If I was on the team, I'd walk out. Might be selfish in context of the team, but I'd do it for everyone else.

Sanjuro's position borders on the absurd.

It really isn't. It's also the position the players and coach are taking as well. I wouldn't consider them wrong for sitting out, I just understand why they are not.

You also brought up a ton of comparisons which aren't really meshing with anything going on in the NBA today.

This whole Doc Rivers is an Uncle Tom because he coached in racist Boston is possibly the worst GAF sports argument I have read in awhile.
Did someone actually say that? Haha

I believe you can protest without a boycott. The most provocative approach isn't necessarily the wisest.

Clippers are not worth a billion. They don't have their own stadium, and are locked into shitty TV+radio deals.

The Milwaukee Bucks just sold for $550 million. Given its recent success, stars in Blake Griffin and Chris Paul and location I don't think a billion is too far off.

NAACP was about to give this guy a lifetime achievement award too. You just never know, man. I'd hate to be the new commissioner right now.

Sterling already received the NAACP Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009, but I guess they were going to give it to him AGAIN (but cancelled).
How do you get a Lifetime Achievement Award twice?

More often than not, you do. A guy settling racial discrimination cases that had extensive documentation of racial animus getting a lifetime achievement award just shows how much of a joke the NAACP is.

Lets not forget that this man has the right to voice his racist, stupid opinions. He hasn't physically hurt anyone or broken any laws. Was it irresponsible considering his position? Absolutely! Should he be fined? You betcha. Should the NBA banish him forever? I don't think so.

Also, if his flowerpot-headed woman sleeps with him despite knowing he a bigot, she's just as disgusting as he is and deserves her fair share of vitriol. Share the hate.

One last thought: He's probably not the only racist sports team owner. Buying and trading people appeals to a certain kind of disposition.

If the NBA want to banish him, they can. He represents an NBA team, and thus the NBA as well. Freedom of speech applies to the government, ie, you can't be put to jail or arrested for voicing your opinion. For everything else, watch your mouth.

I thought he was getting away without a much hassle?

NBA's official stance is that Donald Sterling agreed to not go to Oakland for tonight's game of Clippers at Golden State (but he doesn't go on Road games anyway so this isn't a punishment) while they investigate.

I just can't see how the NBA can sweep this under the rug, this was a slow burner that is going to rage for a while. This isn't some one off thing.

MJ said nothing?

Michael Jordan says he is both disgusted and outraged by the racist comments allegedly made by Clippers owner Donald Sterling - @AP

and this is the pic he was upset about.

They'll suspend him and he'll eventually sell the team because he won't be able to get players to sign for him. Then again he was ok being terrible for a long time before

The totality of the comments is really bizarre.

It's ok for him to date a mixed race half-black lady.
It's cool for her to have sex with black guys.
Taking a picture with a famous black guy and posting it to instagram is the kind of thing that really bothers him.. or his friends apparently

I think Adam Silver is going to flub this whole thing up... justice needs come by tomorrow before this starts to really spread even more

Pretty much, I mean I don't even know how else I can spin this.

TMZ just released more extended recordings of the Donald Sterling phone call and just when you think it cant get worse it does.

He clear as day states that "Black jews are worth less than white jews" and that "Blacks are treated like dogs elsewhere so his views don't mean he is racist"
I cannot see how any person with self respect would just go out there and play.

Clippers player need to boycott the game/rest of the season honestly. Granted it is the playoffs but that is the only way to truly send a strong message.

She's getting sued by Sterling for embezzlement and I guess this is her "payback" for that lawsuit. Fuck her for even being with that old fart for the most obvious of reasons.

In his statement, Jordan said he has two different perspectives on the racist comments -- one as an owner and the other as a former player.

"As an owner, I'm obviously disgusted that a fellow team owner could hold such sickening and offensive views," Jordan said. "I'm confident that Adam Silver will make a full investigation and take appropriate action quickly. As a former player, I'm completely outraged.

"There is no room in the NBA -- or anywhere else -- for the kind of racism and hatred that Mr. Sterling allegedly expressed. I am appalled that this type of ignorance still exists within our country and at the highest levels of our sport. In a league where the majority of players are African-American, we cannot and must not tolerate discrimination at any level."

Awesome. That's what I want to see. Jordan should take the lead from the ownership perspective. He's well liked, was a former player, considered the best player ever, an owner, an African American owner. Besides the demographic of women who look like Prince, no one can challenge him or his credibility.

Let's remind ourselves that it was the Philly chapter of the NAACP that took a big dump on McNabb for 'reasons'.

He's just saying that shit to save face. He can give two shits about this.

What I don't understand is no one is asking who is Don Sterling talking about when he says "they" don't like it his culture. Is he talking about the people he associates with? if so the problem is much bigger than Don Sterling there is a network of people that share his views that are in position of power.

I actually don't think the players should boycott.

They should sit in. Do warm-ups and pre-game stuff as usual. Then right before tip, sit on the court and stay until the problem is fixed.

We can probably most players making $5 million a year won't really 'care' as much. I don't think they'll lose sleep over this. But their 'actions' and statements can be useful. I would hope Jordan makes more of this than a statement. But I'll give him some credit.

An NBA owner who is a racist.
Talk about cognitive dissonance.

He should make it so that his team only hires white people.

Not to pick on you and others who keep saying this shit, but I think it needs to be pointed out how warped and ignorant many people are on what racism is. This mentality that you can't be racist if you associate with blacks or hire them (or have black friends) is simplistic, and highlights how views on race have shifted over the last few decades.

Sterling isn't banning black players from playing on his team or burning crosses in black people's houses, therefore he isn't racist in the eyes of many people. Or in the case of this post: Sterling is racist yet pays black people millions of dollars, therefore there is "cognitive dissonance." That's simply not what's going on here. Sterling sells a product, and black people help him sell it; they make him millions of dollars every year. He can be racist while still profiting off the people he dislikes. People are complex, race is complex, and racism is complex. It's not "I hate all black people and will never shake their hand or associate with them." Not even the KKK worked like that for the most part.
