Sony's E3 2014 - What are we all expecting?

Is this just a guess or have their been rumours about this? I'd like to see something else from Guerilla that isn't Killzone.

They've had a new IP in development for over 2 and a half years. It's something that they've confirmed on several occasions. There's been a lot of speculation about what it is and most of that centers around some sort of RPG. They hired an Obsidian writer who points this out in his Linkedin

My focus is storytelling for open-world role-playing games. Because they are awesome.

His previous two games were Fallout: New Vegas and Shadow of Mordor.

It will be so funny if Sony start the show with Shu on screen, Playroom style!

I want Media Molecule guy do the stage presentation art direction like they did for Kaz CES talk this year.

My only hope is that we'll get a decent focus on VR, and in particular some AAA content being developed for it (hopefully Media Molecule).

VR really needs its "Mario 64" moment, and I think Sony has a shot at bringing it.

- Beast Souls, unless they're saving that for TGS
- The Last Guardian re-reveal for PS4 only
- Uncharted 4 gameplay demonstration
- The Order: 1886, proper gameplay demonstration
- At least one of the recently trademarked IPs (Entwined, Bloodborne, Kill Strain)
- Guerrilla's new IP, which could be one of those
- Sony Bend's game, which could be one of those
- Santa Monica's game, which could be one of those

Quantic Dream and Media Molecule's stuff will probably be left for Gamescom, unless Sony's planning to make this the greatest E3 of all time. But I doubt they have the time.

I'm expecting:

Indie reel
Very little time spent on Morpheus, if any
Uncharted 4 story trailer, no gameplay.
Project Beast reveal, including gameplay, no demo
Last Gaurdian re-reveal
Driveclub new trailer
The Order new trailer and demo on stage
Destiny gameplay demo on stage
Couple mediocre 3rd party games like AssCreed or something
5 minutes of Vita, including a brief new trailer for Gravity Rush 2. No AAA reveal on Vita

That's an optimistic outlook. Cut TLG and add Media Molecule reveal for a more realistic one.

I have no clue and that's super exciting. Anything could happen,. I hope there's a ton of new IP announced for all three consoles.

If they show uncharted I think they gotta give players a little bit of footage. Everyone wants to SEE it more than they want to hear about story and such.

Dream version:
-The Last Guardian
-Agent
-Guerilla RPG
-Crash by Sony Bend
-LittleBigPlanet 3D
-Wipeout Next
-Project Beast
-Kingdom Hearts 3
-Final Fantasy XV
-Uncharted 4

Real version:
-Blablabla
-The Last Of Us: Remastered
-Driveclub
-Gaikai
-Tech demo by Quantic Dream
-Indies with no date
-The Order: 1886
-Gran Turismo 7: Prologue
-Destiny
-Assassin's Creed V
-Morpheus
-1 AAA announcement (Guerilla or MM or SMS)

I want to see GG's WRPG, maybe its too soon for that. Apart from that any other new IP that isn't a linear action adventure game.

I suppose that's what I want rather than expect. For expect new Uncharted, GT, LBP maybe.

Weirdly enough, I'm hyped for potential Vita announcements more than anything else. PS3/PS4 are gonna keep working out. There will be games, trains will keep rolling. Not saying I won't look at announcements, but I feel that's all going to be pretty safe anyway. Nothing can rock those boats at this point.

Vita though, we're still missing some important things. Like an official western release of the Vita TV, Vita 2k in the EU, and memory cards beyond 32GB. Also think there's going to be room for price drops again. Basically, anything that makes the sales pick up just a bit more could do wonders for Japanese mid-tier support at this juncture.

In going for a happy middle ground somewhere between these two estimations.

Was never given a date.

No but there were some people on the internet saying it was Sony's big game this November to go head to head with Halo.

I think it's actually closer to this:

  • Won't start on time
  • Intro montage
  • PS Vita / PS3 talk first 10-15 minutes
  • PS3 talk transists into 'PS3 top games remastered for PS4' talk (The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls)
  • PS4 PR (possibly new sales numbers, pro-consumer talk, "future of PS4 is bright")
  • Uncharted world reveal trailer, talk about "one of the most respected development studios in the world, Naughty Dog)
  • #DRIVECLUB trailer, "most beautiful racing game ever made" - The Order: 1886 release date (2014) trailer, "imaginitive new IP from Ready At Dawn"
  • "Exciting line-up for 2014 and into 2015", world reveal (teaser?) trailer of new exclusive PS4 game
  • Indie games segment
  • Little bit about the 'success' of PlayStation Plus, transists into talk about the 'next big cloud service': PlayStation Now details, launch date
  • Project Morpheus vision, perhaps already an official name, "made in tandem with PS4", coming 2015
  • Third party show off: Destiny for sure. Maybe the new Assassin's Creed.
  • Surprise world reveal (teaser?) trailer of new exclusive PS4 game
  • Closing words
  • Ending montage

I think this pretty much covers anything they need to talk about. Time is spend on PS3 + remastered titles and PS Vita. PS4 sales/PR. Indie love. PS Now details shared. Project Morpheus vision shared. Both announced an unannounced PS4 games get attention.

