I've seen Ryus punish blocked Hawk Dives a ton, but Evil Ryus don't- any reason for that?
The speed increase will make certain footsies for Hawk a lot better- if Hawk gets easier footsies that alone would be huge (guessing the blankaball punish now is either jab spire or a walking cr.strong/forward)
E.Ryus don't think about it. He might also have certain minute differences that make it harder. I'll probably try and see if I can punish it like Ryu later tonight.
Yeah, his ground pressure is crazy now, but from my own time playing the character, when he jumps at a range where he can either condor dive or empty jump SPD, you're probably better off just DPing that shit. If you keep T. Hawk honest his air shenanigans are pretty much just after knockdowns or a ground whiff like a fireball.
Air shenanigans can be frustrating to an opponent if you can keep yourself composed as T.hawk. Correctly timed short empty jumps from longer distances will make people with DPs whiff and give you a fat punish, or if they're hitting you with non-invinicible moves, Dive can punish them. If anything, it's a little more potent if you can mix in the ground pressure.
also helped by a super impatient Hawk. That said getting zoned out as a grappler is really frustrating, and it's hard to fight that impulse.
That said, I do think Hawk's weaknesses are going to be known more/exploited more in Ultra, so I think you'll see more of this- I just hope it isn't so much that Hawk drops to below mid tier.
Most of his weaknesses are already exploited in 2012, no pressure and poor mobility. With Ultra, he gets those fixed so while you can punish him with stuff, you won't be able to blow him up as much. He'll have weaknesses but it won't be the same ones as in AE. He has the mobility now, the pressure, and the anti-airs he needs.
Solid T. Hawk play involved heavy footsies to begin with, so he got better in that regard. Once people learn to exploit his weaknesses with the matchup appearing more often then he'll just drop out of the "overpowered" conversation.
Edit: Oh yeah, T. Hawk vs Chun-Li used to be a nightmare for T. Hawk. It was pretty much like Honda vs. Chun-Li, so you don't even need a dp to stop T. Hawk's air approach.
Chun-Li is not as bad as Honda, Blanka, or Guile for Hawk. She has the long reach and speed and has some good AAs but it's easier to exploit her gaps to get in. I don't think many of her changes will make it out balance the buffs Hawk got.
Yeah, Nemo is very likeable! Dat Japanese swag
Nemo's surprisingly friendly. Not quite as much as Tokido or Abegen but he's got a sense of humor and has fun while playing games. Taunt was an accident in the match but he was having loads of fun with Ultra. He was showing F.Champ some tech he found with Rolento, lol.
Yes!
Man, he must have walked away with some good money. 1st in AE and KOF and top 8 in Marvel
Considering he lost 1k to Reynald, He came back with a bit less than you'd expect.
I can't believe the Champ/Nemo money match didn't happen. I hope this doesn't diminish the number of future appearances from Nemo at American tournaments. Flying from Japan isn't cheap, and I'd assume he's confident enough in his money match prowess that he was counting on bringing it home.
I said this in the NWM thread but Nemo wants to play US players and not just MMs. He'd play them without cash on the line. Only reason he can't come to the US more is because of work.
I think Shouta mostly paid for Nemo to come out here this time? Sadly, no Nemo at EVO this year either; we talked to him last night and it does not sound like he is coming. Shouta can probably go into better detail about reasoning.
I paid for the ticket and the hotel rooms the JPs, which is why I know Nemo wasn't just coming out because of Champ, lol.
I was going to write a detailed summary of what we did but I might save you guys the trouble of reading it by only putting some simple thoughts.
- JP guys are chill for the most part and sat down and play with a ton of folks in every game.
- Nemo seems to have a bit of a sweet-tooth considering the food and stuff he eat.
- Tokido is quite talkative and chill.
- Abegen is funny and friendly.
- All 3 dug the food they had. Lapchi took them out to Seafood instead of me, which saved me a bit, lol.
- They really liked Seattle a lot
- Reynald vs Tokido was amazing.
- We had a ton of folks on Friday night while we were still setting up, which was amazing.
- Main tournament today (Sat) was ridiculously busy for me until after I got beat in pools for AE, 3-2 and one of the matches included Kalamari, a fellow GAFfer.
- BronsonTran and Combofiend treated me to lunch and we had a long talk about some stuff. I dq'd myself out of BB and TTT2. Got busy again after lunch, lol
- Gave Rog a ride back to the hotel on Saturday night. Hit up burger king for him and the Jps ended ordering more whoppers for themselves liek the night before.
- Talked to Rog about Marn being my evil twin, he laughed hard.
- Hypest single moment for me was the Happy Birthday pick up from the palm stun.
- Most fun to watch was Sanford Kelly. He played his heart out and almost got to second place.
- I got to chill on Sunday because I did all of the set-up so I could to sit and stream monster with Kalamari and Cybit at the venue.
- KBR getting back up to 2nd place was amazing and he really did well for himself to help him get out of his slump.
- Rog vs Lapchi drinking contest was really amusing.
- Nemo getting hype at Ultra while trolling champ's Sim and Seth with Rolento killed me.
- JPs were really happy with the trip as I saw them off at the airport. I'm hoping they'll be motivated to come again next year as we're planning on having NWM around Golden week again.
Also, my friend and I found that Decapre can combo into U2 combo that 450-500 damage without spending bars and if it's a full-powered U2 and not Ultra Double. She also has about 900 or 950 life, looked like 900 would be more accurate.
My favorite picture from Saturday is this guy that I took with my smartphone,
