Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Ive never played Rhythm Heaven nor do I understand how the game works. Id be curious what ideas people would have for Marshal or the chorus kids as Smash characters.
I gave a few ideas some days back but here's the general gist. Since rhythm based moves based on the music is most likely out of the question due to logistics my prediction would be to have moves with two stages, one to initiate the move and the other time based to finish it one i.e. press B 1...2... press B again. So one move could be to summon the buckets, balls and bulbs from the Karate Man game with B and then you press B again to hit them again across the stage.

Since Marshal is an updated version of the Night Walker his up B would just be his balloon bunch. Unlike Villager however these won't last forever and will pop automatically one at a time like they do at the beginning of Night Walk.

Of course they can use his Final Smash to actually play some Rhythm Tengoku series music and have the attacks rhythm based much like DK's FS so a more true to the game rhythm based attack is present in Smash.

Odd that they thought the chest was a Zelda item when it clearly has the Smash logo on it. They usually have a good eye for noticing details.
Well, he did keep insisting that Water Park was called "Sub Coaster" despite Sunshine Airport and signs in Water Park calling it Water Park :P

The boomerang is also from SMB3, and to be more specific the blue boomerang powerup originated in the GBA version of SMB3 via the eReader; which to be fair was never released in the US.

It is really weird they call that chest being from Zelda since it looks nothing like any Zelda chest. When I first saw it I thought it was from Find Mii.

Chorus Kids/Marshall will fight in rhythm to the music.

Only certain tracks will be legal in competitive play as they become too strong with a fast paced beat.

This was posted on Smashboards and Reddit. I am glad there are more people out there who would like to see Ganon playable.

My favorite Pokemon is Chesnaught. I know that feel. I force him to be competitive though XD.

Second Fav is a tie between Scyther and Scizor

Chesnaught's pretty good in UU and can wall some major threats in OU via Bulletproof.

I just don't see Sakurai doing that. Ganondorf is the most relevant version of Ganon in the Zelda series. That probably won't change.

It's annoying me how many people have been fooled by that "leak" of the select screen. It's so blatantly fake and I keep seeing people getting fooled. They don't love theyselves. If anything we'll probably see the 3DS one sooner anyway, but the reused assets and choppy images should've thrown people off.

I've also been playing the Rhythm Heaven games again lately and it's gonna really upset me if the "Chorus Men" rumour is fake at this point. It's been covered by us here and also the general press/fans so much now I almost want it to be true, just like in Palutena's case.

I really want to see Marshal in the game, since he basically is the "face" of the series and is near identical and much cuter than the Chorus Men as well, while representing the franchise as a whole. I'd love it if he incorporates rhythm into his fighting style working similarly to DK's FS and not being as effective if you have the funkiness level of Ellen Degeneres, it'd be so unique, and his moveset could incorporate various elements of the minigames from the series also.
I'd disagree with your stuff about Marshall. He's only in Fever, which isn't exactly the most successful game in the series. He also has a more limited moveset, there's only one of him, not three. The Chorus Men were also used heavily in marketing the DS game, so they've got that going for them. Luckily it looks like we'll actually get the Chorus Men and not Marshall, since "Chorus Men" is the name of their game in Japan, the leaker gave a specific name.

I did alright in a local tournament with Chesnaught. I used him as a lead. He'd Toxic or Leech the other pokemon then turtle out with Spiky shield and leftovers. I think I had hammer arm as well to wreck ferrothorns .

Yeah, this is how I feel as well. The Rhythm Heaven series doesn't have a "face," so going with the Chorus Men (who are on the box art of the best-selling entry) makes sense.

I see where you're coming from, however, appearing in just one game in the series isn't an issue if you look at the likes of Ike or (at this point) Greninja. The Chorus Men themselves only appeared in one game, and both characters appeared on the front cover. Only difference is Marshal isn't limited to just appearing in one game - he appears elsewhere within the game, on the front cover, and also as a "host" within the opening and endings.

One of the minor differences in their design is that he has hands and the Chorus Men don't. It sounds scrupulous to point out, but it makes it so if he's going to be wielding items, grabbing opponents, or even attacking by clapping to a beat like he is in this artwork then it doesn't look as silly.

I do agree that the whole 3-character team thing would be cool and a first for Smash but I don't think they have the charisma or personality that Marshal has, and he can take ownership of their Glee Club abilities, and then some. His design seems like it was an evolution of theirs anyway since they were some of the more popular designs from the first game.

