Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

I can't wait to see the alt colors in Smash 4. It just looks so wrong to be that gritty and realistic.

A question for you guys. What alt colors would you like to see for Mario? Doesn't have to be limited for Mario, but I'm gonna talk about Mario since it would be simple.

Cloud Mario would be cool, but it looks really similar to Fire Mario:

Personally, I would love a Proto Man alt costume for Mega Man. I'd prefer him as his own character of course, but I don't think it disrespects the character. As a fan, it gives me a way to play a character I know won't be playable.

The Dark Link pallet from Brawl was pretty much taken straight from a Twilight Princess cutscene, where that "Dark Link" design was used to represent Midna's ancestors. It's also straight up called "Dark Link" in the official site for Brawl.

Why wouldn't you go to those "lengths" for a palette swap that has Daisy colors? Changing the colors hardly requires the effort it would take to make a legitimate alt.

Peach's Daisy color in Melee also changed her dress model, although it kept the same model for her hair.

Red Star Mario

Ice Mario
I think you nailed it with those two. Those, the default, fire, the green one, and Doctor Mario. I think that's sufficient.

What kind of post is this?

I may be disappointed/sad/angry that Dillon isn't playable but that doesn't make me lash it out on characters that do make in. WFT is a fine character and the "different skin" makes sense.

LOL

No one bashed WFT. The character is perfectly fine, but it's still crazy to think such a random character virtually completely nonexistent in fans minds is playable while another character (playable in their games) that a lot of people wanted to be playable became an assist trophy. And going by the wireframe Little Mac retexture and that WFT is the only completely different "costume," alt-costumes may mostly be texture swaps rather than separate models. While it was weird that Wario was the only one in Brawl to have an alt-costume, it at least made sense since he's had two different costumes in two distinct series.

Here's Dark Link in 3 different game in order of appearance.

Brawl's was based off of the TP design which was based off of the OT design.

sakurai said basically "No-one asked me for this ever but I thought it'd be funny" when he introduced WFT. So... I dunno.. it's kinda crazy? I guess? But also Sakurai is crazy so in a way it is entirely expected.

Yes, I think that logic checks out.

Dammit. Now I don't mind to see Red and Black and Ice Blue and Red alt colors; but I truly expect almost all of alt colors are coming back for Smash 4.

Did anyone lose the alt colors between Melee and Brawl; I'm afraid that I don't remember every alt colors tho.

WFT wasn't a random choice, she was an unexpected choice. Adding WFT to represent the Wii Fit series is brilliant and deserved given the success and popularity of Wii Fit. Fans may not care about Wii Fit, but it certainly deserves representation far more than a lot of the nostalgia driven character requests we see all the time.

Luigi can have the stuff I posted for Mario as well as some stuff from Luigi's Mansion:

Peach and Rosalina have this:

I don't expect them to have a ponytail though.

Yoshi can have this:

An orange colored Yoshi. All of the other SMG2 power-ups have their palette swaps in already.

While not a palette swap, it would be cool to see Dry Bowser since it has appeared in mainline games (NSMB, 3D Land, and NSMB2) and has been featured more prominently in spin-offs. I don't expect it though since it isn't important like Wario's or WFT's.

I don't think so.

It already is Luigified, I posted a pic earlier of it's inspiration. It's the same source as Mario's blue outfit.
Cool, I didn't realize. The comment at the end of the last page just made me think about. Is it from the (not super) Mario Bros.?

Were Dillon requests about nostalgia though? Is the decision making process for which character's are playable not difficult to parse here?

This isn't me saying that it's a wrong choice, but this is strange considering that it would make sense for more popular characters to be playable in this type of game. You have two relatively new characters with WFT and Dillon. While it's unknown whether there was ever a moment where they were both directly at odds with one another's inclusion, in the end, WFT still was playable over Dillon. It's just a bit crazy.

What about the Hero's Shade? He'd need to have his size reduced, but it'd be a much more interesting alt for Link than just some other tunic.
And it's also still Link for people who complain about costumes being different characters.

Some colors disappeared, but they were just generic ones.

Donkey Kong lost a black fur + blue tie skin.

Ganondorf lost his purple colors.

Link lost his black tunic alternate color, although it's basically replaced by the much more unique Dark Link design.

Orange (Nana, main) + White (Popo) color was removed.

Jigglypuff's blue bow was replaced by the straw hat.

Pikachu's party hat was dropped.

Zelda lost a white/light purple color.

Yeah, from the arcade flyer.

WiiFit trainer can also sport orange and apparently even a different hair do.

By the way, can we take a sec to appreciate how great Lucas' alt colors are. We got:

Lucas
Claus - Lucas
Calvin - Lucas
Sailor - Lucas
Freddy Krueger - Lucas
Schroeder - Lucas

They're all great

Left to right: Metal Blade, Leaf Shield, Air shooter, Crash bomber, Hard knuckle, Top Spin, Super Arm, spark shock, flame blast, slash claw, flame sword

Couldn't find a red sprite for when he uses rush coil, but that, too.

Red & Black Mario
Also Green Green Luigi from Luigi's Mansion 2

There are a lot of colors they can choose, I hope we get more than 6 this time (they were 6 in Brawl right?)

Also did they showed up the characters differents colors back in the DOJO! ?

I wonder. I found it weird that quality of Dillion being better than any new assist trophies so far. I can't help but wondering if they had a original plan that Dillion were meant to be playable character but got nixed and becomes assist trophies instead.

I'm pretty sure that it's really wild hyperbole if any of you take me serious. Haha. I'm astonished by Dillion's quality.

Not the first time Sakurai would do this. ;__;

Anyway, do you guys think Meta knight might be unlockable this time around?

Gives the kirby franchise an unlockable. One of the few multi-rep only franchise that hasn't had an unlockable, right?

Star fox (3 reps) - Falco/Wolf unlockable
Zelda (4 reps) - Ganondorf unlockable
Mario(4+ reps) - Luigi unlockable
Mother(2 reps) - ness unlockable in 64/brawl
Fire emblem (2 reps per game) - Roy and then Marth in brawl
Pokemon (multiple reps!) - jiggly, mewtwo, lucario

Kirby (3 reps) - no unlockables
DK (2 reps) - no unlockables
Metroid (2 reps) - no unlockables, but understandable because of ZSS mechanic

I hope MK is unlockable this time.

Actually I hope a couple different characters are locked just for it to be a bit different. It'd be a nice surprise for characters like MK, Ike, and Lucas to not be available from the get go.

Yeah, I think all multi-rep franchises deserve an unlockable. Akin to 'Like these guys from your favorite franchise? Do this to get more!"

But WiiFit was successful, so it kinda makes sense when you think about it. Also, WiiFit is a Wii game, which is older than Dillon which is a 3DS game. If you're comparing by relative creation date, you should be saying "Greninja got in over Dillon".

I also have no idea where you got the idea that Dillon was more popular than a character from WiiFit. Even Andre completely forgot Dillon existed.

I think if you did a worldwide census, more people would be familiar with wii fit, and possibly the trainer, than dillon's rolling western. Especially based on sales numbers.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure more people would be familiar with every single character on the roster (including rumored characters like Shulk and Chorus men) than Dillon too.

That would explain why the model was so well-detailed. Then again, Sega & Nintendo are like best friends now, so them approving Sonic's return wasn't surprising.
The model isn't all that well detailed though, or not any more than any other AT. He's a pretty simple character to render.
