Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

What exactly is the number based on though? Points accrued in single player or wins online? Both?

I want to be at least above 1,000,000

It's just a reverse ranking. Say there are 1000 players. In a normal ranking, if you were first, you would be #1. With this system, it just says "You are better than 999 other players", so your Global Smash Power is 999.

Edit: I think I misunderstood your question. It seems the points are only counted for online play, and consider only the number of the players who connected the game online and have victories online.

Yes but what is the ranking based on? Do we know for sure yet?

Watching the direct I got the feeling it was based on your total score from single player mode but that wouldn't make much sense.

I mean maybe, but then he wouldn't really be Ravio anymore. It's like if there was a Zelda game where the playable Link stayed inside his house writing books the whole time.
What I meant was that it would be cool if they made a The Legend of Hilda where you play as one of the Ravios and not the specific one in ALBW, just like you play a different Link in almost every Zelda game.

While waiting for the Pic of the Day, I decided to make a mock-up of SmashGAF's ideal roster.

You are Welcome.

Aww man, at first i thought jason was strongbad :(

Strongbad for smash. He's even been on a nintendo console!

I used to love going to 600 AD and eating like 10 feasts in a row, then going to the future and getting in one.

" Most " Gaf and 4 chan maybe.

Everyone else " SONIC AND MARIO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!!!!!!"

Not invalidating your feelings, I completely understand how your eel but, "most " makes me laugh.

You don't need to be douchebag about it. Almost all off casual players I know we're disappointed by Brawl. Since you called out my opinion so care enough to show me the evidence of your claim please? If you felt so brave to laugh at other people's opinions then you better back it up.

For your information, when I said most; I meant most of regular smashgaf.

I know. But all Links have the shared characteristic of having courage, and the whole point of Ravio is that he doesn't have it. Therefore all of the Ravios should share this characteristic, or else there's not really a point to naming the character Ravio in the first place.

Ok so I went and watched that part of the Direct again

"What we can do, is grab scores from clearing solo modes and things like that"

So I guess the ranking is just going to be based on your single player scores. I'm gonna have to learn to abuse the AI I guess.

Seems a little pointless now but I am a fiend for numbers.

All evidence is going to be anecdotal with something like this. Personally, my friends and I got together to play Melee every weekend throughout highschool, and when Brawl came out, we moved to Brawl and never looked back. I've met and talked to plenty who feel the same way, and I didn't even know the Brawl hate was a thing for years after the game came out.

Spoilers

Ravio and hilda were alive during the time when the triforce was destroyed, which is why they had no wisdom or courage. Now that the triforce has been restored, thanks to link and zelda, they can now get their wisdom and courage back. Ravio post-ALBW has courage, and is fine.

That said, like mario galaxy, ALBW came out too late into smash dev cycle to be included, methinks. And like mario galaxy, it was probably in dev at the same time, so it *COULD* have been included, but was not.

I had no problem with Brawl until I played PM a couple of months ago. After years of loving Brawl, I was convinced by a single mod. Brawl is now nigh unplayable for me.

The moment you first trip in Brawl, you know the game is more about luck and less about skill than Melee. To those of us who yearn to improve our skills, that is an obstacle and a disappointment.

Just found this in the Direct. I chuckled.

The Brawl render?

1) You do not need to speak on "SmashGAF's behalf"
2) You don't know the opinion of most of them
3) This argument between Brawl vs Melee that keeps popping up is stupid (both sides)
4) The Internet is full of loud opinions

Sorry that I'm being aggressive, but every time this "Brawl was disappointing" or "Brawl is better than Melee" stuff happens, people just can't handle the opposing views and start getting super sensitive about it, both sides. It's obvious that people can't discuss it, yet it keeps being brought up and people continue on with it.

I'm quoting your post because I thought you would have dropped it, but you didn't and proceeded to go with anecdotal evidence lol...

What am I seeing here? Edit: Oh, it's the Brawl one? Lol, good catch!

Also, I'm pretty sad that they're using the big picture of the character down there again. 64's minimalist style was so much better and less obtrusive.

Yep. Just thought it was kind of funny.

I believe you're not alone, someone mentioned something about that (Or one of those renders). Placeholder, I guess. They gave some characters new ones, I imagine they just hadn't switched that one out yet.

