For myself : I hope it's not like the previous games and that this title has decent animations, non clunky gameplay, decent value productions and then I'll consider picking this up for a third try lol.
Oh and people shitting on PC gamers, not all of us are exclusive to the platform, just saying :)

With regards to my PC comment, I meant no offence to good amicable PC gamers who don't feel the need to come to forums and spew a load of master race nonsense, that comment was not aimed at them and thus not at you.

You should not feel offended :)

on topic, I am still stuck in Demons Souls, I bought the game in 2010

Isn't this a bit soon?

I haven't even played Dark Souls one or two yet because every time I nearly consider it, the next one is already announced and it seems like a waste of money at that point.

I wish more companies would take their time with sequels. At least give people time to digest before throwing more cake down their throats.

What does that mean? Why would you be considering playing the first only to stop when you heard the sequel was coming out, surely it would make you more likely to play it?

Or is your issue that the games don't follow on so presumably any sequel will be more refined and so better than the game before it? Still seems like a strange opinion.

How is it hard to grasp? Two and a half years between each release. Yes Dark Souls 2 came out last month, but guess when Dark Souls 1 came out?
Dark Souls' last iteration came out at the end of 2012. Only a few months after that version, a new game in the series was announced.

A year and a half later (honestly, people need to look at months), dark souls 2 was released. One month after that, a game was "leaked" and will likely be announced at e3.

Very few games allow for the amount of freedom these games do. You can beat them with any weapon, any build and with almost any crazy self imposed rule you can think of. Sounds sort of like the opposite of what you are suggesting. You can beat the tower knight as your second boss or tenth, it's all good.

Perhaps you are right, there were points when I felt I had gotten into the stride of things only to be stomped into the ground by some shambling grotesquery that comes out of left field.

Will try again soon, I just got a PS4 though so it might be difficult to go back

in essence its a game you play with a walkthrough opened in another tab.

Guess I'm some kind of crazy elite for being able to beat these games in basically under a week with zero guide? Played the hell out of Dark Souls 2, beat it in like 45 hours.

These things keep being said but you fail to quantify them. Everyone who finishes them often says they didn't need a guide, so either you're wrong or there's a lot of fuckin liars on the other team!

I'm not even sure what you're implying the wiki is needed for. Knowing where the absolute best gear is? My favorite gear is largely not even close to "top tier", hell I don't even know how to get/make a lot of the top gear in Demon's Souls and it never really mattered to me honestly.

I really hope this rumor turns out true.

I don't think you need to hope.

We heard over a year ago from reputable folks in the industry that Miyazaki was working on a PS4 game. Since he wasn't working on Dark Souls 2, this "rumour" made sense and when you take into account everything Shuhei Yoshida has said about Demon's Souls since he realised it was a mistake to let go, connecting the dots would lead you to here.

I do wonder if people don't FREQUENTLY consult guides, but get stuck on a boss and go "come on I need to find a good strategy" or whatever. I think guides are more useful for higher level play really, less "how do I get through dungeon?" and more "where do I find really useful item or reinforcement materials?" It admittedly does help there's messages all over the place though.
MS unique Japanese developer exclusive? That might the the worst out come.
It's the worst SURPRISE, as in you got really hyped up to get a game on one console only for it to wind up on the opposite one, but the worst OUTCOME is that it's a shit game. Or doesn't ever come out, kind of the difference between which you prefer: to be forgotten when you die, or to be hated.

basically this

thirst is real for 'Demon Souls 2'

Thanks for your input, though the condescending tone was not necessary,

some games don't click for some people, crazy theory I know but its true and I am not alone in frustration with the game.

I have admitted time and time again in the past 3 pages that DS is a good game, great even. It doesn't mean I cant criticize it.

Will buy a PS4 if there is no pc release.
edit: I hope this doesn't qualify as port begging.

I'm in the same spot. For 99.99999999999% you & me will be buying the PS4 hardware for this game, though. No biggie as I said earlier - the money waits in the bank.

Also:

- don't care if it is 30 fps
- don't care if it is 720p

The game could be 640x480, black & white for all I care.

Wonder if this game will use some of the PlayStation Now stuff. PlayStation Now will have launched and matured a bit by the time this releases.

So the spectate, interact stuff maybe could add another element to the interesting online functionality that Demon's/Dark Souls had. I mean it would have to be integrated directly into the same and not in a separate app, but it could be interesting.

Film Noir dark souls?

I think if you're seeing the good in it, as in you can enjoy it at times and it's not just the objective "well I can tell this is well made I just don't like it" view then you may want to give at least Dark Souls a try. Some people that were kind of put off by Demon's Souls would end up loving Dark Souls, and it can even make it easier to go back to Demon's Souls as you'll get the game's logic better.

I really hope Sony do a console bundle, normal-collectors-epic edition releases, huge marketing etc.

It's not a game that will likely sell over five million largely due to it's nature (though who knows, suddenly there are break out mega successes in a series) but this will be pure, pure quality. It speaks directly to the hardcore gamer in the best possible way.

