Sunset Overdrive website - say hello to Fizzie! (Insomniac/MS/XB1)

We visited Insomniac HQ in Burbank, California to be the first media in the world to play Sunset Overdrive as the studio explained how it intends to put the fun back into shooters – the game brings to mind Tony Hawk, Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Prince Of Persia and the blue skies and bright colours of the Dreamcast era.

You might have me at blue skies and Dreamcast. Been a fan of/playing Insomniac games since Spyro and Disruptor, but I too gotta echo the sentiment that they've really haven't done it for me as of late. Haven't played Fuse or Resistance 3 yet, but the last few Ratchet titles (which is a series I am/was a big fan of) have been super disappointing and forgettable. It would be cool if this Sunset game brings back what I liked about their games (there better be Skill Points!), but there's so little on the game right now that it's hard to pass any sort of judgment on it. Is this a focused single-player game, by the way? I know next to nothing about it aside from that teaser trailer they showed last E3.

Not really... but it's the first thing that crossed my mind.

Although we haven't seen a single screenshot yet, I can't shake the feeling that Insomniac are going to knock it out of the park with this one. It just seems like the kind of game they should be making.

really does amaze me how hard Insomniac screwed over it's fan base though. i mean we are talking about playstation owners over all these years....
I can't claim to be in the know, but if it's true about the IP issues then Sony kicked their fans in the teeth, not Insomniac.
but the kick in the teeth was how they so obviously pulled creative IP from that game they released last year ... i mean when that thing came out it was so generic .... yet the E3 debut of the game had it looking almost exactly like sunset overdrive ... i mean come on.
You mean when EA had them make it look mainstream, right?

I was about to post that. This sounds like a dream come true to be honest, can't wait to see what Edge has to say about it and finally see the game in action at E3.

Also Mizuguchi is back?
:O

At some point Insomniac and I will meet again on a platform I own....some day.

They might be working on another Ratchet and Clank, well if that movie is still on course. Ratchet and Clank PS4 would be pretty awesome. Imagine the exploding weapons, or the bouncer v20.3 and the nuts and bolts all over the place. Knack would hang his head in shame.

This thread is making me want an xbox one just for this game... Will probably wait until after E3 if I do get one.

Insomniac why did you have to go exclusive to a non Sony platform :(

I likes the sound of that.

It doesn't work quite like that. They have a project idea, various publishers come in to see it, and Microsoft signs it. Perhaps MS put the best offer on the table in terms of cash, development support, marketing etc. Also games tend to get 'noticed' a bit more when they're exclusive. They get free marketing in every fanboy argument :)

MS also let them keep their IP.

pretty fucking average. wonder if they regret jumping ship now.

All of this is wrong. Insomniac didn't "kick their fans in the teeth" and they didn't scrap anything from Fuse to make this game "better".

I'm still trying to figure out if this post is for real or not.

It definitely was. Not quite sure what has inspired all these guys to crawl out the woodwork in the last few days.

Although I expect more of those kind of posts once we begin to get some new info about the game later.

Posts like these are just....wow!

That blurb about JSR, Crazy Taxi, etc. makes this game sound so promising, can't wait for more info from Edge!

They're talking a great bunch of mess with all of the checkpoints that should tickle my soul (the Dreamcast is still connected to my HDTV, which should tell you how I regard that era of gaming), but Insomniac as a studio hasn't been knocking hits out of the park for quite some time. They're almost driving towards the verbage many Kickstarters use to get attention (A + B + C = Maybe D with a hint of Rogue).

I'd be cautiously optimistic at best.

Sounds genuinely fun. Really makes me wonder what they could have accomplished last gen if they weren't hamstrung by the Resistance franchise.

Bullshit, this is a Xbox v Playstation thing and you haven't got the balls to say it straight as you know you will be banned. If it was the other way around you would say fuck all. I'm getting sick of people like you on here.
