I was so pumped when I noticed Steam downloading an update for it. Checked their official Twitter right away to check. MY only issue I have with the acts taking so long to come out is I pretty much forget 99% of what I experienced in the previous ones. When Act 2 came out I replayed Act 1 first. Now Act 3 is out I need to replay Act 1 and 2 to jog my memory.
The update reminded me of owning this game, only played a bit of Act I ages ago when I snatched it on sale. Not sure at this point whether I want to dive in or wait.
I know one thing though: between this, Telltale's bullshit and The Dream Machine I'm never going to buy another episodic game early again.
Anyone know if the next acts are going to take just as long to come out as this one did? I really want to get the game but I think I would rather wait till they're all out if they're all going to take this long to be released.
I don't remember which one it was, but keep switching the radio station and drive around for a bit. You'll get dialogue on whether it's the right station or not, eventually you'll hit the right one, drive around some more and you'll get to the Zero.
Without getting into any spoilery detail, Act III is *significantly* more involved than the first two acts. We knew this coming into it, based on our narrative outline of the game. There are also components of it that grew in scale beyond our expectation, but we feel they’re worth the time and effort.
Because then i have a punishment in the alternate way: i have to wait for the rest of the episodes! I have chosen the punishment that seems less painful to me, 'cause at least I can have an uninterrupted game story experience... but man, it looks great so far. I can't wait
So far I am utterly shocked and in awe. This game never, ever disappoints. There's one early scene that is just fucking, so damn cool. I love everything about this game; its approach is so fresh.
Must say I loved the bar scene, although it's been so long since the last 2 acts that I feel I need to replay them to understand what is going on - there are many characters who I don't even remember.
This has been #1 on my Steam wishlist for ages. I should just buy it. Wanted to wait until all 5 acts were out, but I think I might be dead by the time that happens.
the bar scene. It reminded me of the scene from twin peaks of the girl signing in the biker bar. the song was really beautiful and I wonder if that is what they drew inspiration from. anyone else get that twin peaks vibe from that scene?
I'm really enjoying episodic gaming these days. I like getting a little taste of an experience I enjoy every few months (or longer, but that's still ok). It's a nice little pleasant surprise to come home to, something to look forward to for the weekend.
I thought I'd do Act 3 all in one sitting last night, but I got up to
Scene X
, and I just had to hit the hay. How much longer is this episode? I don't remember the previous episodes having anywhere near this many scenes, though a lot of these are admittedly shorter than any scenes in the previous Act's. I have a feeling I don't have much more left to go, but yeah, this game is really insane, and love it.

I dunno, I still like experiencing it piece-by-piece. Maybe my memory is better than average, but I have no problem going into the next episode after a long break.

Those of you who haven't also played through the side episode The Entertainment should do so as there are a bunch of neat tie-ins between that episode and the latest act.

People should also play Limits and Demonstrations, which was published right after act I, but references events in act III. I really think they should bundle these up with the main game, so people don't miss them.

I felt like there were a few Twin Peaks references in there, including "Harry, you're alright.".
Really loved how active this episode was. Less mini text adventure bits on the road but more physical locations to run around in and some breathtakingly set up shots as always. It took them almost a year to get this out but something about how excellent every episode has been just... makes it ok.
It's a magical experience. Too Late To Love You is gonna rank up there in my favorite scenes in a game.
Also of note in the bar was the
Oculus Rift reference at the table set up like the one you sat at in The Entertainment.
The art style is the most immediately striking thing about KZ0 but it's not its only strong aspect. The writing in particular is uniformly excellent and a leap above what you typically find in video games, and the game's meditative tone is also a rarity in the medium.
Funny you mention or ask this. I emailed Cardboard Computer and they said they'd be delighted to have this title on PS4, as its something I've been wanting for a bit as well lol. I guess I should try contacting Gio Corsi and/or Adam Boyes but I'm not confident at all they'd even see the message.....sigh.
This -might- be my favorite act yet, not sure. Gotta spend a bit of time thinking about it. Either way, absolutely astounding stuff. I really like Junebug and Johnny.
Experiencing some bugs during act III. Just after the
computer part
, I'm supposed to head back at the truck. But at some point my character (Shannon) just stops moving and I can't move anymore. No icons, nothing. Once I managed to get out of the
cave
but she froze when I clicked the truck. Now I can't even get out anymore.

