Exactly. Also people have mentioned previous incidents so i don't think and ofp players are "surprised" by this. It's in the public eye now so now they are reacting

People clinging to this one game boycott are just ridiculous. If anything, the NBA is going out of its way to make sure that it stays in a position to capitalize on this in the perfect way so that they can finally get rid of this guy.

I was outspoken on that topic too. While all of the things I would have liked to happen didn't happen, I wasn't surprised with the overall outcome. NCAA prints money. They weren't going to stop that for abused children unfortunately.

I think you are comparing sterling's past to his present comments and it's kind of apples to oranges. Sterling has discrimination claims against him from the past, right now however he directly talks about what he feels about black people. If the players and coach had known the extent of his feelings. Do people in this thread honestly believe that the players would of still wanted to play for him?
 
Unfortunate situation for sure.

But none of the blame should be place or focused on the players or staff. I sure as hell wouldn't turned down millions to make a point that if the tape is legit will be proven regardless. The audio is daming enough. Boycotting wouldn't do anything extra... Plus I think he is covered by law from any major damage anyway as this happened against his will and off hours.

But regardless of any of that, I doubt I'd turn down a paycheck sorry... I also wouldn't lay down and get bodied either tho
 
Few people would love Sterling to be outed more than dedicated NBA fans, but it's much much more complicated than getting a racist boss at the office fired. Not much of anything of lasting effect will occur.

Funny how Bill Simmons is linked to The Clips and Boston Celtics, coincidence?

I understand that your perspective on this is largely coming from a place of, "we need to stop talking about what the right thing to do is because either way it's not going to happen. There's too much money involved." And on that level I agree. But I don't think that should stop us from at least vocally condemning this sack of shit and expecting better from the league.

Yes. As long he cuts the checks, he's still an employer who's going to have people show up to work.

Outside of rookies, and most trades, people are willingly showing up in LA to play for this guy because his checks clear.

Its not a valid comparison at all. Mainly because slaves never got paid millions of dollars or were able to willingly choose their employer. There's another dynamic in play there, yes, but its not called slavery.

(The property supervisor, Sumner Davenport, sued Sterling for sexual harassment. She lost.)

It's confusing because in that ESPN footage, the reporter said it shocked Magic but at the same time they knew each other well. So how could he be shocked if he knew how he was before this audio recording?

Sterling is a piece of shit though. We know this. The problem that I and many others have is two things

1) putting the entire thing on the players (like they should boycott or something... now, after cashing checks for so long because the money is indeed legit)
2) the shock of finally realizing that one of the biggest racists in america is still racist

maybe by the end of the year he's gone, but i seriously doubt it because he's dodged much bigger bullets than this.

This is a really unsettling pattern--Sterling saying the most blatantly racist things and then immediately questioning whether or not you think he's racist for saying them.

Like, how could he possibly think he's not racist? How could a man this old, and this experienced hold such damning opinions but truly believe they're not racist because they employ these "beautiful black bodies."

Kind of terrible to think about, actually.

I don't think anyone who follows the sport disputes that DTS is a racist piece of shit. It's never been a secret. It just hasn't been covered as widely as this latest incident.

The court of public opinion bullet which he is now in because of his comments might be the biggest one yet. If the nba wants to restore it's image then they will do everything possible to get sterling to sell the franchise. I don't know if it will happen but hopefully it does.

NBA (all the other owners) owned the Hornets, of course that trade would be blocked. Half of the other owners are in small markets and can't stand the owners who have large market teams. Which I think is stupid because those large market owners probably payed more for their teams too... of course the asset should be more valuable.

I still don't see why the unacquainted should be excluded from giving an opinion. I don't follow the Clippers. WHO follows the Clippers? Why is it expected we know the owner's history of bigotry? Now that it's brought to my attention I should fall back because I wasn't there when he said something mean in the locker room?

I understand it's very complicated and contracts are at play etc. For me it isn't about what he said, rather the impunity that likely comes with it. I think 'slavery' is an apt comparison. Shit like this just continues to prove how little power these (mostly Black) players have. It pisses me off. Not to suggest other people/races aren't apart of the NBA's success, but come on. Surely there has to be leverage in numbers.

I mean, yeah, racism = bad, but everyone would be doing themselves a favor if they kept tabs on stuff like massive housing discrimination and the domino effect it causes.

How can the NBA simply take away his ownership of the Clippers? I admit I know nearly nothing about how the contracts work or whatever; but, I keep hearing this, "The NBA should take his team away, should force him to resign, etc."

How is this possible? I mean, would they have to refund him the money that he has invested in the organization?

Clippers players did some awesome shit before he game. I wouldn't play for that team after those comments

It's tough. I'm not a lawyer, or know all the exact issues Silver is going to be facing from the opposition.

From my understanding he can banish him from day to day operations, kind of like what they did with Steinbrenner years ago, or McCourt. That would be the quick fix. Then with support from the league owners, I'm sure they can force the hand beginning a transfer of ownership. Some owners may be skeptical, because they would fear a incident of varying degree may result in their disposal just as quick.

Someone summed it up before stating that Silver essentially works for Sterling. It's not a simple task at hand.

tbh who cares about her golddigging. Yes she exhibited self hate on that tape but she exposed a virulent racist who owns a major sports team. I applaud her regardless of her motives.

Yah, I'm not seeing how this is going to be possible for the NBA. Each instance that is referenced deals with additional issues, typically dealing with financial issues. Simply removing someone due to behavior that is unbecoming of an owner is not going to work. It would set a huge precedent, one that I don't think they want to make.