I also notice that "LITTLEMAC" doesn't have a space in it. Meanwhile, "DONKEY KONG" and "DIDDY KONG" do.

I have never, ever ever had the outcome of a game depend on tripping. The most skilled player still came out on top. I won't say I'll miss it, but it had almost no bearing on the game for me and most people I knew.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. When they showed the UI in Little Mac's trailer, Bowser's explosion didn't match his player color, so that was probably a similar case.

Yep. Just thought it was kind of funny.
Lucario's render is also from Brawl. It was noted a while ago.

But it seems most people didn't see it being mentioned before lol.
But the other side is so terribly wrong...
An opinion is not wrong unless it is based on incorrect information or has a faulty basis.

And this is why people will not be able to discuss about what they prefer and it is just better to avoid it all together.

This is exactly how I feel. I used to be one of the people who preferred Brawl to Melee, but then I played PM like twice. It's more usable characters and playable stages than Brawl, with an outrageously better physics system. Even playing with items is more fun that Brawl. I think me and my friends tried to play Brawl again (we wanted to go back to using normal Wario, Lucario, and Yoshi), but we decided it was better to just abandon playing as our favorite characters than to keep playing with brawl's engine.

I actually have two groups of casual friends I game with, one which is indifferent toward Project M and the other which is vehemently against playing it in any capacity and prefers Brawl over all else. The former didn't really even notice any of Brawl's shortcomings outside of tripping until I showed them Project M (and still don't care), the latter hate it because of the changes it makes to characters.

Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal, but it's really not as cut and dry as "everyone prefers Melee's physics."

Dude what the heck, he wasn't being a douchbag or laughing at your opinion at all. He even explicitly said "Not invalidating your feelings, I completely understand how you feel." Got some wrong-side-of-the-bed goin on here today.

agreed. tired of the argument too. i barely notice the difference between brawl and project m most of the time.

Proof that they just show off veterans as they are completed, rather than some insidious plot to reveal certain ones on certain days?
I think in a way that's probably true. Completed is kind of a fuzzy thing though. I'm sure the basic changes and such for all the characters are probably already laid out and roughly implemented. Rather, we're seeing them after the devs think they're complete enough to show. I imagine small things like the image beside the percent are low priority.

Bringing up anecdotal evidence is exactly my point but both if you don't see it and took it too serious.

Everyone knows that Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is the best Smash game because it contains characters from game franchises that were actually relevant after 1993.

LMFAO emb just literally had the same exact convo I was going to have with DaBoss after reading that first post.

Hilarious :B
rawl fans are nicely ignorant and Melee fans are aggressively ignorant,
and if you still play Smash 64 (online or competitively at tournaments), then your opinion is most valid on discussing the differences between all Smash games and the best direction for this franchise.

Thank you

I'm glad you enjoy it! It always makes me happy when I (or someone else) can show off Project M and they enjoy it. It's almost like showing someone a brand new Smash game!

That said, I have so many conflicted feelings about PM. One of the main reasons I really want Smash 4 to be solidly competitive is so that I can transition over to a "regular" game again - when I play PM I feel like I'm always intrinsically at an advantage over people who don't regularly play hacks, plus I have to compete for space/attention with the comparable Melee...

Too bad practically every character in PSASBR was chosen for advertising purposes and not actually for being a PlayStation All-Star...

Basically, yeah.

By completed I mean, character model, character art, and movesets are in a near-final (yet not 100% polished) state and ready to be shown off to the public.

Sounds like someone hasn't played TMNT: Smash Up yet. Realize that the king of Smash Bros. games is already here, and won't be eclipsed.

Nobody wants to play a fighting game competitive party platform brawler where the only character is Nathan Drake.

I think the bigger issue with PSASBR is that it was a Smash rip-off that wasn't a direct rip-off. I can name over 10 people, myself included, who would've played the SHIT out of that game had it kept the same fundamentals as Smash with blast zones and gameplay mechanics. If DreamMixTV didn't impress people, how would this game with a less-than-stellar roster impress people with similar crappy mechanics (IMO)?

Smash 64 had 12 characters, several of which many people had no idea of, just like Melee. That's why I don't think the roster of PSASBR was its biggest issue; the game was not as fun as the type of game they were marketing it as.
