i know its a bit weird to speculate about this when we haven't seen a lick of footage from this game...but I wonder if Sony wanted this to be a franchise on PS4 or if this is just a one off collaboration. Especially with From's recent buyout i don't know that future exclusives will even be possible.

Lost track of this thread many pages ago. Can someone fill me in on what I missed? Any more info than just these screens? What's the likelihood this is legit?

Thanks :)

It's not like major publishers are never willing to collaborate with first parties or anything. If Sony is willing to pay for development, why wouldn't Kadokawa be willing to work with them?

See Demon Gaze and Natural Doctrine.

Those were not owned or published by Sony though. They were just on Sony platforms. Beast/Demon are both owned and published by Sony. This is why i'm wondering if they would be okay with it.

But anyway like they said earlier too early to tell what it means of course but It's really an interesting situation.

How weird would it be to see Project Beast be an exclusive franchise, only for From to go and make another spiritual successor with a different name again?

Seems like Sony could make a big splash with this game then pump out a sequel with a new team that basically reuses the same formula. Like Biosock 2.

This is a pretty good leak for all intents and purposes looking from sony's side. Only a few stills. No video.
Gets people hyped for sony's E3 conference because surely that's where we'll see an announcement video.

Natural Doctrine is the only game Kadokawa's made so far. IIRC, their development studio is brand new.

Demon Gaze was made by Experience.
As far as I know it's co-developed.

There's also Kantai Collection on the Vita, if they really had issues with Sony they wouldn't put their cash cow only on their system.

Given how Sony let the Souls games slip, I wouldn't be surprised if they made a multi-game deal, in which case, From sold with the contract in place.

I don't think it's issues. It would just seem like it would be as if EA loaned out Dice to Microsoft to work on another Halo game for Xbox One. Being that it's a Sony owned IP by A now Kodakowa owned developer.

This would have been a wise move.

Ok, question guys..

Anyone know for CERTAIN who technically owns the demon's souls IP? We all know Sony & From collaborated on Demon's Souls but who owns the actual IP?

I ask because I wonder if there would ever be another Folklore game, which was a collab between Sony & Game Republic (a studio that is now dead). If Sony retains IP rights to Folklore it gives me hope for a sequel.

I would have thought for sure that the publisher retains IP rights regardless of what happens to the development studio but MS's acquisition of RARE signaled to me that games like Conker & Banjo were never Nintendo's in the first place.

Whatever Sony funds/publishes, they own.

I wonder how Miyazaki would response should someone tweet/send this picture to him.

From seems to be very deeply affected by everything the fans do and say. We're talking about the company where they cherish a DVD copy of Orcarest's Barbarian run and Miyazaki keeps a digital picture frame on his desk that constantly displays internet comments about the games he's worked on.

If they understood the motivation behind the picture and how incredibly hyped people are for this, I think they'd be flattered.

Yup. Losing Crash and Spyro hit them hard, so they make sure nothing like that will ever happen again.

I wonder when they started that policy of locking down IP rights ASAP. I remember Limbo didn't come to PSN initially because Sony wanted ownership of the IP as stipulation for publishing it on PSN..

and Sony wasn't doing anything interesting with the Spyro IP in the first place, Activation at least took it in an interesting direction

Not to be a wet blanket, but I think the pic is more appropriate without Spencer in the train tracks.

It feels... unecessary and kind of mean.

Anyways, carry on :)

Just waiting for Space Souls in 2020.

Massive derelict space station, you wake up from stasis. Armed with a broken pipe and a piece of scrap metal as a shield, you make your way through the stasis chambers, all of them empty, some of them broken from the inside. Former crewmembers attack you, appartenly mindless drones now, at the end of the hall you see a familiar sword stuck in ash, glowing calmly. You are about to lit the bonfire when a massive creature attacks you from a dark corner. YOU DIED

He'll just end up being a disappointment like Old Iron King and most other bosses that large. Give me more one on one fights like Artorias and Allant please.

Amen for that. Those fights were immensely enjoyable because they play to the engine's strengths. Almost every other battle feels like its partially a struggle against the enemy and one against the controls but Allant and Artorias let you fully concentrate on the battle itself.

This idea that you could take Souls and just drop it in space for no reason actually hurts my brain. It's one of those things you do when you've completely run out of ideas and you're just trying to milk it further. Hmmm what do we do with Jason now that we've done 10,000 slasher flicks with him? Put him in space!

From working on a sci fi ip would be interesting. "Souls in space" is bottom of the barrel creative thought. If your idea is basically just mashing two completely unrelated things together, you're not really making full use of either concept.

"Space Souls" doesn't mean astronauts and rocket ships on the moon though, it isn't Destiny - it means A.I. run dystopian cybernetic apocalypse, which has bucketloads of synchronicity with Souls Series.
