US PSN: Golden Week Sale Celebrates Japanese Games

I bought Armored Core: Verdict Day. I wanted ACV since the Japanese demo a long time ago, so I'm quite pumped to finally get to play (a version of) it.

It released as 39,99, no idea when the price dropped.

Checking Google, it seems to have very recently been $34.99, with no mentions of a price drop. I'll probably grab it once the store fully updates, in case it gets a PS+ discount.

The Atelier games are basically turn-based JRPGs combined with an alchemy simulator. The general setup is you have a few years to perform certain tasks--in Totori, you're trying to get your adventurer license and find out what happened to your mom, who was also an adventurer--and you do this by crafting items, taking quests and fighting monsters. The battle systems, while competent, are secondary in nature; the real star is the alchemy stuff, which involves gathering ingredients and combining them to create items for quests or to use in battle (which, if you're good at alchemy, eventually overpower the damage you can do with weapons by a lot).

The closest analogy I can think of is Recettear, minus the shop management aspects and plus the alchemy. Recettear is actually the reason I got into the Atelier games; the franchise was the only thing that seemed close to what Recettear had. But the production values are a lot higher and there's a lot more content--we're talking 30 hours for a first playthrough at least.

Ys is an action RPG, very fast-paced. They have a reputation for being balls hard--I died so many times to the first boss in Ys Seven (which you encounter half an hour into the game!) that I stopped playing the game for a while after I finally beat it because I was afraid of what would come next. Turns out it's not so bad, you just need to master the dodge/rolling moves and stuff like the flash guard to block damage and whatnot. Ys is a game I've always associated with mobility above all else--I was rolling and dodging all over the place, and it's a ton of fun. There's no overworld per se; rather, all the areas you go to are connected to one another, so it's like the game is nothing but overworld (but with level transitions).

I'm not sure what to compare it to, exactly, as most of the action RPGs I've played aren't this fast. Some people have compared the Ys series to Zelda games but personally I don't really see it, as they're not particularly heavy on puzzles and it's really about the fighting. Hopefully I gave you a decent idea of what to expect, though.
That was an awesome writeup, thank you very much.

Are the ZoE standalones going to update or do we have to buy the collection? No interest in ZoE1. Also, Chrono Cross doesn't seem to reflect my PS+ discount while MGS does.

Oh wow. Elevator Action Deluxe! is also on sale, which is something I've been personally waiting for as well. Really wished they made a bundle pack that included all the DLC though. A lot of stuff for me this week.

This might be a good a place as any but to anyone considering Burgertime, it's going to be delisted on the 30th. Here's my original post about it:

It looks like Burgertime World is being delisted. It's not under the discount section, so you need to type it in the search. If anyone is interested in picking it up before it goes away, it's currently priced at $4.99.

Chrono Cross was just updated with PS+ price

If you go on the SEN website and search for the full title and press enter (WITHOUT) selecting the game from the drop down menu, and click on the game, it is updated with the new PS+ price.

If you start typing "Chron..." and then select one of the games from the autocomplete dropdown menu, it won't have the PS+ discount.

Thank you for post! Don't want to read through 20 pages and this may have been asked but... is the MGS collection the one with Peace Walker HD?! If so $12!!!

So Persona 4 Arena Ultimate Edition is $22.49 when I was certain it was a regular $44.99 on PSN, not to mention the regular edition is more expensive at $29.99. So I'm not sure if this is being considered part of the Golden Week sale, or some funky strange price drop occurred recently that has the Ultimate Edition priced lower than the regular edition. Will this be a Persona franchise sale that's still having the prices updated? Or just a Persona 4 'franchise' sale?

Funny, it just updated for me and then when I refreshed, it went back to the $4.99 price.

Just picked up Danganronpa.

I got Persona 4 two months ago while it wasn't on sale but I have no regrets. Such an amazing game. Finished Persona 3 FES but I would've liked for Persona 3 Portable to be on sale. Hoping that it's because of the announcement on May 2nd.
I know it's 99% sure it's not related