Talking about it like this does make it seem even less of a possibility that either will be in. I think it would require ridiculous amounts of work for them to realise either character and make them really pop in the world of Smash, but if they did I'm sure they'd turn it out fabulously, and if the rumours are true, I hope they blow our minds and do the series proud. It'd be a shame to see the series not appear anywhere in the game. Even a stage similar to WarioWare would be awesome.

I don't get why they guy would be able to identify the chorus man over marshall if he is indeed confusing the two but not be able to name an x/y pokemon. I believe the leak fwiw just thinking out loud

I actually don't really buy the second sal romano leak, but not knowing the specific pokemon would make sense for the supposed leaker since The Pokemon Company chooses which Pokemon to appear in Smash IIRC.

I could see something like the initial planned roster for the game just having the Pokemon reps being more vague since they are yet to be specified.

I still have some problems. All of those characters you talked about only appearing in one game aren't the only characters in their franchise, so they aren't comparable situations. The Chorus Men have all of the qualities you referred to Marshall having (more than one game, on cover), while additionally making cameos in two completely different games (Fever and Game&Wario). They also do all of this in the most successful game in the series, in which they are the only ones on the cover. The hand thing doesn't matter at all. Kirby doesn't have hands. I would also argue that they're much more interesting character-wise than Marshall, and they can also do everything Marshall can do and then some, because once again there's three of them. I'm glad we can agree that they're really popular though.

But like I said, the leak (which is honestly the only reason to expect either of them at all) specifically mentions "Chorus Men", not Marshall, so it's not Marshall anyway. It's not even comparable to "Pokemon from X/Y" or "Animal Crossing Guy", but a specific name, like "WiiFit Trainer" or "Palutena".

Presumably because there's three.

I really like Ganon's concept. I am all for him! :)

Has anyone mentioned that the challenger approaching banners have been removed from the official site?

Ice Climbers incoming.

Perhaps, it's Ice Climbers' turn to appear tomorrow so they have to!

That is an odd statement. Ganon appears in more games than Ganondorf, and more recently at that.

Ganon appears as an enemy in the original, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Four Swords Adventures, the Oracle games, as a shadow in Link's Awakening, and has some presence in Twilight Princess. Not to mention his shadow hangs of The Adventure of Link quite prominently. In A Link Between Worlds,
Yuga pretty much just turns into Ganon for the final battle, mostly using his classic attacks
.

On the other hand, Gerudo Ganondorf has only appeared in three games. In OoT, he wasn't even the final boss, he changed into Ganon for that. And in both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, some form of classic Ganon has a presence in the final battles, even if it is just as a puppet.

Ganondorf as an actual character in the series has only appeared in as many games as Vaati. Sure, Ganondorf appears in the most prominent games, but in the series as a whole he has rather limited presence.

EDIT: I should probably talk about the Ganon image itself. I definitely think Ganon should get in, and I think that image does a great job of showing how his size and proportions could work. I'm going to have to disagree on the special move list though. I would roll the Trident toss and the invisibility teleport together into a single move. That is how Ganon classically does the trick, and it would solve the issue of having to create a separate set of attacks for him while the trident is in the air.

Haha

Love this. I would definitely love to see Ganon in Smash.

Speaking of Zelda characters in Smash, I know a lot of people are thinking if there's going to be a new Legend of Zelda character it's likely going to be from Skyward Sword, probably Ghirahim, Impa, or Demise, right?

What are the chances they go with Link Between Worlds instead, though? What are the chances of say, Ravio, do you think?

ravio is possible,at least more possible than demise or ghiraim IMHO,since they are putting him in mario golf too
but i dnt think we will see a newcomer from the zelda series, hopefully ganondorf will be back (as a captain falcon clone or as a new character) and that's that

Uh... that's not Ravio in Mario Golf lol

Ravio would just [LBW spoilers]
be a link clone :p

Nabbit would be a great Assist Trophy now that I think of it - runs around and steals items, you can try to attack him and get them back.

Ravio
should be an alternate costume/color for Link. And Hilda for Zelda!

For a major franchise like Zelda, it's possible, but I doubt we'll see anyone that's a one-off. I don't think they'd remove any current Zelda character in favor for a new one, but it's possible to add another. I doubt any of the characters you mentioned were even considered for this game. If by chance we do get another Zelda character my bet is that it'll be Tingle just because he's appeared in a handful of Zelda games already.

I'm sure he'd have a unique moveset....or not :p

As a new character, no if and or buts about it, Nobody like slow ass captain Falcon. I always thought it seemed lazy as hell that he had his moveset.
