Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Remakes Announced for 3DS

Basically. Event he worst Pokémon game is still an amazing game. I never finished through Gen 4 myself, but I was a little burned out by then. I have fond memories of R/S/E since by that point the number of Pokémon hadn't spiraled completely out of control by then.

It does, however, make my romp through the remakes easier since going from Fire Red -> Soul Silver -> Sapphire would have felt like a step back...

The Battle Frontier in Hoenn was the best post game I could ever ask for. The Battle Frontier in Platinum/HGSS was good too, but not as good as the one in Hoenn.

I still like Gen 1 quite a lot, maybe it is my nostalgia talking. Gen 2, though... It baffles me that some people think it was the best generation.

Gen 2 had problems but the things they did right, compensated for a lot of the faults. The problem with Gen 3 is that people were just looking at the faults of a series that was seemingly not only stagnating but going in reverse mode.

Nope, the closest we've ever had to that happening is when a Pokemon had to be changed for "reasons", like Jynx or when they updated a design to match the anime, like Pikachu. They've never changed a design like this before.

My 10 year old self was somewhat disappointed with Ruby and Sapphire when they first came out, mainly as a result of so many pokemon at the time not being available (including lots of my favourites like Tyranitar), the lack of battle entry animations, no day/night cycle, no ability to trade with gens 1 and 2, etc. At the time, I wasn't a huge fan of many of the pokemon designs as well, I actively disliked Blaziken's.

Looking back, I see the game a lot more favourably. The lack of connections between gens 1 and 2 with 3 was needed for the substantial overhaul of IVs that took place. It later became possible to get all Kanto and Johto pokemon via LG and FR, events, Colosseum and XD. The music was superb as well. Even the pokemon designs have grown on me a lot, even Blaziken.
 
Also surprised at the happiness, R/S/E was a letdown. Hated all the areas with constant weather effects because it takes forever in battles.

Of course I'm still buying it though. 3DS is gonna sell like crazy with this and Smash this year.
 
I was wondering why Ruby and Sapphire was trending, guess this is why. This was out of nowhere. Can't tell if I'm excited or not, because I remember not beating Sapphire (did finish Emerald though). Also, gen 3 was my most disliked gen.

Regardless, I'll have to see the changes first before getting interested. I was bummed by Pokemon X, so I'm skeptical about this one.
 
I had no idea how much love people had for generation 3. Thinking about it, it might be my second favorite. There were parts I disliked but I loved secret bases, underground, competitions (I think the most I had on one pokemon might have been 22), and Swampert!

You could say the same about the positives about Gen 3. ...Then the same about Gen IV because it also took a lot away.

Uh? It's calling breeding with a 6IV god ditto, and XY already streamlined the systems to make breeding and training ridiculously simple and less time consuming.

Alpha and Omega makes more sense if you're talking about gen 4 and Diamond/Pearl/Platinum's legendaries. Or at least with Arceus it does.

I don't know, its probably a new story because Ruby and Sapphire was about environmental changes.

Well, to me at least, nothing in GSC compensated for the underdeveloped new region and the lackluster Pokemon designs. Plus, the music was so boring compared to the Gen 1 music. The problems with Generation 3 didn't bother me that much, EXCEPT for the boring Gym Leaders. For some reason, most of them weren't memorable as Gen 1 and 2 Gym Leaders. But stuff like too many water routes? Use repel, problem solved. Most of the older Pokémon not present in the games? No problem, I could always play RB/GSC if I want to play with the older Pokémon. Bad music? I can't take people who say Hoenn had bad music seriously. Etc. The things Gen 3 did right made me love the region and if it wasn't for Gen 3, I probably would have stopped playing Pokémon (until the release of Platinum, of course).

A and Omega makes sense when you realize that the 3rd gen's trio is based on Hebrew myth.
 
Well, duh. That it's so soon, however, is a surprise! I wonder what neat things they'll come up with to put in this game that'll never be used beyond the remake.
I wish froakie could've followed me around, Nintendo. :(
 
Hoenn is far from the worst generation. Just look at what it brought to the series.

Abilities. The biggest game changer, arguably bigger than the physical/special split.

The best Waifu pokemon

Based Steven.

The best Starter Trio. All of them well-designed and competitively viable.

It was the first game to have fleshed-out side activities.

A challenging post game via Battle Factory.

I'm actually forgiving on GSC Gen 2, but absolutely think HGSS is a disappointment as far as remake goes. Better than FRLG but still disappointing.

This. Gen VI breeding makes it very easy to get perfect IVs.

I think it's as much as Heart and Soul were for Gold and Silver. I guess since Alpha is often known as the beginning and rain is often considered the beginning of many things. Omega is often considered the end and Groudon creates volcanoes implying a theme of Apocalyspe

So only a slight color and shape change. Yeah, this isn't just an updated design. This adds much more features to them.

I don't recall there being any...XY were a blur to me so I'm not 100% sure :/
 
Back in the day not having day and night cycle in the game really bothered me...

Also no going back to other regions after the game was done made it feel rather barren.

The designs were also drastically different from gen one and two

I dunno to me personally it was the most disappointing gen of Pokemon

Basically this. In the context of the series the games fare far more favourably now than they did when they released. They were the first to introduce brand new region with no ties to the past ones (which many expected after GSC) and made an absolute ton of Pokemon unavailable. For a long time only half of Pokemon (202/386) were available in-game, many of them fan favourites.

Now we are more used to that and all Pokemon are readily available or transferable so that doesn't seem like that much of a deal, but it was a huge source of displeasement among the fans. Especially since this was before online came to Pokemon so the only ways to get missing Pokemon required a lot more cash investment than before (you needed RuSa, FRLG, and Colosseum/XD for remaining Johto Pokemon). A lot of Gen III problems were simply alleviated by time (not all though, e.g. gutting day/night system and no moving sprites after Crystal felt off).

Yeah, I thought they would fix the problems in GSC with the remakes, but in the end they didn't.

That is why I have no hopes of Game Freak fixing some of the annoying stuff from RSE. I am just hyping 3D Hoenn, the remixed music and hopefully more mega evolutions.

Oh right, that does make sense. I think I read on Bulbapedia what Groudon and Kyogre were based on.

Edit: yeah Behemoth and Leviathan. Oh thanks for remind me of that. It completely went over my head.