I think you will see Sony pushing this a lot. They must redeem themselves after the way they handled Demon's Souls.

If this is true, Sony have a huge game. To a lot of hardcore gamers the Soul's series is their favorite games of last gen, it's crazy how MS let that slip from them. This game has the potential to get people to choose a PS4 over a Xbox One, hell I think it's more important than TitanFall ever was. A confirmation of this game at E3, a long with Ther Order and Uncharted 4 is enough for Sony to win this years E3.

I love Eurogamers review conclusion for Demon's Souls (early 2009):

Demon's Souls is absolutely compelling; dark, detailed, unforgiving, creatively cruel. It gets under your skin and becomes a personal obsession, daring you to probe further into its worlds, fall for more of its traps and overcome more of its impossible challenges; it slaps you in the face with your own incompetence and dares you to overcome it.

It's stoic, uncompromising, difficult to get to know, but also deep, intriguingly disturbed and perversely rewarding. You can learn to love Demon's Souls like few other games in the world. But only if you're prepared to give yourself over to it.

This thread reminds me of when Watch Dogs first showed at E3, everyone was buzzed and happy and full of excitement in anticipation of the games release. Love it.

Can't wait for more details.

reading through the thread...not sure i understand the sentiments of this being a bad reveal/leak, that it takes away from their E3. I mean, I understand not knowing anything about this until E3 would have made the official reveal that much sweeter.

But once we see actual footage, with a clear look at the game at Sony's E3, I'm sure we'll crash GAF :)

*goes back to reading through whole thread*

This and livestream interactive integration will be super interesting.

"Consoles have no games"
"Dammit this game needs to come out on PC"

lol. Elitism of any kind is annoying. Though, in the case of many posts, it was simply a lack of information as people did not realise it was SCEJ.

I actually think console exclusives from third parties may be on the rise, most notably in Japan. With next gen costs rising many games that aren't big franchises already, I can see getting funded by Sony, MS and Nintendo.

For instance: Bayonetta 2, W101, Dead Rising 3, Deep Down, Beast Souls etc

I think its a good thing as these pubs possibly might not have made these games or taken the risk without funding.

I wouldn't really characterise this as a slip up, I mean this didn't go to Sony through any fault of MS. Just like Demon's Souls, this looks like a collaboration from the get go rather than From shopping for publishers.

And this thread has been absolutely worth watching PC gamers salivating...sorry I can't help but take pleasure in that...

My man.....

30fps will be absolutely fine for this game, it'll be an improvement from all the other Souls' games (on console) if it sticks to it.

Nope. Dark Souls came out at the end of 2011. Just because it took a petition and a year of development time for it to be released on PC at the end of 2012 doesn't mean the game was released in 2012.

Or are you trying to claim a GOTY style edition as "the last iteration" because that's stupid as hell. "Oblivion GOTY Edition came out last year, why are they already announcing Skyrim?" Are you serious?

GAF when Beast Souls turns out to be 30 fps

Lol you think a console Souls game is going to reach 30FPS.

Not sure I'd go that far, but this is a huge get for Sony. Even if it's not a direct sequel to Demon's Souls or even has Souls in the name and features guns, if it's anywhere near as brutal as Demon's or Dark, Sony will have a hit on their hands.

I love Eurogamers review conclusion for Demon's Souls (early 2009):

That Eurogamer review is what made me import Demons Souls. I'd heard it being mentioned before, and then heard it being mentioned with incredible praise from certain places. Assumes that it would be a niche game, not to my tastes. The Eurogamer review sold it to me, and DeS became the single most affecting games I've ever played. Hands down the game of last generation.

Importing was the only option to get Demon's in the UK for over a year. Still bitter over how Sony/From handled the game...

So the informant was real.

I've always played Demons' Souls as if it were a horror game. Moving slowly with a shield up because I know some horrible thing is going to try to kill me. Something about that mindset made me enjoy it more when I treated it more like a horror game than action game. But that's just me.

That frame of mind came in handy in 3-1...

I think that's how it should be played.

Come on dude

A few months? Dark Souls shipped October 2011, Dark Souls 2 wasn't announced till December the year after.

I'll just chalk it down as unpopular opinion. If people are ready then so be it.

This isn't about MS screwing up. This is about Sony righting a wrong. And with Miyazaki/ FS back on board I think Sony made them an offer they couldn't refuse. Dunno, but people are gonna be surprised how big the scope of this game really is. We will find out at E3!

If this story turns out to be a dud...

Come on man the signs that this is a true Souls game by From Soft/Sony are all over the place...

1)We have been hearing rumours about Sony's and From Software's collaboration for a long while now

2)We knew that Miyazaki was working on something for quite some time along with his team that worked on Demon's and the original Dark.

3)These screens "scream" Souls Game all over them.I mean they even included a screenshot with a fog gate.

4)Demonite (a Sony employee here on GAF) has been hinting about this for a long time often using the word "beast" in his posts. And now this is leaked and guess what it's code named "Project Beast".
