Will Sony focus on AAA at E3 after their Indie announcements yesterday?

Here's hoping their E3 isn't the "Lets talk about indies for 75% of the show and then ride the coattails of MS's misfortune lol"

I expect to hear about the AAA games, not things like "more resogun".

They talked about indies for 75% of their E3 last year?

More like they gave indies their own spotlight for 15 minutes and you got salty about it, amirite?

I think we are going to see a LOT of third party AAA and about 4-5 Sony Exclusives (not including the ones we know about though those will get screentime)

Should see plenty of Indies too.

They'll probably give some of the more prominent indies some stage time but I think we'll see a lot of AAA as well. I hope some of the new IPs they have in development (outside of Driveclub and The Order) show as well.

One would think so, otherwise it makes little sense to release information about all those indie games at the same time.

I think they will show a highlight reel of all the indie games coming up and maybe have some of the devs on stage like last year. I think they know that some indie titles would be buried by all the AAA megaton news at E3, so it makes sense to give them the spotlight as the E3 hype intensifies.

I still think that some high profile indie games will be given some stage time.

Showing all those 11 indie titles now means that they are really confident in what they have to reveal for E3.

uncharted 4 gameplay

order 1886 gameplay

sony bends new game

demon souls 2 gameplay

last guardian gameplay.

This is the minimum I expect from the exclusive front.

I'm sure they will spend some amount of time on indies but I do hope they have a big focus on AAA. So far I am really not convinced their first partys are going to be as strong as last gen which is not something I thought I'd be saying a year ago so I hope they come out and show me what's what.

Also, if cod is at either conference (it wasn't last year right?) it will be Microsoft's. Don't they still have an exclusive dlc arrangement until 2015?

Damnit I hope you are right lol

Mostly cuz Demons Souls 2 would blow my damn mind

Trolololol. He's kidding most likely.
I think this year MS will have a great showing for indies, after the positive feedback Sony got last year
I doubt it. They have to fit all of their stuff in 90 minutes for TV. It's why they're always rushing. Then again, stuff like Below got a trailer so it's not out of the questions.
Excellent contribution to stealth trollers everywhere. I thought thuway was kidding but I guess he was right. Every. Thread.
I wish people would stop quoting him. It shows up on my screen when that happens.
Probably nothing.
Gravity Rush 2, Freedom Wars, etc. But that's TGS stuff. They'll have something.

Will Sony have an indie segment during their E3 presser? I hope so. The Indie Eight thing was just amazing and E3 time for any indie is a dream come true. Boyes said at one point they still have to surprise people so doing the exact same thing again just won't fly. But I think it was very efficient. They probably won't take up more than 15 minutes. And they'll probably announce next year's line-up up to winter hopefully.

They'll still be showing "bigger" indie games like The Witness and Rime in terms of indies while the bigger focus with be AAA games.
This. I expect Sony's big AAA games will be Uncharted 4, The Order, new Guerrilla Games and maybe Media Molecule new IPs, and The Last Guardian.

My guesses:

- A little chest puffery (not horrible levels) : Sales, Apps, Project Morpheus, PS3 & Vita support, some future firmware teases
- PS+ surprises for PS4 (unannounced games, or ones we thought we would be paying for)
- Uncharted 4 teaser trailer (2015)
- The Last of Us Remastered mention
- The Order 1886 on stage demo
- Sony Bend Game revealed
- Media Molecule Game revealed
- Deep Down update + H1Z1 info
- Just Cause 3 teaser trailer & partnership announced (one can dream)
- Rime &/OR The Witness gameplay trailer(s)
- Indie games logo/titles screenshot
- Destiny trailer with Beta date announcement
- COD & Battlefield given "of course coming to PS4" vs stage presence
- Arkham Knight gameplay video
- Assassin Creed Unity stage demo (Exclusive DLC)
- Rockstar Games Agent or Next Red Dead announcement (GTA V for next-gen in 2014 handled as a press release prior to E3)

I have a feeling many people will be disappointed.

they need to show some high budget titles. alot of these indies are terrible and i'd rather just play SNES games than most of them. Show us the blockbusters Sony :)

Dayum this seems really on point with what we are most likely to see

Lets just hope they have some surprises to fill in the gaps

I couldn't help but wonder the same thing myself, but I really hope yesterday's event wasn't done to get the indies out of the way, so to speak. Personally, I thought that showing the indies some love by bringing them on stage last year was one of the coolest parts of last year's E3.

For me a big Sony E3 would consist of:-
-Gameplay demos for Unch4rted,GG's new IP,and Bend's new IP
-Demon's Souls 2,TLG,GT7:P,Gravity Rush 2 and Beyond announced for PS4
-Gameplay demos of Batman,Destiny,Resident Evil 7 and AC:Unity

I desperately want Demons Souls 2 to be real and release this year lol

I hope they don't show any AAA games so people will be forced to actually look at the games rather than the label or get the fuck out.

But yeah, we will see bigger games this year. Here's some of the things we should expect to see.

1. They trademarked 3 new IPs in the last 3 weeks. Any of them can be from MM, Sony Bend, or another studio.
2. Lily Bergamo (character action game) is coming out this year so we should see gameplay footage soon.
3. Deep Down
4. Uncharted
5. The Order
6. Guilty Gear Xrd- the developers will be at E3 this year so we'll get a US release date.
7. Rime
8. Gravity Rush 2

Seems like a given

At least a trailer. Wasnt there another Fallout game in development as well?

I hope. Fallout 4 is my most wished for title. And with all of the "Mingleplayer" stuff we are seeing in AAA - I would froth at the mouth for a co-op Fallout.

EDIT: also - there are time limits. I think Sony's presser is like 90 minutes? So even what I listed is pretty tight IMO

They just got the once they could not put on stage out of way. There still will be Adam Boyes indie segment.

