Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Not a good comparison. The fundamental nature of poker is that it relies on luck and being able to hide when you're lucky.

The fundamental nature of competitive Smash is being able to read an opponent, quickly take advantage of a situation, and have the chops to execute what you want to execute quickly.
Congratulations, you just described Poker.

shulk is the top 4 character demanded in japan and while the game is good shuly is not really all that popular here. plalutena is also wanted more in japan and think she popular here because everyone expected her because she is sakurai new baby, rhythem heaven aint that popular in america but it's big in japan.

oh no I would not if ridley and rool is in because then sakurai would have hit the top 2 characters in the west( rool argueably, ridley no contest). Even I have to admit ridley chances did a skydive as soon as the boss thing was shown and when sal leaked his second group of newcomers. I am not claiming sakurai does not love me personaly I actually could care less, it's that he does not care enough for the western side to do proper research. How does it make proper buisness since to leave out ridely when you can not even go one page in a smash thread without him popping up.
I'd like to see your research numbers that show Shulk and Rhythm Heaven are significantly more popular in Japan than America. Also, Palutena is very highly requested everywhere... not just because Sakurai made Kid Icarus either. And while I'd like to see K. Rool, there's no way he's one of the most desired characters here in the US.

If you're going to continue to make these same points over and over again, you're going to need some facts and evidence to back it up.

Haha, it's reading in a very different sense. In Poker you're trying to see if the other players are full of shit or not.

In Smash, you're looking at what your opponent is doing and predicting what their next move will be. It's more about quick reflexes/noticing patterns than it is trying to decide how honest a players bet was.

I'm sure the argument can be made that it's the same thing, but that Smash's version of reading is just a much faster paced version of poker's, but don't try and act like there's a big difference between Poker and Smash. One obviously embraces luck, the other (when played competitively) gets messed up with too much luck involved.

He's also completely oblivious to the fact that Japanese forums are full of "Man, they're really catering this game to the overseas market, aren't they?" The real answer is that all of Nintendo's intensely popular characters already have a spot. Any other character they can add will only serve to satisfy one of their smaller, more niche markets. That's not a bad thing, but a thing nonetheless.

Ridley's popularity transcends time and space!

if we're going to talk about most requested we have to talk about goku obvs

Alright, then how about a comparison to competetive World of Tanks, where teams of 7 versus 7 strategize to take each other down while working to compensate for uneven (but balanced) maps and shooting guns with ranges of accuracy rather than pinpoint accuracy, as well as armor penetration and damage values that can vary by plus or minus 25%?

Frankly, the final roster is going to probably be terrible and leave nobody happy. Ridley won't be in, Palutena won't be in, Takamaru sure as fuck won't be in. But that doesn't matter because the game will be terrible. The items will be unbalanced and obnoxious. The stages will be either boring as fuck or unbelievably gimmicky. Online will be laggier than UMvC3. The game itself will just be a faster Brawl or slower Melee. And we'll never get a better sequel. The new Smash won't sell because nobody cares about the Wii U, which will die a lonely death. The 3DS will be pushed to the brink by te burgeoning mobile market. Nintendo will permanently discontinue the series. The competitive scene will dwindle to an insane few. The casual players will suck the teat of new corporate overlords. Mario will hang up his hat and overalls to retire.

In the far-flung future, a child digs for trinkets in the irradiated trash heaps. The girl finds a plastic box with colorful characters and strange markings on its surface. Confused, she brings it to her mother, who tells her to consult the priest of the old tongue. The elderly man conducts the proper ceremony and then announces the holy words on the box:
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Bravo

Fair enough, I suppose.

I didn't say that the amount of time a player can react to items (and other random elements, like Halberd's stage hazards) isn't a factor, it's just not nearly as much of a factor as not being able to control items (which you didn't really argue against).

Seriously, if there was a systematic, nonrandom way to spawn items, then they would be looked at more favorably competitive-wise because it would simply add more ways to play the game with skill. There's a reason why people are OK with Peach pulling Bob-ombs out of the ground or with Mr. Game & Watch getting a 9. Once control is taken away from the players, it essentially ceases to be a fair 1-on-1 fight.

Let me go back to the Halberd example. Yes, the stage is legal, but it's also purely a counterpick stage. The point of the stage is that it's not supposed to be a fair 1-on-1 fight. That's why you would take someone there, because it would favor you a lot more than it would favor your opponent.

The point I was trying to make with the halberd is to show that something being out of the players control like the stage hazards, doesn't automatically make it uncompetitive.

I think the idea of set spawn points for items is an excellent one and maybe saying which items next like tetris would be cool. That being said I dont think there's anything wrong with make the items that appear random. It tests the players ability to adapt and i think just opens up the number of options possible. I think your in agreement with me on the last point though since you mentioned peach pulling out bombs.

I don't believe Waddle Dee will be in the game, but the WD we see today wouldn't be the WD we would get as a character, this is:

So he isn't "disconfirmed"

Honestly, if we ever got an common enemy as a fighter it would have to be a Goomba since that is the most famous of all.

Okay, so the Ice Climbers didn't happen for the Japanese release of Famicom Remix 1+2. Unless they're revealed tomorrow for NES Remix 2's US release, it looks like those who bet on the Ice Climbers to be the next veteran reveal are probably out.

Up to bat next: the Meta Knight voters! (Myself included!)

Wait? I thought they would release Famicom Remix 1+ 2 tomorrow for Japan?
