Rumor: A Halo game releasing in October 2014?

Why hasn't Ntkrnl posted since the days of his initial leak? At this point, I've said it before, this is probably the worst kept secret for 343/MS. I'm almost certain it will be Halo 2 Anniversary, some Halo 5 beta etc. I'd be shocked if it's something different.

Halo is still MS biggest/strongest IP. They would have already a huge campaign rolling for a new major entry, even six month away. It's like already said many times probably H2A.

Even H2A w/multiplayer wouldn't make me want to go out and buy a Xbox one even though Halo is my favorite franchise.

I leaning towards a placeholder.

Hated H2's campaign in a lot of respects, but overall it is still a very good game. I hope they add 3D again, it was a very interesting POV of the first anniversary game

Halo 2 Anniversary - single player (w/added content) and multiplayer plus Halo 3/4 campaign ports (which ntkrnl said too in a war collection?) and id be very happy.

Plus halo 5 beta.

It just says Halo Xbox One and not Halo 5 =/

Most likely Halo 2: A.

I really doubt they will call the new Halo, Halo 5. I think they are done numbering franchises, Sony's doing the same thing, God of War, Killzone, Infamous etc all dropped the numbering.

Edit: that doesn't mean I think Halo "5" will come out this year, I think it would be way too soon, not nearly enough hype time. I think this date is a placeholder, and nothing more. Could be for H2 anniversary not sure, but it's definitely not a solid date.

Nah.

We have yet to see a single pieces off realtime footage or screens.

Halo 2A hopefully.

343i needs to take their time on Halo 5.

Halo 4 was the start of the new trilogy, so I think they'll keep their numbering up. God of War: Ascension wasn't numbered because it's a prequel, same with Gears of War. Killzone and inFamous I can't explain.

But still, if they said "This is a new trilogy" and then didn't call it Halo 4, I'd be more inclined to believe it. But if they stop numbering it now it's just weird

I really don't see what's wrong with that, if it gets a total make over in the graphics and gameplay department that it feels like a brand new game. New online modes, features, and such. It would be a game all its own.

I'm hoping for Activision to start doing something similar with COD4 and Modern Warfare 2.

Considering they didn't even bother using a new engine for the first Halo Anniversary and just slapped on new assets on the old one (which made the framerate really crappy in a lot of areas) I doubt they would bother to change the gameplay in this one. One can at least hope for a new engine, but if they change the gameplay Halo 5 would seem unnecessary unless they have something really drastic in mind for that one which they would not implement in H2A.

Well, much to my great disappointment, Halo 4-6 is no longer the Reclaimer Trilogy.

They have announced Halo is now a "Saga" with no beginning middle or end. So given that Announcment, dropping the numbering seems appropriate. Though I hate the idea.

I'm okay with 5 trilogies as long as they are self contained. No make the story one long run on sentence that only comes to a rushed conclusion once the money dries up.

I just think the numbering will be gone in general. It makes a series less approachable. If the xbox one is your first console or even just your first MS console, people might be intimidated by a game with a 5 next to the title not having played the first 4(at least) games. Even the new Uncharted is rumored to be dropping the 4 from the title and I wouldn't be shocked to see if Gears of War did the same. Can't say anything for sure, but to me that seems to be the direction games are going.

Wouldn't it be cool if "Halo for Xbox One" referred to a next gen re release of the Covenant trilogy, like Konami did with the Metal Gear Solid collection? That would be pure bomba having anniversary editions of 1,2 and 3 released as one title. I would gladly fork over 60 euro for that. Of course they probably wouldn't call it anniversary editions.

It would have to have Reach and ODST as well or it would be a waste.

I'd be content enough with the 'mainline' games. But a comprehensive remastering of all prior Halo games in one collection for the Xbone would be epic. It'd probably hand the US back to MS.

while i understand the draw of halo, old games are not going to win back anything for anyone.

What makes you think it's a basic port and not some complete remake on Halo's 4 engine?

Here's to hoping it isn't a remake on the Halo 4 engine.

Halo Anniversary was the most correctly done remake I've ever seen, and I'd like for it to be like that. I want the original game engine running with all its flaws and glitches in place so the game runs just like I'd expect.

If they want to use Halo 4's graphic engine, however, in the same manner that H1A did (both engines in memory at once, information passed back and forth) that would be fine by me. Halo 4 was actually a pretty good looking game, though H1A may have been better looking.

I imagine they'll do the same thing they did with H1A with the dual engine approach. They did it with 512MBs of RAM on the Xbox 360, so I'm sure they can do some cool stuff with sixteen times that on Xbox One. Instantaneous switching between graphics engines without the one second fade that H1A had would be nice.

Theres no way it wouldn't be that much.

Halo 2 Single player+Multiplayer and Halo 3/4 campaigns if rumors are to be believed, seems reasonable to me. But If they also threw on ODST....

Still, double scarab battle with new shiny graphics would be worth it alone.

A Halo 2A does not excite me at all. I know alot of people have great memories of the game but eh. Moving on, people.
It was a pretty good game. The online community became corrosive pretty quickly, I guess people are looking forward to playing with ranking systems that aren't terrible and marred with exploits though.

Counterfactual: What impact would it have if this was Halo 5?
Well, it would cause mass worry that they have accelerated the development cycle to 2 years.

I'll bet they've called it 'Halo on Xbox One' because that rumour ntkrnl posted about them porting all the existing games over is true. Literally, the entire Halo series. On Xbox One.

edit: It would be even cooler if they tied all the campaigns together so you can just sit down and play through the whole thing in one go.

Well they had a bit of trouble with Halo 4 and it's development, would be a bit worrying that they'd have a supposed next gen successor within two years of Halo 4 launch. Not to say it isn't doable, but they're not a massive studio, and they did outsource maps and other multiplayer features to companies like Certain Affinity.

Another problem would be, they would probably have been deep in development before they could see just how much of the fanbase didn't like many of the changes in Halo 4. Maybe they wouldn't have time to change things.

Halo 5 multiplayer is only going to be successful if it plays like Halo 2/3 multiplayer, bc if H2A with multiplayer is true, nobody is going to leave it for the crap that is the same as 4 and Reach

They are pretty massive. I think nearly 400 people? Also, they laid a lot of the technological and artistry groundwork for the next game with Halo 4, so theoretically it shouldn't take as long.

In your opinion! I respectfully disagree and counter that by saying IMO it has the best SP campaign.

Ehh, that campaign was sort of a disaster. My friends and I must have played through the CE campaign 30 times together, and I couldn't get any of them to play through Halo 2's campaign even once.

I seem to remember Phil Spencer tweeting about this. IIRC, he said that a theoretical H2A release would only make sense if they came correct with the multiplayer this time.

I just hope its not Halo 5. After Halo 4, 343i needs to take their time.. 2 year cycle is not enough.

It's on the 1st (which is a Weds), so I'm guessing this is just a placeholder date.

I do think we'll get something Halo this Fall though. Be it H2A, 5, or both - Microsoft needs dat Master Chief coin.
