I've only allocated 60$ for gaming this month,
since I'm coming back to college to finish the last 10 units on my course
, and Sony is taking it all (LOL).
My list would probably look like this:
Atelier Totori +
Atelier Meruru +
Muramasa R
DBZ
and one of the chrono games.

If I would to choose one of the Chrono games, what would I buy? Or should I avoid them since they might be plagued by framerate problems or issues.

I personally think chrono Cross is mediocre, so chrono Trigger.

If you want to save some money, dropping one of the atelier games may be a good idea. This is not the first time they are on sale and being rpgs, they probably take a long time to finish anyway.

true. oh well. yeap I got the full credits (bought all 4 games)
Looks like a solid list. I wouldn't double-dip on digital versions of PS3 games though, especially since the PS3 isn't a portable system. Haven't played Saint Seiya and SoulCalibur V, but I might get SCV on sale too.

My list:

Will buy:
Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection (Vita)
Ys: Memories of Celceta

Might buy:
Atelier Meruru Plus
Devil May Cry HD Collection
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Tales of Symphonia Chronicles
SoulCalibur V

guess I should just wait for a even lower digital sale of those HD collections?
hmm. DBZ worth getting the PS3 version too? I've already got the Vita game.

hmm Saint Seiya is $15... if it's like $7.50 it would have been must-buy lol

I don't really think it is necessary to double dip anything, unless you intend to sell off your physical games. Then again, ps3 physical games don't sell for much these days.

As for DBZ, I believe the game is identical across vita and ps3, so no reason to get it img.

hmm hoping to migrate to a digital library if possible
it's much more convenient anyway -and less obvious to people how much I spent on games :X-

hmm any thoughts on Armored Core?
I bought most of my PS3 games on cheap anyway -Black Friday <3... and most of them are like still sealed-

You should keep your physical game collection to help control your video game spending then. :P

Me too, I don't understand why HSG Vita isn't on sale.

me three :(

hahaha I should stop my compulsive indiebundles (steam) buying ><
something has to stop

or I need to somehow monetize my interest in gaming

Bah this sale. I just bought Muramasa, Danganronpa and Chrono Trigger two weeks ago, and I haven't played a single one yet. Thats $30 I could have used on other things! It never bothers me buying a game for full price that goes to PS+ or on sale later unless I don't play it at all before it goes on sale. Now it just feels like my own impatience bit me in the ass.

Oh well, I will mourn my lost money by buying even more games during this sale. Picking up ToS for sure, and I really want to double dip on P4G so I can switch my physical games more freely.

If I would to choose one of the Chrono games, what would I buy? Or should I avoid them since they might be plagued by framerate problems or issues.

Chrono Trigger on PS1 is pretty bad. Theres a 3-4 second load time every time you bring up the menu, enter a new area, or enter a battle.

I have the disk version (FF Chronicles) and played it on my Playstation consoles that way. Not sure if digital PSN version is any better or improved, but i doubt it.

Good thing Monsters HD is free, or I would have terribly regretted it. Stealth Inc is surprisingly entertaining though.

Add:
The answer is to get married and let your wife handle the money.

I'm not married myself, but from observing my parents, my mother tends to be the compulsive spender.

Definitely getting both Chrono games. Hopefully I can deal with the load times of Trigger, but I have almost no prior experience with the game so I think I should be alright. Cross will be saved for after I finish Trigger. $3.49 for each is a steal. I'll probably get Rain too.

Dunno if I'll get anything else. I want to get games physically if possible so that nullifies a lot of things on sale in my eyes. :P
May still get MGS Vita though. We'll see

I don't know if it's the right thread to ask but does anyone have an extra PS plus trial they can spare? I would like to purchase metal gear hd collection with the discount. Thank you.

Great sale! I would buy a lot of these if I didn't have to renew my ps plus subscription :(

Anyone knows of a good deal on a one-year membership?

Man, I really wish HSG was for Vita. I'd be all over that for $5.

Why don't you grab the game now? It's just $13.5 on the store. Not much of a difference.

How much money should I stockpile if I plan on rebuying Persona 1-3 whenever they go on sale? I'm thinking around $35 will be a sufficient amount.

Sony sure is going all out with Freedom Wars. They've released a lot of trailers in the past few days. Hope we get a "real" gameplay trailer before release. Something played by the developers, or somebody who actually knows how to play the game properly.

After finishing Broken Sword i made the tutorial dungeon and the first real dungeon in Sorcery Saga, as expected i like the game, too bad for the limited inventory.
The main character is so adorable lol, i cheer for the evil lord though lol

Also, I played Ys: MoC through to platinum trophy and never once did I think "these graphics aren't very good" until I read some threads here, so take that for what it's worth. Though I guess by now I am so used to indies ranging from pixel to PSone graphics that I neither noticed nor did it detract in any way.

I found the combat in Ys to be among the most satisfying in any Action RPG I have ever played, found 5/6 of the characters to be interesting story/personality/playstyle wise (screw you so hard Ozma), and really liked most of the games systems. I guess I understand the cons people have when talking about the game, but honestly, I played it through to the (very annoying and frustrating) platinum trophy just because I had so much fun playing it that I wanted more, so I would recommend this game to most people who like ARPGs.

One word of warning, I suggest you look up in a faq or something what the random crap you loot throughout the game actually does. This game is heavily one of those "I keep looting this crap and have no idea if I should sell it or keep it" kind of deals, and the trading up for better stuff system is super non-intuitive. Just to avoid a bit of unnecessary confusion like I had at the start.

