I don't know what to tell you. Are you trying to use both hands? I use my left hand to hold the Vita and handle the back touch pad, while my right hand handles the front screen solo.
I've tried every method I can think of, but it just doesn't work for me. DJMAX is actually the only game I can think of that I haven't bought purely because of its controls. :/

My biggest annoyance in general with handheld touchscreen gaming is that I personally find it incredibly uncomfortable and unwieldily to hold either a vita or 3ds (xl) in one hand when I need to use the other hand for the touch screen. The natural weight of the system means that holding it with, say, my left hand is just not comfortable, as it pulls down to the right without my right hand there to support it. As such, any game with near constant touch screen controls is awkward for me, my left wrist starts to hurt after a while. I do have some lingering issues in that wrist, however, so it could be just me. This is the major reason I hate the DS zelda games and their touch controls, as it is really uncomfortable to hold a system that way.

How about if you disable the back touchpad (there's an option for this in the game)? I can understand where you're coming from, but with the back disabled, I literally have zero problems. Well, except for hard difficulty, where you'll have to pull off some olympic-level finger gymnastics if you want to play it with one hand and the back disabled.

Am I the only one who doesn't find holding the Vita with one hand awkward? Maybe I've gotten used to it, but holding a Vita with my left hand is pretty easy.

Edit: Do you mean holding it while still using the d-pad and left stick with your left hand? Then yeah, I can't do that easily either.

I've never had a problem holding my DSi XL with one hand and stylus with the other, nor have I had a problem with every other Vita game. It's just DJMAX for some reason...

If the option existed in the demo, I've probably already tried it (it's been a while since I played it).

I never played the demo, so I can't say if it was in it. But I really think you should reconsider and try this game. It's incredibly fun and definitely in my top 5 Vita games. And I have most Vita games and am not much of a rhythm fan. Or, at the very least, retry the demo and see if it does have the option to disable the back touchpad, because I just can't imagine anyone having difficulty holding the vita with one hand and playing with the other (except for had difficulty, lol, do I need to keep saying this part).

I'm pretty certain that either the demo doesn't have the option to disable back touchpad, or you missed it. If you're fine with every other Vita game, you should be fine with DJ Max on easy and normal. Literally just hold it with one hand, and tap with the other.

It's not the rear touchpad I have a problem with, it's the entire touchscreen control scheme. I've looked up videos of how people play the game on their Vitas, and most of them either don't work for me (like the method you told me about) or aren't practical (laying the Vita on a flat surface while playing).

I never got to experience the "claw" thing firsthand, but I imagine I got really close to it playing DJ Max.

There's just... no right way to hold the Vita.
Me either, fortunately. That looks painful.

Is the problem actually holding it, or not being able to play it with one hand? I know I've read some posts about how playing it with one hand causes you to sometimes cover the notes and thus miss the, which is somewhat valid.

If it's the holding part, just open your hand, palm up, place it on top and tap with your other hand. I'm sorry if this doesn't sound like useful advice, but I just can't fathom having difficulty holding a Vita with one hand if you don't have to worry about buttons/back touchpad.

I tried to find some images of people holding their Vitas with one hand, but surprisingly couldn't find any good ones. Maybe I should take a few pictures of how I hold it to morrow when I have time. How do you normally hold it with other games?

I won DJ Max from niche gamer.
I love the song selection but I can't get used to the touch controls..

doesn't help that it requires to tap on the beat rather than just any part of the screen :/

That's happened to me too. At this point, if I want to buy any games, I have to go dive into the Japanese $40 games. There's nothing $20 and under that I want anymore. I own everything I want.

Yay? Just a good part of my chronic buying syndrome.

I'm sort of tempted to pick up atelier meruru but I've barely even touched Totori so I'll be passing on that. Maybe if it gets a PS+ discounts like Totori did.

Kind of want to pick up Demon Gaze as well but I'm not sure if I want to commit the time that'll be required for it. First person dungeon crawling doesn't sounds tedious too

Maybe I really am the only one who's fine with the controls, lol.

And I like that you have to tap the notes. It's more exciting and fun that way. It would feel weird for me if I could just tap anywhere on the screen.

Edit: All this talk of DJ Max has gotten me in the mood to play it. I think I'll take a break from DoS and play a few songs in DJ Max now.

I play DJMax with the Vita laying on my lap/a leg or on a surface like my bed or some table/desk. I can also play it while holding the Vita with my hands but its more comfortable with the previous methods.

I would also consider one of the top 5 Vita games like another posted said.

I don't understand the complains about the touch controls of DJMAX. It plays almost like the arcade version. I even converted a lonely DJMAX arcade friend (when the arcade center closed) to a VitaBro because it feels just like the arcade machine. I feel owning the Vita Slim would be better for this game. I also have cramps playing this game since the OLED Vita is quite bulky.

