Donald Sterling (slum lord and LA Clippers Owner).. yeah, still a racist scum bag

This is the one thing about this story that is sort of bugging me to be completely honest. The typical fake outrage from the media is one thing. This is not even the worst, most racist thing Sterling has done but where were the calls from Skip and Stephen A., or the rest of the talk radio mouthpieces, for Sterling to be suspended before? They had the power to make this a story a long time ago and chose not to. Same with the older heads in the NBA, which includes Doc Rivers and, to some extent, Chris Paul. 2 minutes on Google is all it takes to realize, long before this story broke, that Sterling is a deplorable human being, yet that didn't stop Doc from taking his money and, on top of that, he had the nerve today to claim he had no idea Sterling was like this. Give me a break. Same thing with Paul. I keep saying it but dude is the President of the Players Union. That job comes with responsibility and he could have set an example by choosing not to resign with Sterling this past summer and take his money but chose not to. And now he wants to turn his shirt inside out and wear a black arm band?

It's almost like the story getting out has embarrassed not only Sterling (rightfully so) but also everyone else in the media and the rest of the people around the league (like Doc) who kept this kind of stuff quiet until TMZ broke a story that could no longer be ignored.

Yea, well said. No one should ever try and defend this guy's statements but the all of the sudden outrage is hilarious.

So he's cool with his g/f having sex with other people? I guess he knows he's old as shit and she's only with him for the money and he can't stop her because she's young and attractive, but then why does he publicly date a girl who identifies as mexican/black though? Racists are so stupid they can't even be consistent

This is the first thing he's really had to do. Give him a chance to actually do something.

Fine! Not that he can do much in this case. Fines, suspension?

Wilbon thinks the young billionaire owners will help force him out, based on the few he's spoken to (from Kornheiser's show today) but I still doubt it.

I used to work in Monroe, Georgia and there was this drunk, racist asshole that used to come in named Wild Bill. He was flirting with one of the black ladies that worked there and she called him out on being a racist, and said he needed to stop flirting with her.

His response?

"Just 'cause I hate niggers don't mean I hate nigger pussy."

Pretty much. Everybody has a price.

Thats what this whole thing comes down to. People knew he was like this but nobody reacted because they had to "support their family and there neck". You can tell they didn't want this to come out in the open, and now that it is, they have to react. Its amazing when you hear players and the Inside NBA guys talk about this. The common answer for awhile was "well we need to worry bout the game and the fans because that's all that matters" then they backpedaled completely after the 2nd tape "oh uhhh well lets handle this and fire him".

Sterling isn't the only owner that thinks like that and not just NBA. As long as the check clears its all good yall

Regardless of sterling's action in the past, his comments of recent deserve outrage. People being incensed by the recent media coverage is being ridiculous to me.

I certainly think people have a right to point out how terrible his comments are and I'm a huge fan of Jalen Rose and most of the stuff he's done in the media. Comparing yourself to a slave working on a plantation is a bit much and is analogous to click bait.

Well unfortunately I never knew this guy was a racist beforehand since I don't follow NBA but now that it's out in the public the NBA needs to come down hard. It's fucking ridiculous they haven't done something yet. Whether he's always been one it's time to punish this shit.

I think what many people fail to understand is that the players don't see themselves as slaves on a plantation. It's sterling's view of them that people like jalen rose are pissed about. He sees them as nothing more than almost literally slaves where they make him money, earn their own keep but are never to be see with outside of the field.

Can a longtime Cincinnati Reds fans compare the Sterling incident with the Red's owner whose name i can't remember in terms of public outcry and reactions from the league and players?

Rockets Owner wants Sterling out of the league.

Believes Silver can allow every Clipper to become a Free Agent to force Sterling's hand.

He told Silver "he should stab “a sword” into the heart of Sterling’s ownership of the Clippers."

Time for Blake and CP to step up to varsity

Then stop posting right there.

Understood; this isn't the time or place to bring that up.

It is an outrage that around the same time David Stern was cracking down on his players with dress codes and culling out any display of defiance or attitude, Sterling was being sued by the US government for housing discrimination and saying black tenants "stank and attracted vermin"
Was he punished by the league for it? of course not.

please don't get my hopes for a cp3 Blake laker possibility. I'd legit cry tears of joy.

But then toss pringles and get doc.

I don't know. I can believe that they didn't know his past/background. It's not like everyone does a background check before working for someone.

With regards to having two teams in LA., isn't this similar to NY? The area is big enough to support two teams. People choose Mets vs Yankees, Jets vs Giants, etc.

Marge Schott was a racist old tightass baghole who was rightly suspended for some of her statements and was pushed out of the ownership role thanks in part to them.

Why do people think silver won't do anything? If the other owners want it then he'll be out

Also LOL at clippers players going to other teams

There's no way Silver does something as drastic as making all the players free agents at least not anytime soon. That would absolutely destroy the value for any potential future owner.

Sheit. Going to play for a racist to going to play with a rapist. That would be the day. HAHA. Lakers fans getting some false hopes.

Silver ain't blowing up the team. That team needs to be keeping its value as high as possible so Sterling can get his payday and walk when he sells the team. Only way that fool is even considering selling is if someone over pays and he gets way more than what it is worth, I'd imagine.

It's all about critical mass. Shit doesn't get done unless enough of the right amount of people are invested. There should be more studies on group psychology to go over this phenomena.

Again, the team's value will plummet very soon if he doesn't sell now. They have literally no sponsors left. None of the players nor the coaches will want to be there next year. Fans won't want to attend games. If he sells now, he could get about a billion for the team most likely. If not, the team value could plunge to around 3-400 million. The Bucks sold for around $550 million, but at least their value wasn't soiled by previous owners.

I totally agree with you. I was just saying, in my own idiotic ways, was that if the league and owners want him out, the last thing they want to do is cause the value of the team to plummet more by making the players free agents. Great idea if you want to make some kind of statement, but bad idea if you're looking to get the guy to sell.

If he digs his heels in and tries to prolong everything, then by all means do what you need to do at that point. For now, though, try to get him to sell while the selling is good for him.

Agreed.

The problem is that the loss of sponsors doesn't mean anything to a buyer because they will just get them all back as soon as Sterling is gone.

^^ The last thing this dude deserves is to get a massive payday for being an asshole.

That's pretty much the only way that the NBA will be able to get the team away from him though.

The problem is that the loss of sponsors doesn't mean anything to a buyer because they will just get them all back as soon as Sterling is gone.

That's not a bad thing though. The loss of sponsors along with a potential suspension, fines and whatever else the NBA can get away with will all serve as a way to make owning the Clippers be as awful as possible for Sterling.

It's upsetting that groupie stories get all this coverage but black and mexican people being denied housing for no rational reason was apparently no big deal.

As soon as that happens, Dell Demps needs to get on the phone and bring Chris Paul back home.

Are people done hating on MJ now that he's said something about this?

Nope, he's still a self-absorbed piece of shit who has done absolutely nothing of worth with the platform he has. Good job not staying silent for once, though, Mike.

I agree although I guess the main difference between this situation and his prior issues is that those were always "alleged" and handled in court, whereas this is a clear recording being blasted all over the TV/radio/internet for all to hear. It's easy to forget about stuff that is not so blatant as what we have here.

At least I believe that's the case, I don't think he's been caught out like this before correct?
