How cool would it be to see your favorite characters in this game?!

Oh, really? I was always told that X bombed because it was airing at the same time Evangelion was a thing, and really couldn't compete, as a result.

But whatever the case may be, it's still sad. Especially when it likely would have been a better fit for the Gundam W-raised Toonami audience than trying to immediately get them acquainted with First Gundam, even before 9/11 happened and Gundam was unceremoniously pulled from the lineup...

Depending on how it's done, it could be a very cool thing to see!

I'm optimistic (as usual). The thought of guests does seem rather exciting, Jin(transform into Devil Jin) etc. The base roster does really seem to appeal towards a general audience. Neither being too affiliated with a eastern or western art style. Kind of hard to get attached to any of them based off the current footage, but everyone hated the Street Fighter 3 cast when it came out as well. One of those things that grows over time and exposure.

Hopefully it will be at E3 so I can get my hands on it.

I signed up for the alpha before the trailer even finished. This could turn out to be awesome. The character models do put me off a little bit, though.

I have little doubts the gameplay will be tight considering the pedigree and what I've seen from that one gameplay vid so far (on top of being a big EXVS nut anyway) :) Although one article mentioned pay-for-time as part of the f2p model. Would you be able to confirm that?

Honestly, I don't know what I can and can't say (Hi Bandai Namco friends reading this!)... but I'll talk to them this week to see their stance, lol.

If they bring over the right characters, then this game could be huge. I'm looking forward to seeing how RoI turns out. I'm already sold on the 2 v 2 gameplay.

Understandable ^^ Will be hoping to try it out a bit soon and hopefully at E3 as well.

And for those who want a better idea of how it would probably play, I'm streaming Gundam Extreme VS Full Boost right now, which is where RoI's gameplay originates from: http://www.twitch.tv/gevurah22

Yeah. This was cool to see. Baba and the other producers I talked too were all really enthusiastic about the game and what it meant for Bamco.

They also seem to be doing their homework in terms of how to properly monetize and promote the game.

Would appear on stream cosplaying amuro.

Game looks great to me, I love playing Gundam EXVS with friends but having to have us all together around the PS3 with sub-par framerates at times is annoying, would love to be able to get into this 2v2 with friends if it's anywhere near as good as EXVS is.

I'm excited for this, but looking at the designs in the trailer...it may have been better to go with Gundam. LOL.

I'm sure they will improve though.

The game will not be stamina based.

Like I said, the team behind this has done their homework and know the market. I trust these guys.

I'm interested to see how this turns out, if its just going to be a C&P of exvs or something more/less. They really need some better people to show it off since EXVS shows really poorly by inexperienced players. Hopefully they'll have this playable at E3 since i'll be attending.

I watched the trailer for this game a couple of days ago, and I'm very interested. It really reminded me of Anarchy Reigns, and I love that game. I really wanted to play that game online, but I didn't have much luck in doing that. Now, we have a game that is very reminiscent of Anarchy Reigns, and it's on a platform that handles online capabilities better than consoles?! Count me in! I signed up for access to the alpha, and I eagerly await a response.

In regards to the game's aesthetic style, I'm okay with it. I'm not really put off by the character designs at all. I'm a fighting game fan, and these characters look like they'd fit in a fighting game. I've seen worse, but I've also seen better. They're just fine.

I for one, hope that characters from existing Namco IPs make it in. I want to see Astaroth in, and not just because he's my favorite Soul Calibur character; his aesthetic changes over the years sort of fit this game's aesthetic style: Have his regular form be his Soul Calibur 1 look, and his "Incarnate" form be his Soul Calibur 4 look. It's perfect!

Yo MarkMan you should get Bamco to fly out some of west coast GundamGAF to fplay test and record some footage. What better way to promote the game than to get people familiar with the genre some good play time.

"Having terrible flashes to that one partner everybody's probably had in EXVS that would spam only 8B (or some other travelling melee attack) and get themselves killed repeatedly doing so."

Dunpyon. In Dun's defense he lands his melee most of the time, though.

ohhhhhhhhhhhh my god this is awesome

oooooohhhh my god. Gundam Vs. targeted at an international audience and released on PC ooooooohhhh my god

With this coming out, watch it blow up and we get a team together to rule the esports world. =P
I'll cast it!

Fair enough, you have to know many here would be skeptical of BamCo, especially in what they have brought over to the west.

Hopefully the metrics line up to something consumer friendly at launch to build a large userbase and not a LoL approach with too many locked at the start.

Only when we let him.

Can't wait to Dun scrubs online.

ABABABABABABABABABABAB

Alternatively... can't wait to finish people off like this (assuming a character has a move like so).

Really wish we could've got a better shot at those controls that were shown in the vid I posted. Need to know moar! :O

I'll bring this up with the team, but honestly they have access to Japanese players who play Gundam VS. Just saying.

I remember when niconico was watching SoCal regionals and they were trolling the shit out of the players there, except for Donkeybro aka GmCustom.