I feel like the Vita is just way too big/heavy/thick for a precise touchscreen rhythm game. DJMAX Technika Q on the iPhone and even iPad plays perfectly for me.

I play with the rear touchscreen disabled.
it would be nice if they allowed buttons controls too. oh well.

I should play more. perhaps it'll get better. hahaha. my fingers are fat so I miss/disrupt my combos..

Man i had to just get rid of DoS.

I really got into it for a few weeks and then it kinda felt like i was wasting my time. Probably just because it was a f2p game and all, i know its not fair to judge a game because its f2p but man. The long load times and having to wait to heal didn't help either.

Also the temptation to drop some money for orbs was too strong.

As much as I love DJMAX, I'm also in the camp that would have preferred button controls. I've found a way to hold the Vita that makes it relatively comfortable, but at times it still feels like I'm doing finger stretches.

I actually find it harder to play with rear touch disabled.

In the Tdot, in the Tdot, whoa!

Alright, I'm definitely gonna have to take some pictures tomorrow of I I hold it.

When you say harder, you mean the difficulty, right? Because the back notes are addes to the front? Or do you mean it's harder to hold?

And out of curiosity, those of you who prefer button controls, do you play music rhythm game a lot? Maybe it's because you've gotten used to it? I don't play rhythm games much, and always found them quite difficult because I couldn't react fast enough to seeing which button to press on the screen, and the translating that to actually pressing the right button. But the touch controls in DJ Max allowed me to react faster by just following simple visual cues without having any need for me to "think" about what button to press.

And I'm glad Toronto got represented. Put a smile on my face. Though I'd never heard of that song before playing DJ Max.

My only issue with its gameplay is about the dragging notes. I've lost so many combos because my finger would get stuck a bit and miss the beat, specially on those short, consecutive vertical notes.

I don't mind touch controls, in fact Ouendan is my favorite rhythm series. Missing a note there is all my fault, while on DJMax it may not be. It gets frustrating.

Both, actually. I find it harder to play the game because everything has to be played through a single input method - and that's only difficult because of the touch controls + Vita shape. I find it's easier to use my thumbs to press the touchscreen and then quickly tap the rear touchpad with my fingers.

Also, yes, I do play a lot of rhythm games so I'm used to timing everything with button presses.

Also I'm glad a Canadian song was included, but I just find In The Tdot hilarious for some reason.

There are a couple of songs, I think Jumping and Tdot where there are consecutive, short drag notes. Drives me nuts because I'm going for the Concentration trophy.

I have an issue with the switch my PS4 is connected to. It reports to the PS4 that it can accept 7.1 LPCM (but my amp cannot decode it), so in essence the PS4 outputs 7.1, and the amp deletes a few channels, so I miss out on some sounds. Killzone for instance, the gun reloading is on one of the channels that it deletes, so I don't hear it.

Since the PS4 only has automatic options, I can't force it to 2.0 (like it's possible on PS3), forcing me to use controller audio.

That sucks :/

Are you hoping Sony will change that to add manual controls? Or eventually get a new switch/amp?

Why Vita has so many gaemz i want/get? :(

I have an insane amount of unfinished games, yesterday i bought other 2 games and i still want to buy other gaemz.

From now on i will buy only games in offer and i will start a game only after finishing another one.

I feel I have to link this, since most people here doesn't go to the "Vita is doomed" threads. I found the second really funny XD.

Man I love anecdotal stories. Here's one of mine:

One time I was minding my business on a random Thursday night in college. I get a knock on the door, turn, arch an eyebrow at my roommate who shakes his head. I open the door and find an inebriated girl who walks in as if she owns the place.

"Who are you?", she asked with a glint in her eye. Before my roommate or I could get our bearings she settled into my lap with a laugh. Wide-eyed I again looked at my roommate who had the same impression of sheer confusion.

My roommate, always more enterprising than me, decided to play some music. The girl jumped up like someone lit her anus on fire and started gyrating her hips like a seasoned pro.

And that's when I asked her: "Have you ever heard of the Playstation Vita?" She giggled curiously before opining that she had and that the NPD numbers were shit. Then she walked out of the room with a huff.

I never got her name and sometimes in the dead of the night, when only the very brave travelers brave the stars and moon, I think about what could have been if I had mentioned the 3DS instead.

Cigar smoke. The sound of rain pattering on the window behind me. Ay, it was a night like any other. I lean back in my leather throne, prop my tired legs on my desk, and turn on the radio. Just static tonight, damn this weather. I open the bottom drawer on my desk to grab a bottle of whiskey when she walks in.

You may think you know this girl, but you never seen nothin' like her. Long black hair. Tall as I am. Eyes that could kill. A bosom you could lose yourself in. She got a look'n her face like she owns me and the god damned horse I rode in on. What on earth a girl like this'd want with me, I got no idea.

