Edit: Thanks for putting this in the first response where it belongs, Lik.

It's his property, you can force him to sell it in the NBA but forcing unfair value for it would set a really bad precedent.

The league is going to work as hard as it can to make sure its preferred ownership group (magic) gets the clippers for as little as possible in the coming months. This whole thing was a setup from the get-go. Donald Sterling made himself too easy of a target

Suprised but Bravo, Now it's on the owners to put the final nail in coffin by voting 3/4 in favor of forcing a sell. Doing the right thing for the league or voting in their own self interests.

LA is a bigger market, Clippers are close to the top ten in team value...why the hell would they go to Seattle?

Because the Seattle group will offer far more than any other prospective ownership group. Just as they have for every team that has gone up for sale the last couple years.

says who? it all depends on who is buying it. LA is the better option, but it moving is not impossible.
The NBA would have to approve the move. Why in the world would they allow that to happen to an up and coming LA franchise?

I should also add that the Clippers are almost assuredly locked into a contract with the Staples Center.

How can he be fined if he's being banned? It's not a court order.. whats they worst they can do if he doesn't pay? Obviously he will pay to try and save face, but it just seems stupid.

Its his team. What do you guys expect?

No one can just force him away from his business with no rewards. Batman isn't real

I would have dissolved the team, seized any assets I could that rightfully belong to the NBA since the Clippers are a franchise of the NBA, drafted any players willing to relocate and left that old racist fuck with nothing but a dead franchise on his hands. See how much that's worth.

Holy shit -- good on Adam Silver for having the guts to do this.

Regarding the 2.5m fine -- I wouldn't think that the NBA has the power to fine an owner for something non-basketball related, but I guess so... Especially an owner who has been banned.

Ever hear Mel Gibson on tape?

Yeah. That was more heart breaking because he was one of my childhood heroes and scary because he was so violent in tone.

This one is just idiotic sounding. I can't believe this is a business owner who makes millions and works with people to make huge deals on a daily basis. He sounds like a racist Micheal Scott.

It was easy to rally behind this because it is on tape live and techno color. But folks knew this dude was like this for decades, the federal government SUED him for being racist as fuck. But now that he got okey doke by his side piece the NBA commission.wants to grow some balls?

It's funny how nobody is mentioning the $2.5 million fine. Small taters to sterling but it's more than most people make in a lifetime

Good for him being banned but the guy is so wealthy and has so much power he probably will laugh and toss a few diamonds into whatever he's drinking tonight.

Can't clippers front office people just start spending all the money and donating all the profits since he cant control any NBA aspects of his business?

LA is a bigger market, Clippers are close to the top ten in team value...why the hell would they go to Seattle?

Guess who is higher in the league valuation than the Clips? OKC. Do you think Oklahoma is a bigger market than Seattle? Is it bigger than LA? Seattle can make money, the landscape has changed. Winnipeg lost their hockey team in the mid 90s because their revenue was at the bottom. Today they're middle-of-the-pack.

It would be fucking awesome if Magic bought the team. Poetic justice. And I've read numerous accounts of people not being surprised that Sterling made those comments. So I don't believe he misspoke or was just having a bad day and decided to say hurtful things. That's the dude's concrete mindset. Glad NBA acted swiftly on this.

Not much to say here but "good". You're free to say what you want in America, but you're not immune from the consequences. Sterling deserved no less than a lifetime ban - I'm just glad to see that the NBA had the balls to give him the punishment he deserved, and not just a slap on the wrist.

What has Dolan done besides just being really bad at running a team?

Make people like me who were once Knicks fans give up on basketball? I can't imagine I'm the only one. That leads to lost revenue.

This team will be forever garbage while he runs it. Phil Jackson can't save them. LeBron won't save them. Chris Paul won't save them. Any big free agent that Knicks fans have deluded themselves into thinking can save them, won't.

It's only a matter of time before Knicks fans finally see the light and just abandon the team. They will never be good in our lifetime while that clown owns them. Last year was obviously a fluke record wise. They lost a 90 year old Jason Kidd and went from 50+ wins to missing the playoffs in the Leastern conference.

I haven't kept up with this story but from what i understand this stems from a recording. Isn't that illegal or something im not sure im out of it. But looks like this guy is basically gonna get a payday to retire, 2 million in fines that he is just gonna get back when he sells the team. Also banned for life lol what 2 years he has left.

The NBA would have to approve the move. Why in the world would they allow that to happen with an up and coming LA franchise?

I said it's not impossible. People sound like I said bank on it, 2019 is set in stone. It was just an idea of... well if the new owners can provide their own venue in a basketball hungry place, it could happen, not saying it will happen. But could happen. Like I said, its not impossible.

So let m e get this straight how is forcing him to sell the team and get 1 billion for the team a punishment?

If he wanted $1 billion more than he wanted the team, he would have sold it years ago. He likes the power ownership brings more than the money (though he certainly doesn't hate the money).

It's funny how nobody is mentioning the $2.5 million fine. Small taters to sterling but it's more than most people make in a lifetime

Yeah, the NBA bylaws don't allow for a bigger fine than that - so $2.5 million dollars is the biggest slap on the wrist available.

I hope the sale of the team isn't a troll sale where it just gets sold to his wife or something, if it does happen anyway.

Good for him being banned but the guy is so wealthy and has so much power he probably will laugh and toss a few diamonds into whatever he's drinking tonight.

Well, yeah? I'm not sure what people expect a sports commissioner to do outside of completely ban the guy from the sport and strongly push for him to get rid of his interests in it.
