Sunset Overdrive website - say hello to Fizzie! (Insomniac/MS/XB1)

These things can actually be pretty 'dangerous' as far as marketing goes....one bad joke can move very quickly and get people fired just as fast

nothing they've done has been bad so far. No cursing, no sexual references. I doubt they'd relegate an intern to marketing for their game.

Ive found the stuff funny so far

I'm curious over the title, but it just doesn't seem fit with MS's other lineup. Not since the days of like Viva Pinjata and Kameo at least. The off beat/whacky stuff is usually Sony's territory with Unfinished Swan, Puppetter, Rain, Rachet & Clank etc. I'm certainly not gonna pickup an X1 for it, but I would totally have given S.O. a fair shot if it had have been available on PS3/4.

This is some of the smartest marketing I've ever seen. Create a give no fucks twitter handle set to a character in your game and let it just go to town. Some of the tweets have been glorious.

#ShouldaDrankOverCharge

Not real btw. Just a reply to "that might not have been the best idea, fizzie." Which would have been true if FissCo was real. Their product killz.

new generation, new lineup strategy

Fight, fight, fight...
Ok this is scary... i was listening to a Fallout 3/ New Vegas playlist and the song Somethings gotta give, at exactly the same moment that i read your reactions those words were also in the lyrics of the song. Fight fight fight haha

Im loving the art style, and i get a bit of a crackdown vibe with the initial trailer.

- Traversing a large open world in fun ways
- Potentially tackling different bosses (areas) whenever you like
- Perhaps collecting fizz drinks (similar to orbs)
- Perhaps fizz giving the player powers (large jumps e.t.c)

I could be wayy off though, but i hope it does have a little crackdown feel to it.

Its like you had a checklist standing by.

Edit: You're basically saying Xbox exclusives are generic and formulaic while Sony is the one who tries new things. I would say that while Sony's breadth of content often eclipses MS to say MS never takes chances or does anything new is ridiculous. And whats worse is that whenever a game that doesn't fit that narrative is brought up people say "Oh well it doesn't fit MS' portfolio".

And if that wasn't your intention is just comes off as thinly veiled port begging.

This sounds amazing

good stuff.

this is the problem with gamers, when sony releases something like this they get praised like they are the saviour of gaming, but when MS tries something like this they are met with pessimism and backlash.

yeah please don't lump the rest of us with this guy. -_-

Lots of talk about Ratchet-like weapons, Skill based platforming, fun first...... honestly sounds like a platforming GTA with a cartoon cover and 3d platforming
Could be cool!

They did a Q&A on Twitch shortly after last E3. Thread here (with a summary in the OP). No real concrete gameplay details, though, beyond the very basics (third person, emphasis on traversal, etc).

Other than that, they've been in stealth mode up until last month's edge teased the article in the upcoming issue.
That's, uh... very very little information. I can totally see the hype behind the potential for this being good, but...

So we can't just be excited for new IP from well liked developer. No need to be negative Nancy
...while there's cause for excitement, it's a little difficult to see why this has been bandied around as a potential killer app. There's just next to nothing known or shown about this game at all. I'd expected I'd missed an info dump given the level of excitement for this, but there's so little right now.

I hope it's good, even though I don't have an X1, as I want developers who try something more creative (especially in the shooter realm) to succeed. I'm just surprised the level of excitement and anticipation is this high given what we know.

Then again, there IS that Project Beast thread...

Who said its the next killer app? Can you point me to that?

Imo it could be fun. For now its just funny marketing and a promising concept.

LOL? Those are just the more recentish games that come to mind when I think weird/off-beat, or whacky/comical. You can't tell most people that things like Unfinshed Swan, Rain, Tomas Was Alone are ''games''. At least not games as they understand them. 'Yeah, you throw black ink around', 'you control some colored blocks'. 'You're invisible, right? And you can only be seen in the rain. And there are rain monsters'. To me their artistic experiences rather than 'games' so-to-speak. Or when you think whacky/comical you tend to veer towards Sony platformers/mascots like Sackboy, Rachet & Clank. I can't remember the last mascot-y game Xbox had unless I again went back to the likes of Banjo 2 or Kameo. Maybe it's just the art style of Sunset Overdrive, but if I were to look at it without any prior knowledge I'd bed my last dollor it was a Sony game. I'm not even ragging on it, I'm just saying it seems so at-odds with MS's other lineup, and it's a shame that it won't be on a PS device so that I can at least try it out. But, like the poster above said, new generation, new lineup strategy .

Who thinks Microsoft will partner with Doritos and Mountain Dew at some point to try to sell this beverage?

Characters remind me of Overstrike/Fuse.

Getting pretty close to port begging.

Lol at the Sony exclusive list bs. As for not fitting in with the rest of the rest "lineup" would that be the same lineup that includes a game about a kid with a magic marker, a Swery game, and a game about a sentient motorcycle that does kung fu? But this game doesn't fit?

Get the port begging out of here.

Rebranding MD: Livewire as OverCharge XT would be awesome.

Even though it probably won't be the same as what the press is getting. :(

JStevenson send me a can

Getting pretty close to port begging.

I... suppose... though that wasn't really the intent. Just lamenting the fact that I won't get to play it, and 'hoping', really, that it does well for them after FUSE didn't. Especially when it seems to be in unfamilliar territory with other more serious-themed games as it's companions.

Fizzie has been on fire on twitter. Glad to see marketing ramp up on this one.

Also, real cans of OverCharge! Amazing.

man.... x game that sony is publishing doesn't fit in with their other games. Seems like it would fit in with Microsofts lineup better. Too bad it's not coming out for the xb1. I would have bought it and given it a chance. But I guess they will just have to lose my sale....too bad.

Oh what guys? I'm totally not port begging. Or at least, that's not what the intent was.

Serious themed? You mean asthetics? Because I wouldn't called Dead Rising and KI "serious" actually what the heck is serious?!

Project Spark? Kinect Sports Rivals? Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare?

SO meshes perfectly well with the line up.

I don't get this "looks like a Sony game" stuff, games are games to me whatever platform. Creating some sort of fake rule or standard, it's bullshit.

Have you seen Lococycle? That game is some crazy ass shit, Sunset Overdrive is in great company!

Fizzie and IRIS need to go on a date

You're just gonna keep digging that hole, huh?