Well for one I was just doing the broad topic areas and times =). However I doubt they will talk about PS Now or Morpheus, they will be bringing back on stage Sony Studios executive talking up Powers and new TV shows and movies in relation to PS+.

Don't expect any announcements during the presser, but we might get something as the event continues.

Yeah, and it's been on Vita since right around launch, if not day one. This is the second time I've heard someone say it doesn't have Netflix, and I'm really confused as to why people think this.

Not in Europe. And there is no reason why there isn't as I understand it.
Then again we neither have TV or Movies from Sonys service as well...

So, there is no Netflix app for Vita.

I believe Tidux said on twitter that GG's new IP will be at e3.

Ah okay, curious as to what it is. Thanks!

A lot of indies to pad a pretty thin 1st party lineup. A lot of 3rd party stuff, like Destiny. And more tech demos.

It's best to keep expectations low. I want to be surprised rather than disappointed.

What'll be the next Agent or Last Guardian shown by Sony this E3?

I'm thinking Sony will continue to be conservative

-Destiny
-Maybe MGSV
-The Order
-Assassin's Creed Unity(?)
- PS4 montage.and sales numbers
- PSNow/other Apps for PS4
-Another indie game showcase.
-PS3/Vita montage.
-Uncharted reveal.
-Project Beast/or trademarked games reveal.
-Show ends with a QD tech demo for Morpheus.

Each his own opinion, of course, but why wouldn't they talk about PS Now? I can understand your reservations about talking about Morpheus, but PS Now? That's basically their 'next big thing'. It's been the thing they've been talking about since February 2013, when they revealed the PS4.
PS Now is also launching this summer, so - to me - it only seems logical that they give it attention at E3.

Additionally, what have 'TV shows' and 'movies' to do with PS+? I don't get it. Never ever has there been a link between PS+ and movies and TV shows.

Thanks for reading. :)

GG's IP reveal is pretty likely. And also, anyone leaving out Square and Eidos games is underrating things too much.

GG is a terrible dev, killzone is terrible so their next game will probably be terrible. They just focus on graphics too much.

Finally! I am back on neogaf! Felt like an eternity...
I am excited for whatever MM is cooking. That, and The Order 1886 proper reintroduction.
Uncharted. if revealed, would be a lock for most impressive piece of footage at E3...

Other than FF and Kingdom Hearts I don't see any of Square's games being shown. It would be rad if Deus Ex and Sleeping Dogs were shown though. GG new IP will probably be revealed at Gamescom

Bloodborne and Guns Up!

Hopefully people realize that of those five new IPs, most are probably smaller titles. Hyping yourself up without knowing that is just going to disappoint.

Then again, they COULD all be big games, but we won't hear about them all this E3.

Lol, this is more than a little unrealistic when a lot of these developers are confirmed for appearances at the show.

Honestly Sony is so far in the lead that they don't need to show much. I imagine they'd play it conservative with 1 big unveiling.

They have what it takes to exchange blows with MS on -at least- equal footing. But you are right, they might keep some goodies under wrap to show them at Gamescom and TGS.
I am expecting Uncharted4 trailer, The Order 1886 and DriveClub proper demos, MM and Bend new projects, and two or three second party titles. It should be strong enough, when you consider Gaikai info and Morpheus projects + third party offering. Oh yes, forgot about GG second project!

Surely there is a good chance of a on-stage vision GT from Kaz?

He has been quoted months ago saying GT7 would only be 1-2 years away....

I don't think that they will talk about any Gran Turismo game until DriveClub comes out. Otherwise, Gran Turismo would just take away sales from DriveClub.

Some predictions:

-The Last Guardian re-reveal
with a BS message saying how development had to move to PS4 because of limitations the PS3 had, but then the splash screen for is shows "for PS4 and Vita" completely undermining their reason to move to PS4 and the announcement becomes a minor meme.
-Gravity Rush 2 for PS4 and Vita
-First English Final Fantasy XV trailer
-Some Sony published/developed JRPG
