Fighting Games Weekly | May 5-11 | Dahbomb's Marvel Fanfic

I bought Skullgirls on PC. Are the characters available there or no? Played it a little bit and it's not my type of game but I will invest more time into it over summer break.

I would love to see a fighting game that trains you in different ways through exercises. Here are some examples that I think Marvel could use (I choose this game because I know it best):

Pursuing opponents effectively:
The AI controls Dormammu and continually tridashes away mixed with random teleports. The AI blocks 100% of the time forward and pushblocks, but will never break throws or block a cross-up. You must hit Dormammu.

I like this exercise because it's basically my point Dormammu team, which I use against people who just don't know how to mount an offense and apply pressure.

Mix-up tutorial:
The AI controls will block everything until you perform a high/low or low/high within X number of frames.

Pressure tutorial:
You must attack three times between being pushblocked before the AI will take a hit.

Stuff like this would be so fun to play through, and it would really teach folks how to play. Street Fighter could have focus attack tutorials and such.

Have you played Killer Instinct? I felt the trials in that game were pretty damn good.
Yeah KI and BBCP both have pretty damn good tutorials. Blazblue even has tutorials for each character.

Similar to stuff you're suggesting Karst.

I'd go into more details but I'd have to turn on the games and that is just no good right now. I'm sooooo hungover. I'll get into it later if I remember and if no one else has by then.

Apparently a potential successor to the souls game has images, plausible at the moment.

New to FGC-GAF is the FGC-GAF Index which lists the fighting games GAFers plays as a neat reference with some rough statistics to boot. To add yourself to the index, quote this post and use the survey link below. Please remember to save/bookmark the "Edit your response" link so you can edit your responses if/when you buy a game already on the list or a new game that releases in the future.

the KoF section for the poll lacks a Steam option :(
I've recently moved to the Netherlands, but couldn't quite bring my consoles yet, so for the time being Steam it is for me...

I guess I'll fill out the form when it's eventually complete...

Man.. a 1500 k makoto just cut some promo combos on me. Getting back to sf4 has been rough to say the least. The skill level is so much better than it was a year ago.

Successor to a sequel that came out two months ago

Oh boy...

They are, though Squiggly isn't free anymore (time limit expired) Big Band is.

I've seen Ryus punish blocked Hawk Dives a ton, but Evil Ryus don't- any reason for that?

The speed increase will make certain footsies for Hawk a lot better- if Hawk gets easier footsies that alone would be huge (guessing the blankaball punish now is either jab spire or a walking cr.strong/forward)

E.Ryus don't think about it. He might also have certain minute differences that make it harder. I'll probably try and see if I can punish it like Ryu later tonight.

Yeah, his ground pressure is crazy now, but from my own time playing the character, when he jumps at a range where he can either condor dive or empty jump SPD, you're probably better off just DPing that shit. If you keep T. Hawk honest his air shenanigans are pretty much just after knockdowns or a ground whiff like a fireball.

Air shenanigans can be frustrating to an opponent if you can keep yourself composed as T.hawk. Correctly timed short empty jumps from longer distances will make people with DPs whiff and give you a fat punish, or if they're hitting you with non-invinicible moves, Dive can punish them. If anything, it's a little more potent if you can mix in the ground pressure.

also helped by a super impatient Hawk. That said getting zoned out as a grappler is really frustrating, and it's hard to fight that impulse.

That said, I do think Hawk's weaknesses are going to be known more/exploited more in Ultra, so I think you'll see more of this- I just hope it isn't so much that Hawk drops to below mid tier.

Most of his weaknesses are already exploited in 2012, no pressure and poor mobility. With Ultra, he gets those fixed so while you can punish him with stuff, you won't be able to blow him up as much. He'll have weaknesses but it won't be the same ones as in AE. He has the mobility now, the pressure, and the anti-airs he needs.

Solid T. Hawk play involved heavy footsies to begin with, so he got better in that regard. Once people learn to exploit his weaknesses with the matchup appearing more often then he'll just drop out of the "overpowered" conversation.

Edit: Oh yeah, T. Hawk vs Chun-Li used to be a nightmare for T. Hawk. It was pretty much like Honda vs. Chun-Li, so you don't even need a dp to stop T. Hawk's air approach.

Chun-Li is not as bad as Honda, Blanka, or Guile for Hawk. She has the long reach and speed and has some good AAs but it's easier to exploit her gaps to get in. I don't think many of her changes will make it out balance the buffs Hawk got.

Yeah, Nemo is very likeable! Dat Japanese swag

Nemo's surprisingly friendly. Not quite as much as Tokido or Abegen but he's got a sense of humor and has fun while playing games. Taunt was an accident in the match but he was having loads of fun with Ultra. He was showing F.Champ some tech he found with Rolento, lol.

Yes!

Man, he must have walked away with some good money. 1st in AE and KOF and top 8 in Marvel

Considering he lost 1k to Reynald, He came back with a bit less than you'd expect.

I can't believe the Champ/Nemo money match didn't happen. I hope this doesn't diminish the number of future appearances from Nemo at American tournaments. Flying from Japan isn't cheap, and I'd assume he's confident enough in his money match prowess that he was counting on bringing it home.