I'm the same. Can't handle cliffhanging. One week between TV episodes is one thing, but months or years between shortish "episodes" is a different beast to handle.
Did the same with Walking Dead S1. Doing the same with S2. And waiting for this Kentucky thing to be complete. Hope their release waiting periods aren't exponential. Seems like a nice surreal escape for an evening or two.

I'm usually the same, but considering the breadth of the project, and what they did with the time between II and III, I really can't complain at all. These devs have their inspirations and influences on lock; they know what they want to do, how to say it, and how to make it so that I can't berate them for taking their time. I can get lost in it, and when all episodes are out, I will go through it all again to experience it differently, I'm sure. That's just how it's written. It really feels like a dynamic narrative.

I concur. It's not like The Walking Dead, where you get to a cliffhanger and have to wait for several months to see it resolved. There are no real cliffhangers in KR0 and the story itself does not have such a prominent role: it's more about the overall experience, little details and such.
What the hell, how did this slip me by? I don't remember Steam ever downloading the new Act so I just found out about this today from random curiosity, checking to see when it was coming out. I'll definitely be diving into this tonight, I have a huge grin on my face right now, so excited!
Completed Act III and wow... this game is getting more surreal per act, I absolutely love it. I have a question though.
At one point there's a text based assistant recruiting minigame, to generate mold for Xanadu. Is this something you can actually beat?
I quit the computer and the story just moved on, don't know if there's an other outcome here.
I'll have to find some articles that talk about this act in detail. Content and speculation-wise, this felt like 2 acts in 1.
It's going to be glorious playing through this entire thing once all episodes are out. The complete KR 0 is shaping up to be something very special.
btw anyone else get a strong Beach House vibe off Too Late To Love You? Anyway, if you liked that song and don't know Beach House... check out Teen Dream and Bloom
I played through what's out over the past few days, and I'm frustrated because I'm someone who usually really loves games like this but I feel like I don't "get" this game at all. The art is beautiful, the music's good, and line-by-line the writing is great... but it constantly doesn't come together in a way that works. It frequently feels tedious just for the sake of being so
(limping around the museum while the camera slowly turns to reveal places you might be able to actually walk to and interact with being a huge example, as is traversing the Zero after a while)
, and whenever they nail the atmosphere in a way that feels creepy and/or interesting they ruin it by making that tedious as well
(like Xanadu after a point)
or making it abundantly clear that they're just holding back information rather than letting you be afraid of the unknown. It's clear to me that the developers are extremely talented, but I just wish they actually did something with that. It feels like style over substance, and though the style is frequently amazing and the substance is at the very least well written, it's also almost always extremely dry and overly drawn-out enough to ruin the feelings that the style got from me. Each Act I was hoping that they'd lean into the bizarre things that happen and actually build up some atmosphere, that they'd really force you to feel that something was wrong, only to be let down more and more every time they decided to turn something from shocking and scary to practically boring,
the factory being a huge example of this
. Is it just that the point of the game is to normalize extremely weird things to the point where they seem like just an ordinarily dull part of everyday life? Because that's definitely a very interesting approach, but it doesn't exactly make for a very interesting experience.
I've honestly enjoyed the intermissions more than the proper Acts, because the first handled the bizarre atmosphere extremely well and the second managed to mimic "tedious" without actually feeling that way (which is what I assume the actual game is aiming for)
and the twist near the end was handled way better than in Act III precisely because it was so sudden and not over-explained
. I'm confused as to why they're not integrated into the game
especially as they reference dialogue you could have not chosen during Xanadu, and that sticks out as what they're doing with the dialogue choices you make is one of the most interesting parts of the game for me
.
I'm going to keep playing it as the last two parts (and presumably intermissions) get released, as despite all this it's not like I think it's a bad game at all! I'm just let down that I'm not enjoying it as much as everyone else seems to be, because I really wanted to love it. I guess it's just a matter of wanting different things from it, in the end.