Sony's E3 conferences tend to be a couple of hours. MS is generally 90 min.

Why does anyone actually think demons souls 2 even exists. I would love to eat crow on that but i dont see it happening

It's been speculated and hinted at for ages. Where there's smoke there's fire.

It is a successful game, Sony own the IP, the director of the first game has to be working on something, rumor mill supports the idea, there is enough reasons to suspect it exists in some form.

Personally, I hope they're going to try to bridge the gap between indie and AAA with a few more modest projects of their own. They have plenty of IP they could readily revisit as modest, mid-tier projects that won't break the bank and can help lay the groundwork for teams to go on to more ambitious projects. Being focused primarily on AAA projects is just going to generate an increasingly frustrating atmosphere waiting on heavily hyped games that take longer and longer to develop. They need to have a middle ground.

I would love to see RIME, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, The Witness and throw in some No Man's Sky. Those 4 would be killer.

I definitely feel like they are getting a lot of stuff out if the way to make room for other things, but there's no telling at this point.

I think Sony has retreaded over already announced stuff at E3 before so I'm not going to get my hopes too high up there without an insider hinting.

Are those really indie games??

I don't know, but seems like the "indie game" is a little diffused. For me, at least, indie game is the one that: 1) is made for few people, 2) is made with a little budget and 3) take some risk with an innovative concept.

Witness and Rime looks more like small games, not indie games...

If your reasoning holds up OP I am hoping the VITA gets some major first party software announcements and perhaps another 2000 model SKU (I really want a white Vita slim but do not want to import one.) If Sony does focus on AAA it would make the "indies don't do it for me" crowd to calm down.

Let's pretend the studio hasn't just seen some major talent exiting!

Let's pretend this is something new that has never happened in the past (particularly on the jump from PS2 to PS3).

Edit: I'll just leave this quote here:

As development for PlayStation 4 gears up, Naughty Dog has expressed its concerns about the transition to Sony's next system. In a new interview, studio co-president Evan Wells explains that moving to new hardware is a "double-edged sword."

"The geek inside you is always excited about a shiny new toy, but then the practicality of it starts to set in: this is going to be a lot of hard work," Wells told Eurogamer. "When you're going to new technology, every day is a slog, progress is slow and it really takes a different kind of attitude and mentality to get through that kind of push and it's not right for everybody."

Wells described the transition period between PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 as "the period that Naughty Dog had its darkest days and we lost people on a weekly basis. People just couldn't get through it."

What is happening now with Naughty Dog is nothing new, it has happened before and NG came out better than they were before. Until they release a new game we have no reason to believe all this doom and gloom about NG. It's getting old fast.

I doubt Uncharted 4 is going to suck just because some high profile people left. You don't make a game of that size with just 15 guys.

You are jumping to conclusions. Sony got great feedback from the press and the audience by giving indies a place in the conference, so they probably will do something similar this year.

This! I would do the same thing they did last year: revealing 8 or more new indie games (some important ones between them) with their developers on stage.

For me, was a great segment last year... if they have Phil Fish playing FEZ 2 on stage, THAT would be huge for me...

Hope they got a new cameraman and/or director for the livestream!!!

If 2012 was 'everything was Uncharted', and 2013 was 'everyone is making stuff so we've got nothing to show', then it'd be a real shame if everything was Uncharted again.

I'm hoping for a good, new, Japanese exclusive or two, but I'm not confident. I expect Sony to continue to indulge their romance with stunningly pretty, expensive, technically impressive Western mediocrity. And Indies.

I love the concern trolling from people that don't even like ND. And there will be a indie showncase on stage same as last year.

That meme was about how so many games did the playable cinematic third person action sequence in their games, not because Sony was showing Uncharted.

Sony can't do anything about other publisher developers aping Uncharted. They can only be crucified for the stuff they actually did. :-P

More like they gave indies their own spotlight for 15 minutes and you got salty about it, amirite?

Wasn't salty about it since i bought a PS4 day one. And lets be frank ignoring Resogun and other indies, the PS4 launced with 2 exclusive titles. Knack and Killzone. Nothing wrong with it, just felt they spent more hype saying "$399" and "NO DRM!" than actually showing me more of what i wanted or could play. Good to mention that one of the games they did promise ie. Drive Club didn't even come out (and thats fine also. Im not a dev, i dont get to say shit about that). And I believe they talked about the PS4 exclusive games for like 20-25 mins. So yeah, that's a lot more that i cared to listen about indies. I get that its launch games and yaddiyadda; But as much as i love my indie games i didnt buy a PS4 for those. But hey, thats just my opinion.

Funny how that game is rated higher than most "AAA games" that were released at launch on both platforms

Never said it was a bad game. I just think when people think next gen or should think about next gen it should be games like Infamous. The only new thing resogun brings into the twin stick shooter was the cylindrical battlefield. Again, not saying its bad, but this is a game that could have been put onto the PS3. Maybe not so much with the HD, but hey that's just my opinion.

I reckon so. My sauces telling me that Ueda gonna come up on stage and play The first 45 minutes of The Last guardian. He then picks up the microphone and utters "Canceled", drops the mic and walks away.

god i hate this AAA term. A game is a game, period.

Agreed.

That and "indie". I hate using it but since even the publishers refer to those games as indies. Half of the games that are called "indies" are often made by studios with the same size as a "full studio".

That being said. I like how MS classifies the old arcade games as games.

I think so. After the Driveclub re-reveal and the slew of indies announced yesterday, it makes sense. Especially if the insiders are to be believed about Sony having to cut content because they have too much for so little time.

I would take these off-board (and even the on-board) insiders with such a huge grain of salt.

Who is currently active that knows about Sony stuff and has delivered in the past?
