Coming from a company that got a really large windfall recently, I hope this fails.
I've been a huge fan of HMX with the RB series, but I'm not funding something they could easily fund themselves. They just don't want to put any of their own money into it. Sorry but if you don't have enough faith to put some of your own money into the game, neither do I.
A lot of the questions are mentioned in the Kickstarter, hopefully the OP updates it:
Arent Kickstarter campaigns usually 30 days? Why is this one only 18? "Our campaign end date was chosen based on a need to assign developers to projects shortly after the end of this Kickstarter.
Our Kickstarter will allow us to secure Amplitude development resources here at Harmonix that otherwise will be assigned elsewhere. Thats an important date were working with! We hope that backers get behind the project in the window we have!"
Just out of curiosity, has anyone else here suffered through both games on expert? Have you seen hell?
Also, most my favorite tracks in Frequency/Amplitude were licensed. BT's Kimosabe, Styles of Beyond's Subculture, Quarashi's Bassline, Frequency(by Fear Factory), Juno Reactor's Higher Ground(GODLIKE), Nitro Narcosis, hell even the Slipknot track.
Bah, Frequency/Amplitude on hard/insane weren't that hard
compared to 12 star songs in IIDX. :V
I do remember going nuts when I unlocked Luge Crash and End of Your World on Frequency, having no idea there were songs beyond the default 25. Amplitude was also the first game I played online with my PS2 -- thinking about it, the game was way ahead of its time in many regards.
I kind of want to see them do what Konami does with the Beatmania games now: find some relatively obscure musicians that fit the game's demographic and commission songs from them that Harmonix would then own outright. It seems like it would be cheaper than licensing songs and it's a hell of a lot easier to deal with legally.
Now watch as something from Prim shows up in Amplitude and I start peeling the skin from my body...

I believe they stated on the Twitch livestream that they ARE putting in their own money, to the tune of about a million bucks, if they see there's enough demand via the Kickstarter. But they don't want to blow a million plus and then discover no one really cares about an Amplitude HD.

They wanted to do it at PAX, but legal issues prevented it. And more than likely, it's because Fantasia is going to start winding down development somewhere around then, and if the Kickstarter ends after that, they're looking at having some of the people that they would have working on the game sitting around because they wouldn't know whether they'd get to work on this or if they should lay them off/assign them to a different project.

Its not, for whatever reason that poster missed the most important part. A lot of artists and other asset creators are "rolling over" ( I assume this means leaving or going toother projects) because Fantasia is wrapping up. They are doing this around some sort of deadline in the next few weeks, unless they are given additional work. They wanted to announce the kickstarter earlier, but some paperwork wasnt officially signed yet (basically Sony giving their legal blessing without funding) so they couldnt.
Backed. Hopefully Kasson Crooker (the man behind Symbion Project, a third of Freezepop, and alot of the original tracks in Amplitude/Frequency) are contributing work to the game.

Man was he a bummer to meet in person. I had them sign my copies of the games, and I asked him about his Symbion work, and he said 'it's just game music'.
While we haven’t announced our stretch goals yet (as our current goal is simply to hit our funding ask) we can confirm that Vita is a stretch goal for this project, and we’d be excited to develop for it!
What makes you think that is likely? If they're not involved in funding the game, I can't fathom them wanting to invest their resources doing music licensing for it when Harmonix is perfectly capable.

If they want to punish Sony for refusing to make a deal, they have an odd way of showing it.
Harmonix still has money in the bank from all those plastic guitars they sold us, so I'm gonna take my money and spend it on groceries or something instead of this. I'd be happy to buy the game if they end up making it, though.

I don't think anyone is going to argue that they're poor exactly. But this is why they'd rather not waste a full $2 million on remaking a game that originally didn't sell well and perhaps nobody is going to want. $750k Kickstarter to gauge interest and over $1 million in self-funding if the Kickstarter succeeds doesn't strike me as outrageous for a niche title that is very difficult to estimate perceived consumer interest in. Most of the backers are really just pre-ordering anyway (1,000 of them at a $5 discount) and will simply get their money back if the Kickstarter fails.
Yeah, I get what you mean. I've heard a lot of his music though, and I can understand him placing more value on his other work that wasn't designed for a game.
I am surprised that many people here know about the game; I really hope they make this! None of my friends knew about the game. I first played Frequency through the OPM Magazine my dad subscribed for us. I was hooked and it was the first demo where I pretty much went out with what's left of my pocket change and bought the full game (whereas I usually and shamelessly waited until my birthday or xmas for my parents to buy it).

Ehhhh, I doubt they really need the money. For projects like this, Kickstarter campaigns generate more value out of the PR that they generate than from the money they earn.
what? how would that be against the rules? if its failing... and sony fronts the remainder amount on day 18, how is that bad? yeah people will be charged, because the game made its goal, and thats the entire point. i dont see the problem here.
I will wait on this for more info, especially about the possible Vita version, but it would be an easy parting of $20 for me. Seems like they will make the target as it is off to a decent start at the moment.
The game needs to have Freezepop in it.
However, I want the Octagon back, the playing field with the 'looping' Octagon was miles better than the flat Amplitude playing field, for planning routes and high score runs.
I don't back often, but I'm backing this. I had plenty of fun with Frequency and Amplitude as a kid(got Frequency as a birthday gift not knowing what the hell it was). I was addicted to that damn thing, and making your own remixes was so fun. Amplitude was basically a better version.
They said that if the game gets funded, they're putting half a million of their own money into it. This isn't the entire cost of developing the game.

Was that your last rhythm game? Calibration gives potentially perfect results with this sort of game.
Lag doesn't need to be an issue at all when you know ahead of time what input you're expecting from the player. (unless there's controller-related lag as in Rocksmith)
Rock Band 2 and Rock Band 3 even had auto-calibration using a tiny camera and mic in conjunction with an animated test pattern and test tones.

Anyone else annoyed that the $15 pledge was only valid for the first 1000 people? That's less than 2% of the total kickstarter amount. It was gone after less than 24 hours from the kickstarter start.
Seriously, you want us to wait for a year, and you price the kickstarter at $20 for an HD remake. Really? That's the expected retail price(!!!), as many have pointed out.
Dear Harmonix: I've bought most of your games and this feels like a slap to the face. I hope I'm not the only one feeling that way.

How do you know that's the expected retail price? For all we know they could choose to price it at $25/$30/$40. I did not see anything from them in regards to the retail price if they get the funding.

finally, it's been a long held dream of mine to fund the production of an exclusive sony held IP from my own pocket. i'd have settled for a stretch goal which ensures no xbox version.
good to see shu and boyes retweeting this too. really shows their commitment to the IP's future.

I think he's still the audio director at Harmonix, so I can't image he wouldn't. He's not with Freezepop anymore, but they had to get two people to replace him, which might say something.
