New Power Rangers Movie Coming from Lionsgate

Didn't someone on here ask for this only a week or so ago?
 
Man Power Rangers was the bee's knees back in the day. My grandma even made me and my brother our own suits when we were little. I might be convinced to see a new movie just for old times sake.
 
With how horribly Saban has been botching Megaforce/Super Megaforce, I have no faith in this being anything but awful. Unless you keep literally everyone involved in the TV show far, far away from it. And even then.
 
Leaked plot - the evil witch sends down some foot soldiers to cause trouble in the park / juice bar. The Power Rangers fight them off. Then she sends down a monster and they have to change into their costumes to fight it. Then it turns giant and they have to summon Megazord. The end.

A cursory glance at netflix would suggest they're popular enough for new series to be pumped out. Nevertheless, it couldn't hurt to look at Power Rangers from the ground up and try tobring it back to MMPR levels of popularity.

And being a reboot of the original series would get some nostalgic kids

As long as the budget isn't too large, could do well for em

The pdf says that they are doing this in partership with Saban, so I don't think this will be a "new universe" or anything like that.

They need to use the original Power Rangers. Jason David Frank or GTFO.

JDF has basically gone completely insane in recent years. He's basically the PR fandom's version of Charlie Sheen.

It has potential. Smart of them to stick with a reboot of the original show too and none of the modern crap. That way they can hit nostalgia factor and make the old show new again for a new generation.

Amy Jo is the only one who even remotely still looks like her old self

They been doing this since they got the rights back, and it has been terrible.

Agreed. If they tone down the cheese a bit, make actual characters out of the teens, and get some really good fight choreography, it could be a pretty awesome movie.

WE'RE GOING TO TALK IN EVERY FIGHT SCENE AND BE REALLY ANNOYING!
We're also not going to explain anything and create mountains of plot holes that are unacceptable in 2014!
We're also going to morph into past costumes that weren't featured in Power Rangers because we don't fucking care!

To those who don't get the last one, the gimmick of the recent season involves morphing into past rangers. Somehow that includes Sentai-only rangers. They also look like pirates but don't expect them to explain why (or explain anything really).

JDF would be the only one to agree either way. Austin St. John is a paramedic, David Yost & Amy Jo Johnson want nothing to do with Power Rangers (the former's tale is actually kind of fucked up), and Thuy Trang is dead. Not sure about Walter Emanuel Jones...

The show has kinda always been terrible. Older fans have nostalgia for having watched it when they were young. I think the new seasons aren't that much more crapier than the originals. Our expectations have grown bigger because we're not 8 anymore.

Sure, but I think it would be more reasonable to expect Zeo's cast. Johnny Young Bosch, Catherine Sutherland and Steve Cardenas. And of course, Paul Schrier and Jason Narvy. :)
 
If they're going for a marvel sort of deal more power to em. Cast new people though.

Whatever they do leave Jesus never tapped sey iyaaaaa out of it.

Neat, part of me thinks it is a bit silly, but that part of me that watched the show as a child hopes it will be awesome. If they bring back Dinozords too with some sweet toys, I would totally stick them on the shelf next to my original Dinozord toys.

Well its a reimagining of MMPR from the announcement, so hopefully Dinozords, which in my opinion were easily the best Zords. I imagine they would probably give them all a makeover on the lines of the Transformers in the recent films, so very mechy with lots of random bits and bobs that move and shift around. Then go all Pacific Rim for the Megazord transformation.
 
I've been waiting for this to happen for awhile now since the Transformers films were so popular. Hopefully it turns out well.

We'll compromise. JDF can do the movie if he stays the fuck away from Dino Charge.

... Actually, why can't this movie be based on Kyoryuger/Dino Charge? Why fall back on MMPR? Make this a fresh start to reinvigorate the franchise. From what I'm hearing, the toy sales have not been good.

Because they don't want kid dollars from this film. They want a piece of the Avengers/Batman adult fan money. And going with Dino Charge ain't gonna get them that.
 
Hmm. This is not a good idea. I've been trying to watch MegaForce/Super Megaforce and if the teams behind that are the ones handling this then no thanks. It's been such a damn chore. They shouldn't even bother. Had this been announced around the time Dino Thunder, SPD, Ninja Storm, etc then I would feel a lot differently about this. Those shows ended up being pretty good by just regular show standards from the stories to the actual acting. So much so that I started watching again after years of not bothering with the franchise. Saban re-entering the picture however caused a massive nose dive in quality for the franchise.

It's a show for kids but that is no excuse for what is on screen in Super Megaforce and the horrific acting on it. I see exponentially better acting on live action shows/segments on channels like Disney JR or the Sprout channel. The actors there are genuinely talented. I don't understand how anyone could green light a Power Rangers film when Megaforce is airing and that's the first thing to look to in regards to what type of product you might be getting. It's not even that the originals were just as bad. They could be bad but no where near like this. A look at any random episode and comparing it with the current cast shows that.
 
Always wanted an absolutely absurd Michael Bay Power Rangers movie reboot. Hope this at least comes close to what I've imagined.

Real audience: Kids of the 90s now older & a lot more bitter.

Please, please let the leader/red have more personality than Plank from Ed, Edd, n Eddy.

They are far worse, at the originals had personalty. The new guys are bland as fuck.