So she reaches in this long black jacket she got on, and drops this folder right on my desk. It's for a job, she tells me. Imma bit scared what kind of work this girl came here for, but hell if I ain't interested, so I open it up. And then I know. Oh, I know exactly what this lady's looking to buy, but I ain't interested in sellin'. Some things in life more important than money.

"Sorry, miss," I tell her, "Can't help ya." She leans over the desk, all sultry like, puttin' that giant bosom right in my face. Dirty trick, that is, but I know better. She whispers in my ear, tellin' me she knows I have the info she's looking for. Tells me she'll make it worth my while. She unbuttons that black jacket slowly, and I cannot tell a lie, what she's hidin' under there is mighty temptin'. More than I know what to do with. But I ain't that kind of man. I'd never betray the love of my life for some harlot off the street.

"Ma'am, while I appreciate the offer," I says to her, "what you're askin' for's worth way more to me than all them 3DS games you got there." She buttons back up, a furious look in'r eyes. One day, she tells me, Imma regret this. The people she works for are very powerful people, and my kind ain't gonna last much longer. She storms out my office, never to return. I reach into my drawer and grab that bottle o' whiskey, and my pure white Vita. God, she's a sight for sore eyes. When I turn on that gorgeous OLED display, my love is waiting for me, always there.

"Don't you worry your little head about that girl, baby," I tells her. "You know you're mai only waifu."

"TRIAL OF THE DRAGON," she cries from behind her plastic screen protector. She looks into my eyes, and mine look right back into hers. Ain't no lady of the night ever gonna separate me and my Chie.

When is Sony going to update May PS+ games?

Genesis collection, yay or nay?

Nay unless you are retro masochist or want easy platinium (I'm assuming you are speaking about PS3 version)

nah, the Vita version!

Ok Gaf I need to choose between Demon Gaze, Conception 2, and FFX HD, help me out because I am having a rough time choosing but I need a new RPG to play on my Vita and who knows when Oreshika is actually coming out.

FFX if you're interested in the whole package. Story, gameplay etc...
Demon Gaze if you like dungeon crawlers and grinding.
Conception 2 - from what I read isn't that good. Decent, but that's it. Both Demon Gaze and Conception 2 have a lot of fanservice.

Personally, I'd recommend FFX - it's an awesome game. You can also choose whether you want to skip grinding altogether or do it for the endgame content.

FFXHD will last you the longest and is probably the safest choice. Demon Gaze is great too, especially if you enjoy first-person dungeon crawlers. I didn't really like the Conception 2 demo.

Cool thanks for the recommendations X is the only FF available on Vita that I don't currently own for it so I will most likely grab that, then Demon Gaze alittle later in the month.

Hopefully X runs well on Vita? The screens look decent enough.

GAF, what is the best order to play Ys-series? I got my Vita a week ago and I noticed that Memories of Celceta has been well received. I remember watching Happy Console Gamer's (Youtube) videos but I know nothing about the series. Just felt that they might be some nice RPGs to play on the Vita.

So I went to Wikipedia and... it seems that figuring out the "correct" (?) order of these games is not exactly simple.

I & II: on PSN.
Origin: only on Steam?
The Oath of Felghana (remake of the third game?): on PSN.

Then IV and V were only released in Japan?

Ark of Napissdg (VI)... something: PS2 (It's not available on EU PSN, and I don't own a PSP).
Ys SEVEN: on PSN.

So I basically have three questions:
1. Did I get that totally wrong?
2. Is Memories of Celceta a good place to start? I just thought that it's probably the most "modern" of the games. So it would be the best way to find out if I like the series at all?
3. How hard are they to get into?

Thanks!

It runs (almost) flawless, there are some parts where the framerate dips but only in cutscenes with a lot of NPCs on the screen at the same time.

During normal gameplay you will never notice anything.
It's a great port/remake all around.

Which of these recent PS+ vita games should I dive into first?

Stealth Inc
Thomas Was Alone
Unit 13
Lone Survivor

1) Largely correct, yeah. Memories of Celceta is now the canon Ys 4, considering it's the first version of Ys 4 that's developed by Falcom. With that said
2) With one notable exception (Ys 2, which nowadays can't be bought without the required Ys 1), the entire series is episodic. There's basically nothing that you need to know about the other games in order to jump into a specific one. In that case, Memories of Celceta would be a great place to start.
3) Not hard at all.

Why are PSN downloads so slow on PS3? I bought Persona 4 last night and let it download overnight... it's been 13 hours...

This is insane. I could've invented time travel, went back in time, bought a PS2 and P4 and come back to the present by the time it finishes...

Most of the "omg y is the PS3 wifi so slow" issues are hardware related, as in, the old ass PS3 wifi chip doesn't like your router or something similar so it might be that.