I said this in the NWM thread but Nemo wants to play US players and not just MMs. He'd play them without cash on the line. Only reason he can't come to the US more is because of work.

I think Shouta mostly paid for Nemo to come out here this time? Sadly, no Nemo at EVO this year either; we talked to him last night and it does not sound like he is coming. Shouta can probably go into better detail about reasoning.

I paid for the ticket and the hotel rooms the JPs, which is why I know Nemo wasn't just coming out because of Champ, lol.

I was going to write a detailed summary of what we did but I might save you guys the trouble of reading it by only putting some simple thoughts.

- JP guys are chill for the most part and sat down and play with a ton of folks in every game.
- Nemo seems to have a bit of a sweet-tooth considering the food and stuff he eat.
- Tokido is quite talkative and chill.
- Abegen is funny and friendly.
- All 3 dug the food they had. Lapchi took them out to Seafood instead of me, which saved me a bit, lol.
- They really liked Seattle a lot
- Reynald vs Tokido was amazing.
- We had a ton of folks on Friday night while we were still setting up, which was amazing.
- Main tournament today (Sat) was ridiculously busy for me until after I got beat in pools for AE, 3-2 and one of the matches included Kalamari, a fellow GAFfer.
- BronsonTran and Combofiend treated me to lunch and we had a long talk about some stuff. I dq'd myself out of BB and TTT2. Got busy again after lunch, lol
- Gave Rog a ride back to the hotel on Saturday night. Hit up burger king for him and the Jps ended ordering more whoppers for themselves liek the night before.
- Talked to Rog about Marn being my evil twin, he laughed hard.
- Hypest single moment for me was the Happy Birthday pick up from the palm stun.
- Most fun to watch was Sanford Kelly. He played his heart out and almost got to second place.
- I got to chill on Sunday because I did all of the set-up so I could to sit and stream monster with Kalamari and Cybit at the venue.
- KBR getting back up to 2nd place was amazing and he really did well for himself to help him get out of his slump.
- Rog vs Lapchi drinking contest was really amusing.
- Nemo getting hype at Ultra while trolling champ's Sim and Seth with Rolento killed me.
- JPs were really happy with the trip as I saw them off at the airport. I'm hoping they'll be motivated to come again next year as we're planning on having NWM around Golden week again.

Also, my friend and I found that Decapre can combo into U2 combo that 450-500 damage without spending bars and if it's a full-powered U2 and not Ultra Double. She also has about 900 or 950 life, looked like 900 would be more accurate.

My favorite picture from Saturday is this guy that I took with my smartphone,

Great write up.

The double Palm against the Tenderizer assist had me LEGIT SHOOK. At first I didn't know why Strange was waiting so long to pick up Doom after the Impact Palm and when he went up to pick up Super Skrull it hit me like a fucking truck...

He had Impact Palm'd the limbs of Super Skrull like you hit the limbs of Dhalsim in SF! That's so rare in this game because almost everyone has disjointed limbs (that is to say their hurtboxes don't usually overlap with their hit boxes especially the sword normal characters).

Hey Shouta, how big was the venue?

Also, awesome writeup!

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=110458801&postcount=185

Don't know the square-footage but it's a big venue and we fit a lot of setups. We didn't even use the second floor as much as we could have either.

Shouta you didn't ask Combofriend about Deejay did you :(

I just got my ass handed to me 10-0 by a Rose.. those normals

He said learn to block. Also, they'll be putting out videos like they did for SFxT on points where the char has changed and what to watch for.

Prepare for Dark Souls Calibur next
I'm not going to lie, if Namco made/commissioned a game that played like Dark Souls set in the Soul Calibur universe... I would play the everliving shit out of that, no joke. That's what a single-player SC game should have been, not the wackness that is Lost Souls.

I'm pushing the start but nothing is happening halp :<

Seriously though, the drills and challenges in the tutorial for VF4:Evo are something else. It's a shame that no game has even come close to replicating Evo's training modes.

"Learn to block" is the new "get better with Spider Man".
But people do need to learn how to block. :p

More USF4 tier lists:

http://shoryuken.com/2014/05/05/tkd...reet-fighter-iv-impressions-in-new-tier-list/

This is the Arcade build so it's definitely not accurate based on the most current build. And it's been confirmed that there is another build after the one at Stunfest/NWM.

LMAO @ Z Warrior tier though.
There should be 2 more, I believe. Dunno if that's 2 more betas than a final, or 1 beta, 1 near-final where only emergency tweaks/fixes will be made.

"Everyone Else" = "I have no idea"

Damn, looks way bigger than the SCR venue

man looks like I need to go to nwn next year to get that shouta treatment

Same here lol

Does BBCP have stuff the older BB games dont? Because I felt like the older ones were really bad in that department.

I think it's important that the tutorials are fun. Earlier BB games were just text and watching the computer do stuff or practicing combos. Pretty terrible.

Shall we all play it together that week? I have PS+.
Maybe we need a GAF Skullgirls night the weekend of its release. :)

marvel is only watchable right now b/c ChrisG stopped giving a fuck or is getting all emo or whatever. When he was at his peak, this game was not watchable.
