smash bros invitational is something out of one of my fanboy fantasies. this is a great idea. it gives much more to look forward to imo.

Culminates in a fight against Sakurai. Not in the game but in real-life. Sakurai ends up throwing a pipe through his opponent and saying, "LET OFF SOME STEAM, BENNET."

I think Nintendo should put those best buy demos on the eshop. After all, the whole world play smash not just the US.

Nintendo probably needs to score all the points with retailers they can. In addition to that letting an unfinished demo code run wild like that might be a bad idea in more way than one.

What's worse is that it's just the press and recording of applause lol

I mean who fucking cares about them hooting and hollering. Give me an epic trailer dammit

Fixed

But hey whatever gets people excited I guess! I prefer 1 hour of compact game announcement after game announcement with no filler. So the complete opposite than what Sony's conferences have been these past few years for example. They'll never trick me watching those snorefests again.

I didn´t review all the 11 pages this thread, so I don´t know if some one have point this out yet.

The main event seems to be the Smash Bros Invitational, and that seems as a good move, but It also mean that they don´t have any other bombs to deliver at E3. If they we´re to announce Zelda Wii U, they would do it at Kodak Theather, not in a Nintendo (Direct) Digital Event.

I was ready to buy a Wii U Next Week, now I think I´m better off waiting for E3 to see if Nintendo have something besides Smash Bros in the future.

Does "new games and announcements" count?

How about:

"Game fans, this is the one you’ve been waiting for. Tune in to the Nintendo Digital Event at 9 a.m. PT for a look at what’s in store for 2014 and beyond."

Notice how it is not even being called a Nintendo Direct. This is their own special E3 event, with new games and announcements.

I prefer Nintendo Directs to the live events. They are able to cram more info into less time and for me sitting at home, it's a higher quality presentation. But even if you prefer the old format, I don't see how it matters enough to be legitmately disappointed. You're getting the same info either way.

They said "new games and announcements" in that video so many times...

And yes, I do believe they would show off the new Zelda via a stream. That's basically how they've unveiled all their games for some time now.

People think a live press conference is more exciting than a live Smash Tournament for the new game with actual fans filling the Nokia theater rather than a bunch of journalists who might not even want to be there?

Fans >>>> non-enthusiastic press too busy liveblogging and being cynical

Live stream of game talk, footage, announcements >>>> comedians, concerts, and plants being paid to clap or awkward silence for announcements while the internet goes crazy.

The E3 people seem to be so fond of died back in 2008 when fans were no longer allowed to attend.

Nintendo should set up a live stream at Nintendo World Store.

This way people get the reactions they want.
And can still do their streaming show or whatever.

Obviously a press conference is way fun to watch but this doesn't seem that bad an idea. What I wanna know is is it gonna be better handled than last year. That stream last year was sort of a mess. Hope it goes way smoother this year.

I also remember the Giant Bomb guys saying the room they had it in was way over crowded and it just had Reggie shouting "play the game" for a while lol. Hope Nintendo can iron out the issues they had last year. And no shit trailers, the trailer for Super Mario 3D World made it look boring.

Rent out a theater and show the live stream on the big screen. Invite 100+ nintendo fans. Problem solved.

That's actually not a bad idea lol. Just live stream the stream at E3 with E3 attendees and then stream their viewing and reactions online so people who care about other people's reactions can orgasm over it. Everyone wins.

It will be better I'm sure. That's because Nintendo has truly been shown an improvement on their broadcasts lately, they have been going into a more "relax/chill/fun" approach while also mantaining the main focus of being informative with their announcements. That Smash Bros. Direct was a damn good example of that and that broadcast already is waaaay better than last years Nintendo Direct at E3 so we can expect lot's of goodness this time.

True. The Tomodachi one was hilarious, too.

Means absolutely nothing of course, but I thought I'd post it regardless. I'm pretty sure they're going to reveal their new handheld this year and E3 seems like a good venue to do so, but it'll probably be later.

Lawd no, i just bought my 3DS.

They should add canned laughter to all Nintendo Directs. Iwata: "Now I'd like to announce The Legend of Zelda for the Wii U" *laughter* "Why are you laughing for? *laughs intensify* *Miyamoto enters with Poltergust 5000 and vacuums shit behind Iwata while Reggie Fils-A-Mech explodes* *laugh track loses its shit*

That would be indeed a great solution. If they made it atmospheric, for example dark blue lighting with steam generators it would be even better than E3! Demos for our Wiiu to download even better. Theres still hope

Totally digging the retro Nintendo vibe from that image! Nintendo should play that nostalgia up more than they TRY to do currently.

And the point is they are doing very little to combat this perception with the public. These Directs are only good for current Wii U owners and Nintendo fans, does crap all to persuade average joe to know what a Wii U is, forget giving them confidence in even purchasing one.

"But they are on the floor" Good for them. They didnt have a confrence being passed around, live streamed and blogged by major sites though so who cares and why should the media frankly if Nintendo cant even be bothered to put on a show. The public perception is they werent there. People can yell at the clouds all they want but you are going to keep hearing it till Nintendo decides to take action.

This is a good point but Nintendo has repeatedly said they cannot fight the power battle, and this could easily relate to not just building consoles at a loss but also marketing and message. They are rather trying to be clever than throwing money at the problem.

It is a vicious cycle: The media hates on Nintendo when successful (Wii) and when failing (WiiU), so why would Nintendo want to go through them at all when they can't control the image. These are good experiments in trying to take out the "middle-man with an agenda (the gaming press)" - we'll see how it turns out.

Am I the only one who felt giddy and thrilled at Nintendo's announcement?

EVERYTHING NINTENDO has a damper put on it. No matter what. Unbelievable.

I'm practically shitting myself with excitement. This could be a messy six weeks.

I didn't expect it but was wondering when they'd comment on their E3 plans.

My hype level is an 8/10 but then again, people have said they have no games to show so I will temper it.

Hmmm.. that doesn't appear to be on the site anymore neither is the "wii at e3" reference.
