Not at all.

Demon's Souls 2 is not a more advantageous name than D???? Souls, the IP isn't worth much at all. The team making a Souls game is, but that's what I wrote.

If you're saying a Demon's Souls 2 by some no-name dev wont be advantageous then I agree but the game is being helmed by Miyazaki. Calling DeS2 or not is is still the same thing, the IP is being leveraged by the extension of the lore.

Demon's already gave hints towards Beasts with the talisman of beast and the soul of the old one called Beast's Soul. It would make sense for the game to be called Beast's Souls instead of Demon's Souls 2.

I will honestly throw a bitchflip if this turns out to be a PS3 exclusive.

This is why I am not buying into it yet, I believe there IS a Project Beast. We just don't know everything about it, and there's things that could ruin it for me.

Even if it's cross platform with PS3 my hype will be at "I don't give a shit" level.

Will still play the hell out of it.

But Sony has always had those same guys working this series, right? It's not like another company calling something Souls because this IP has always had the core Souls team involved in its creation. The team and the IP name go hand in hand. And as long as this team continues to be core to every DeSouls release, then it is now a gold mine IMO.

I hate to be THAT guy and be too lazy to read the thread, but is there any new confirmation or info in addition to what's in the OP and the cataloging of Demonite's past hints?

Not really.. Thuway also talked about it in its tweets. Nothing new, just that he knows about project beast

It's beautiful.

An exclusive souls game fully utilizing the PS4 hardware and networking ( interactive broadcasts, sharing) at E3. The battle would be over before it even began.

Souls games imo have the most fun live streams. And that culture seems to have had a positive affect on the sales, people like to play and show it online. It's going to be a good laugh seeing such playthroughs on PSN broadcast.

If this game is called Demon's Souls 2, which is Sony's IP, it won't do any better than if it's anything else with Souls at the end, which is a different IP. As the IP isn't impacting sales performance, it's not a 'gold mine'. The perfect example of this is already out, there's no reason to believe Dark Souls was hurt by not being Demon's Souls 2. The IP was irrelevant, or more realistically, the value of the IP couldn't be trademarked, because it was the 'Souls' suffix.

Demon's Souls isn't a gold mine, but then neither is the team really, Dark Souls 2 sold really well, and it's not by the same team, so what is the reliable source of fan interest? The developer being FROM and the game having a Souls suffix maybe? I'm not sure, but it's not like Sony is sitting on the Demon's Souls IP out of artistic solidarity, they need FROM, and in which case, they don't need the Demon's name.

I'm certainly not suggesting other publishers attempt to make clones and use the Souls name, that would be absurd. Although I am personally very surprised we haven't seen any Souls clones so far.

Lords of the Fallen looks like one. But a bit cheese.
It's funny you mention that, I saw a gameplay video of it a few weeks ago, and thought it looked nice, and today I thought that video was Bound by Flame, so when I saw that game again today, I couldn't figure out why it looked massively worse.

I hope it's not called Demon's Souls 2 because "Demon's Souls" is such an awkward thing to say and putting another syllable there would make it approach "New Super Mario Brothers Wii" levels of game titles you you don't want to say out loud.

SSSSsssssss.

The souls fans for the most part are well versed in gaming and know the difference and understand what makes Sony's offering and Namco's different. This thread alone shows that people know Sony are taking the Demon's IP to the next level even though it doesn't mention Souls or Demon's.

The game sells to core gamers so really it can be called whatever they want, we know the developer and we understand the meaning/significance behind the name "Beast".

I hope we see the amazing lighting engine in this game.

Just look at that. It looks a generation above DSII!

That was the April 2013 gameplay reveal with IGN. No doubt on PS3 and running at 30fps.

Now here is the TGS 2013 trailer. All real-time, not CG. Here it's 1080p | 60fps. No doubt running on a PC: http://www.gamersyde.com/hqstream_dark_souls_ii_tgs_trailer-30829_en.html
It's not just the lighting, but also, the geometry detail is higher and there are far more particle effects when stone pillars are broken than the released PC version.

And here is the more recent launch trailer for the final PC version of Dark Souls II: http://www.gamespot.com/videos/dark-souls-ii-pc-launch-trailer/2300-6418503/

Damn, there has to be a TON of different builds of Dark Souls II in From Software's office, in various states of development with different lighting models, levels of detail, framerates, across the 3 different platforms (PC, PS3, 360).

Anyway, with DSII, what's done is done. Bring on the BEAST.

It's a strange situation for the IP to be in.

Personally, I would like to see it be treated as a new IP, but lumped together with Demon's Souls and Soul Sacrifice as Sony's 'Dark Horror Fantasy' metaverse.

There is zero room to explore the Demon's Souls universe outside the Land of Giants.

New universe>Demon's Souls 2

This won't be on PS3. Sony is not that stupid. Right now they need software to sell PS4s, and this would go down very well with the small but vocal core audience.

Pretty sure most people pronounce Demon's Souls to sound like "Demon Souls", even though it's Demon's, because it's easier to say and still does sound like Demon's Souls