So they announce a Clannad port to vita? Awesome. Only lacks Kanon and Ever 17 to be the best console ever for VNG.

Wait what? Man I would sell three of my first born sons for an english localization and release, this is one of only two anime to ever make me actually cry my own tears (and not hate it afterwards).

Metal Gear Legacy seems to be back in stock and regular price at Amazon, don't know if this is old news.

I really don't know why i want it so bad, i own MGS 1 and 4 and Peace Walker, and have MGS 3 for PS2. The only game i didn't finish was MGS 2.

Thinking of getting the HD Collection instead tommorow on sale, but i kinda want a physical copy of Legacy. Dammit.

So if I would have to drop one atelier, what would I drop. although I keep on hearing that meruru spoils the ending of totori. meruru's gameplay wabetter though. supposedly

Go for Totori. As in, drop Meruru. It's been a while, but I enjoyed Totori more. I still need to finsih Meruru, though. I'm about 2/3 through it.

Thanks Vitabros. Now, I'll only spend 30$ on that sale. I can now know what they are talking about. I still don't want to drop the Japanese carts of the games though. The boxart were pretty good looking.
Unless Monster Monpiece drops "stealthy" this month. It is coming this summer right?

Whoa, good thing I held out on Soul Sacrifice yesterday. The Golden Week sale is insane. Muramasa, Ys, both Chrono games and MGS2 coming my way tomorrow. Now I only need to finally order that 64gb card.

hmm does Vita compresses .PNG files?
I tried to upload a wallpaper to abload (instead of imgur) and the png file is more blurry than the jpg file uploaded via imgur

The vita compresses every picture that enters the device, I think. Even screenshots were not spared from this. The results are very apparent on the Portable Consoles pics thread. Almost every screens are compressed to oblivion.

those are some nice sales... if they hadn't made it so i could finally break the 100 app limit, i'd probably buy a few of those cheap Vita games just to have digital versions... i picked up super cheap Rayman Origins, Hot Shots Golf, Lumines etc off PSN when i had like 25GB of free space that i wasn't able to fully utilize

plus i still haven't resubbed to PS+, so it's the middle price for me

just going to finally buy Chrono Cross i guess... never wanted to spend $10 on it for some reason

If gaf says that these graphics are shit:

You would expect the same treatment for this:

Instead most of gaf said that those were good graphics! :|
People has all the rights to like YS' graphics but i really can't suffer those who use double standards only because one is called "YS" and the others not.

What? I haven't seen many people praising Ys Celceta's graphics here.

Great sale, was going to get ZOEHD and DMCHD on disc but this is too cheap to pass up. Has anyone played AC Verdict Day? Don't usually play mech games but for $5 I'm willing to give it a shot.

Art style goes a long way.
My thoughts about YS art style:
1)graphics != art style
2)What does remain of the that (amazing?)art style in that blurry, low poly, low res mess? Even PSP games convey the art style betterwith their clear and native res graphics.
3)is that art style really that good? Imo it's one of the most generic anime stuff
4)ragnarok odissey models and general art style is really similar, but i have never seen anyone praising it.

Maybe you missed some YS threads.

Maybe you missed some YS threads.

I read a lot of topics around the time Ys Celceta came out, and most were complaining about the graphics. I'm sure there were a few who liked it, but that also goes for the other games you listed, so I don't think there is a bias in favour of Ys.

Oh, and I've seen RO being praised for it's artstyle. Some people like the bright, colourful visuals.

What games are the first two pictures? I see Ragnarok Odyssey and Valhalla Knights 3 there.

Anyway, I don't understand how somebody can think those graphics look good. They don't. The game looks quite blurry and that can't be denied.

Bad graphics won't make Ys a worse game though.

Maybe you missed some YS threads.
Of course fans who post in Ys threads are going to defend a series they enjoy. Still though, Ys Celceta character models aren't that bad especially compared to those in Valhalla Knights 3.

do you have a link???

Silent Hill, I think.

I wasn't actually defending the graphics of Ys, I don't think they are anything special. I more meant that I was enjoying the mechanics and gameplay so much that the graphics didn't factor into my mind until other people mentioned it. Though honestly every screenshot posted all seems perfectly fine to me, so I guess I just don't care about graphics that much? I love great graphics, but bad ones rarely detract for me if a game is excellent otherwise, as I felt Ys was when I played it. I also really liked the style of Ys, but I am a big fan of anime stylings in RPG settings, and I thought the anime style character portraits for dialog (bottom left of screenshot) were really well done. I guess that style is polarizing though.

I guess I am weird tho, I can easily tell 720p vs 1080p on my TV, but I cannot tell sub native vs native games on vita apart, and I definitely can't perceive any difference in FPS over 30. I could just be mistaking low resolution for low textures or something.

Newer topics are more fair, but older ones were not, trust me because i posted there saying the same things

Silent Hill Book of Memories

In what world a model that has a completely plain face with a texture pasted on it
ys-memories-of-celceta-02.jpg

is better than a face with modeled eyes, nose, mouth?

Do you like YS art style more? Ok, but YS character models are hands down the least complex of the bunch.

Bitching about a games graphics when the series is known for its gameplay and music. Doing it right.
Should i close my eyes because the game is good? I'm the first to like many terrible looking games, but i won't deny that a game has bad graphics only because i like it.

I was talking in general, i was not pointing directly to you ;)
As i already said people has all the rights to like YS graphics, i don't like those who at the same time despise other games with similar graphics.

I'm playing a few other games right now (picked up two in the last week), so I'll probably just wait for a sale or PS+ in the future. $5 would just hit that "can't pass up" price for me.
